Using EPROM Images without EPROMS - on the Microprofessor MPF-1 with PicoRAM 6116

  • The U7 socket on the Microprofessor MPF-1 is usually occupied by a 2716 EPROM containing user programs (or Tiny BASIC). However, by cutting a few PCB traces and setting the J1 jumper accordingly, it can also accommodate an additional 2 KBs of memory, using a 2nd 6116 SRAM. Hence, PicoRAM 6116 can be used instead of a standard 2716 user EPROM in U7. I got a couple of programs in a 2716 EPROM BIN image from the user DISCMIX on the German Classic Computing (Vintage Computer) Forum. In this video we are running his programs via PicoRAM 6116, and I also demonstrate how to convert EPROM BIN images such as the ones I got from DISCMIX into a PicoRAM digestible HEX format.

You might look for the E&L Industries "The Fox" MT-80Z trainers as well. They are a MPF-1 trainer (the early units came with the Multitech symbols and stickers) in a better (but much larger) case, with a second Z-80 trainer board as well. The keyboard layout is a bit different.
The -AZ model of the MT-80Z trainer is a different board from the MPF-1 (both the MPF-1 main board and the "daughterboard" are combined as one board in the -AZ model).

@MrWaalkman love to find one of these for myself too, they are really nice. But even a rarer find I suppose...

@@michaelwessel4953 I hesitate to mention this, but on April 19th, 2024 six of them came up for sale on an eBay auction starting at $60 USD each. I quickly emailed everyone I knew who would be interested in a MT-80Z to the upcoming auctions, and one of my friends got one for $86 USD.
You and I started corresponding about a week later. Otherwise you would have been included too. Sorry.
I "Sat on my hands" and didn't bid on any since I already have three of them (that, and I couldn't bear the thought of bidding against a friend).
