When I was learning to paint minis I got in the habit of doing eyes first, big sloppy whites, then Bring in a sharp edge with a black, color the iris, dot the pupil and any reflects, then bring the skin tones down to the edges leaving a sliver of black out line. Doing it first let me measure up and paint over it until it was right without messing up the face. I also found it easier to accurately paint the outsides (eyelids) in to the eye then the inside of the eye out to the eyelids

Definitely a strategy. I don’t like doing them until I have a set flesh tone decided.
The white dot just made this look so real.
@@Guaisaguey it definitely helps if you have the room
Amazing watching the detail come to life.
@@Guaisaguey amazing hearing about you watching the details come to life.
Awesome. I’m a little intimidated. But I will be trying in the future.
This was a awesome way to show this ! Thank you Curtis!
@@mjstaten thanks. I was going to just paint a head but I don’t think that would make for good viewing.
Hell yeah. Let’s goooooo
@@Guaisaguey we going
Great tips man. Definitely going to remember this for the next time I try eyes.
@@thechozenonetwelve that’s awesome!
Really like the way you broke this down!
@@collectiblefun241 thanks!!
Thanks for the tips! I think alot of us get so worked up over this that we just don't even try.
@@hankfrankshaw once you realize you can mess up to the outside and fix it after it becomes a bit easier but a lot of it is just practice
I think I can manage drawing eyes in a paper, Curtis!. It's the tiny small eyes in 1/12 customs that are very hard for me 😂 Look forward for part 2 💚
@@enderackham same principle just get a magnifier and small brushes and practice. Once you know the steps it’s not too difficult
@ thanks so much. I'm really enjoying your channel. Feels like a 1:1 session and your teaching skills work very well for me. Keep it up!
@ it’s my pleasure
Thank you Curtis! Are there any circumstances where it would make sense to paint they eyes first on a sculpt, before anything else?
@@PuertoGeekan you definitely can. I just worry about getting other paint in them when dry brushing other areas.
Show me those eyes 👀
@@KENTPOOLCollects you got it

@@Art_by_Akerman awesome. Looking forward to it. I found a vampire and goblin head that I’ll be experimenting on.
