    Very cool to see you activating from my neck of the woods, I hope you all had a great trip. If you hike to the top, Mt. Livermore, you can get a POTA/SOTA 2-fer. Fun fact, I’ve worked Slovenia with 5 watts SSB on 20 meters from the top of Angel Island!

    I remember that day! I'm located about 50 miles North of there in Sonoma County, and I saw your call sign come up on the POTA spot list for Angel Island - so I kept checking back on the frequency over a couple of hours - but I never heard you at all! Wondering if perhaps I was just too far for ground wave and too close for skip propagation...? But perhaps I was just listening while you were making adjustments / working through the conditions. Sorry it was so challenging, I would have thought that would be a good spot for POTA contacts - but maybe you were over some old metal as you were thinking. Fairly new ham here, I always learn something from your videos - keep them coming! :)

    I would love to try this with a Buddy Stick Pro Tripod and legs. I'm currently doing the same thing with my Wolf River Coils mini and the combination is awesome and a lot easier to tune than their standard coil.

    I found it interesting that Chameleon used a shorter whip for this antenna. I have a SuperAntenna and I bought the Chameleon 17ft whip to use with it thinking more metal in the air is better.

    Wolf River 17' whip, the sporty 40 coil and their small tripod base has been a killer SOTA setup. Make a bypass link to take the coil in and out and with an FT-891 I'm getting great results.

    How about a show about this remote ham radio thing. Id love to be able to use it to round out some contacts that I can never seem to get (AK,HI)

    • @EdwardGriffin
      @EdwardGriffin ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the DXCC award, a remote contact from any continental US station with an AK or HI station will count as a new entity for you. For the WAS award, all states must be worked from stations that are within a 50 mile distance. If you want to mix the ones you worked from home with some from a remote for credit, you'd need to use a remote that was within 50 miles of your home. You could also work all 50 from the same remote, or group of remote stations that were no farther apart than 50 miles. Ignoring contests and awards, for some of us it's just nice to be able to get on the air in a minute without having to go outside and put up an antenna.
