Magic, just Magic 😍 I was suprised to see that purple showing up only at the end of the bottom row 🤗 So many shades are possible, it would be fun to go on till you are on the complete side of the mixed color 😊 I love this 😍 Thank you for doing this 🙏
This was very helpful. I know a little about colouring mixing - but this is a great example of the variations you can get with just 3 primary colours. Thank you for sharing.
Great exercise to try I struggle with getting the right concentration of paint , yours look smooth and creamy any tips would be helpful thanks so much lovely work glad I found you🙂
I was expecting a purple at the end but was surprised to see the lovely colour that it turned out to be !! Thank you Harriet some more inspiration for us
Thanks Amanda. Yes it would vary depending on the tones in your red and blue but cadmium red has no pink tones, if anything it has a more orange feel so it would bring out a very warm burgundy rather than cool purple
This is a great demonstration of colour mixing. Would you get different colours and values if you started with the second colour first. For example starting with the Cobalt Blue and slowly adding the Cadmium Red.
Yes. But the big thing with watercolour is introducing the stronger colour into the lighter one. It doesn’t work as effectively putting yellow into blue for example
Hi Harriet, thank you for a great video. Could you please give me some advice on the right watercolour paints to buy. I’m a beginner and not sure if I should go for the Cotman/Aquafine range or the Artist/Professional range. Also I don’t know if I should go for the 5ml tubes or the half pans. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
I always recommend buying the best quality you can afford as the artist/professional quality ones will last you longer. I use both tubes and pans and enjoy both.
It might be your screen? It looks red from here. Also there is a cadmium orange in my palette next to the red so you can see what orange looks like on this screen
Fascinating as a photographer I feel I should know more about colour. Illuminating.
No worries, I’m always learning too!

That blue looks more like Cerulean Blue than Cobalt Blue Deep.
Strange how red plus blue equals brown on this.
I don’t see brown. I see plum and burgundy
It is more likely my weird vision. I have MS.
Is it just me and my weird vision or is cadmium red actually orange?

I supposed these paints should be more translucent.
different brands are going to have different opacity.
