  • Hinata Shoyo is a character that is dear to my heart, and his journey across Haikyuu's 402 chapters is nothing short of inspiring. In this video, I wanted to talk about my favorite training arc in the series, the training arc that transformed Hinata into a monster capable of challenging the world. Hope you guys enjoy!

Hinata meeting Oikawa randomly at the beaches of Rio must have felt like a godsent to him. Meeting another person who has shared the same shortcomings as him, going to a new country and adapting to a new lifestyle, new language, must have felt like a relief to him. As if his arrival was a message "This isn't a mistake after all.". Oikawa really was the turning point of Hinata's volleyball career.

i think that hinata getting sick during nationals was the perfect end for the nationals arc. haikyuu at the core is very realistic. they seem like their stamina is endless and they'll never stop moving, but in haikyuu, they fall a lot. just like normal people do, because we are human. and humans are not invincible. and the reason they stated that nationals was harsh was because they play long matches for a week without a break. and that can really wear a person down, if not their spirits, then their immune system.
and i love that there has always been this emphasis in haikyuu that this sport isn't just the sport. this isn't just volleyball. it's training, building muscle, dieting correctly, getting sleep in, and taking care of yourself. and i think since this is an anime, i didn't expect them to touch on this bc it's the more mundane parts of being an athlete. but oh so very, very, VERY important.
and when hinata grows up, he takes this advice to heart. he takes care of himself mentally and physically. making sure he doesn't get sick, never loses motivation for too long, and keep his head up. and he does it all by himself. like he genuinely felt like a grown man and he didn't feel like the little boy who only wanted to jump when the series started.
and i can't even emphasize how surprised i was that it was so natural to see him mature. like he's still a silly guy, but you could tell he was a man. and it's so weird bc he was just a kid a couple chapters ago, and yet i can only see him as the adult he became. he's made that smooth transition from a child to an adult in a way that i think a lot of other animes haven't done well for their time skips.
i know that when this arc initially started people were skeptical bc it seemed that haikyuu was always going to end at nationals, but to me, i think that the time skip was the best ending for haikyuu. because haikyuu was always about volleyball, and not just highschool volleyball. unlike other sports animes, haikyuu has always never just been about the sport strictly in high school. because this was furudate's ode to volleyball itself, because he himself was a volleyball player. so this was never going to just end at high school

Some people hate the Kamomedai match for its outcome; but as time passes I grow increasingly convinced that it was brilliant for how brutally realistic it was. I'm still in awe that Furudate had his heroes eliminated in the quarter finals by a relatively unknown (to readers!) team, and even more in awe that his editors let him. Harsh, I know you've considered doing a video on this match, and I hope you're still considering it. It deserves one.

    • @MrChannelforwatching
      @MrChannelforwatching ปีที่แล้ว +210

Something that always gets me when I think about it is that in Nationals, every team we've come to know gets knocked out. Nekoma gets knocked out in the third round, Karasuno and Itachiyama lose in the quarterfinals, Kamomedai loses in the semi's and Fukurodani ends up losing at the finals. The team that ends up winning nationals is a completely unknown team to the readers. Their team is never mentioned throughout the story, nor are their players. Yet they managed to make it to the very end, and achieve what every character here only dreams of.
The fact that this happens ALWAYS takes me back to the Winners and Losers episode in S1, where Daichi's middle school friend says "If this were a work of fiction, the losing team would be the side characters and the people going to nationals would be the protagonists." Which was ironic because for that specific episode, they were the protagonists. It further carries that sentiment that 'we are the protagonists in our own life'. Everyone has their story to tell, even the unnamed background characters. I absolutely love how the winners to nationals is a nameless team with nameless players, mainly because it shows that the winners don't have to be big, known, longstanding champions, but humble, nameless people that worked their way to the top on their own. We just didn’t see it.
It's also incredibly inspiring to see the characters we love lose, and realise that losing doesn't mean the end. It's just another part of life that everyone must experience and get through. I loved the happy, idealistic ending Kuroko no Basuke had, but I absolutely adore Haikyuu's ending and the growth the characters went though, even if it wasn't what I was expecting at all.

@@dansteuer1411 And what I love about Haikyuu is that the reason they never want to lose is because if they lose, they’ll have to stop playing. And they never want to stop, because they really, REALLY love volleyball. It’s so inspiring to see such passionate people play not just because they want to win, but because they genuinely love playing this sport. It’s amazing how Furudate was able to show his passion and love for this sport, and he managed to make millions of people worldwide understand. It’s absolutely heartwarming.

It was heartbreaking seeing Hinata leaving the court. His first year where he was finally able to play with a team and improve himself, but was stopped by a fever. But revisiting the scene again, I find that it makes sense.
One of the many themes in Haikyuu is self-care and taking life one step at a time. We saw that with Kita when going through his backstory. He reminded Miya when he had a cold to take care of himself and how results are not everything. And now we see it here. Hinata felt like he could still play despite his fever, but like you said, life doesn't work out that way, and he can't just push through it. He needs to rest, give himself a chance to breathe, and try again. And I feel like there's some sort of beauty to that; that even if you do fail, what matters is what you're going to do tomorrow.

    When u read the manga
U notice that it wasnt just bad luck
Hinata didnt sleep neither eat days before the match. He was so focus and it became a bad habit . Nobody notice it, everyone knews that they did wrong, but hinata dont. Not until his couch told him that he should learn about this lose. Not just as a failure in volleyball, but as a life leasson . Maybe thats why hinata realized that he lost because he wasnt really prepared in soul and body. He can love as much as he wants volleyball. But only those prepared are the ones standing. All this training and self realization arc was indeed beautiful. It shows how much u should take care on urself as a person . And not leave ur priorities to take control over ur health. Love ur body as the same way u love ur passion.

Haikyu is easily the best "relatable" piece of creation I have come across. It's easy to put myself in any of the character's (not just one or two) shoes in this story than anywhere else. It is so grounded, so amazing that it's pretty insane that such a story exists but isn't as hyped as some of the greatest ones out there like Attack on Titan. I mean, sure, Haikyu has a lot of hype around it, too. And, sure Attack on Titan deserves to have a LOT of hype, but I feel the distance between hype between these two stories are a lot than what I personally want it to be. Both stories are different, and incomparable, sure, but -- anyway, I went on a tangent.
While I can appreciate great stories, only a few manage to make my emotions and inner core get stir up, Haikyu is up there right after Attack on Titan. Such a great creation.

this, in my opinion, is the best and more important arc of the series. It asks a question that many anime similar to this one don’t ask: “What now?”
The series easily could’ve ended at the tournament lose, flashing forward to the final arc where everyone has improved drastically and are playing in the ultimate match. Or, they could’ve kept the series going, following the freshmen through their years. However, they chose to include a risky play: the aftermath of it all.
My favorite part is that one little flash of their graduation. Hinata obviously still remembered that first year lose, most likely wore it on his shoulder throughout his high school career, and let it drive him to go far and wide to improve himself. He refused to let anything stop him again, even himself.

Especially when you said that there are some bad days that occur, but imagining of putting a smile on peoples face would all pay off after you’ve achieved what you want to achieve. Moving to a new country can be so new. I understand Hinata. It can be scary, confusing, sad, but HOW you spend your days there improves how you get around. This is my favourite arc of the whole series. I've read and re read it as many times as I could. So when I saw this new upload by you in my feed, there was no hesitation in hitting play. This was a refreshing reminder of why I love this arc so much. I'm in my own final stage of preparing for an exam, and this video is a huge reminder of how even the best players of any game or sphere of life have a tumultuous road behind them that they crossed to get where they wish to be. So, thank you!

11:15 It hits hard re reading those panels. I moved into college this school year and for the first few weeks it felt like nothing was going my way. I was failing quizzes and exams left and right. I kept forgetting stuff like my computer, wallet, keys, etc.. I lost my phone on a bus and had to walk to several places just to call people on the bus. I almost cried that was my low point. Still managed to get my phone back somehow, I started to ace quizzes, and pass my exams. Don’t give up!

This arc is probably the reason why I have read the chapters from the kamomedai match and after, at least 5 times. The groundedness that this arc expresses, the real struggle of having a completely new beginning, starting again from scratch to fly higher than anyone else, it's so fascinating in so many ways. To Wake up and see a new video from you, ready to accompany my breakfast and give me something that I have forgotten, rather it's a perspective, a way of thinking, or some appreciation for this amazing kind of art that comes by the name of manga/anime, it's something else. I have also just moved to another country and I can relate a lot to the thing that you mention in the video. I don't know where you live but it would be awesome to have a coffee and a conversation with you, but until that time comes I will be in the rainbase (just joined). Keep up the good work and find new ways to be hungry, have difficulties that you love to surpass, and mostly be healthy! 🤟🏾

It really sucks that we aren’t getting a season 6 and only 2 movies, I’m not sure how they’re going to cover everything that has happened in the manga in to 2 movies. I know it’s going to be rushed, but some part of me hopes that they will still capture all of the emotions in this arc in the movies as best as they can.

Thank you for taking the time in fleshing out the BRAZIL ARC... for me that arc of Hinata was very heartfelt and rewarding. .. We saw another side of Hinata that we don't normally do. His drive and passion are infectious. The way he pulled himself together in a different country, with no one to lean on. You mentioned that you are also starting a new chapter in your life and I wish you all the best. We are grateful for all your efforts and videos.

I was having a bad day today myself, and this video happened to pop up on my recommended. It's been a while since I watched any Haikyuu content, but I ended up clicking on this video anyway out of pure curiosity. I was so happy I did, hearing you talk about Hinata curling up in a ball in his room, struggling with his environment at that moment made me tear up. You managed to remind me just exactly what I love about Haikyuu. The optimism, the hope, the determination - Haikyuu is always so inspiring to me and makes me want to give it my all in whatever I'm doing. I suddenly feel rejuvinated after watching your video. Thank you so much for making this. Keep up the good work!!

I've red this last 2020, and I just have the feeling that I need to read these panels again because I'm loosing so much of my motivation in my work career. I'm so invested with Hinata's viewpoint of how you can be strong despite of all the uncontrolled hardships that's coming your way, I can't help but cry most of the time because of it, but seeing it again makes me want to pursue my career as an Architect here in PH more. Thank you Harsh Review! you Narrate it so well! even the smallest details the creator made! I hope everyone will see and be inspired how Hinata overcame all these hardships he dwell for years! Haikyuu is the best!
