At least 16,000 people died in the March 2011 tsunami that hit Japan, and it is for these lost souls that Nobuyuki Tsujii weeps. His composition is a simple, heartfelt memorial to this great tragedy. Mr. Tsujii is a prolific composer and first rate pianist; he embodies great love, sincerity, warmth and in my personal estimation was put here on earth to remind the rest of us of what it is to be human. He is a miracle if there ever was one.
Gosh, not sure I ever heard anything so passionately played on a piano. From the very first notes, he went deep into my soul with his playing. Yes, pure genius. Thank you Nobuyuki Tsujii for bringing such passion to others

He did not "burst into tears". That's completely untrue. He was weeping, but composed the entire time. He was born blind and learned to play piano by hear. Simply amazing.
Agreed that he didn't "burst into tears", in fact expressions like that are not that uncommon for people who were born blind. It doesn't mean they're crying while making that expression.
I had the privilege to see him in concert and meet him after his concert...The Japanese consulate were sitting right next to me in the audience...He is totally blind and has been since birth...Being a pianist (Ewaynea) myself, I was very touched with his performance...A very humbling man and great pianist... He won the Van Cliburn award, I forget what year...But that is a very prestigious award for pianists...
As a professional musician and someone who has played for over 50 years, attended Berklee for 2 years and studied every creative musical genius from Bach to Billie Eilish; this guy is beyond excellent. Excellent in his writing, his expression and his execution. He moved me to tears as well.
I have played the piano for 60+ years and I teach piano as well. I love original compositions and this one is beautiful. I would have thought he was thinking about a scene by the water - so calm and peaceful - but some of his chords express the tragedy he experienced. He may be longing for the way it was before the wave hit; for loss and suffering by his people; the key change is so good; well done young man. I am very proud of you.

@@Gabi-dt7jn It's an elegy with serious reflection as to what happened with the Tsunami.. It's a beautiful piece for a different scenario.. Nothing in this is boring.. unless you count your sorry ass life being unskillful and fucking boring.
You should see the comment section in any Epic Music vid... Audiomachine, TSFH, Jo Blankenburg, Mark Petrie etc... people write complete dystopian dissertations based and in pedantic emotion. Some of them are so emo, their lawns cut themselves.
Some of you just don't get it. Even though it isn't incredibly difficult composition it doesn't mean this piece was ordinary. This piano player can play anything you put in front of him but he created this piece in memory of a tragedy and not to awe an audience with a technical master piece. He put so much emotion into it and this was his motive. The timing, emotion, and feel are truly genius but these small yet significant facets of great piano playing are lost on those who simply would rather criticize what they do not understand.
+nv vam Perhaps I can bring this to a practical level: The Wedding March is a simple piece, and yet many brides and grooms have been so touched by the reason it is being played, they cry. Doesn't have to be complicated to have real meaning and feeling. This young gentleman has brought his heart and soul to this piece, and that is priceless!
+nv vam it's when the emotion is expressed in sounds, music and any kind of art ... that's when masterpieces like this get the chance to get to the surface :)
You know damn well when a music piece can make a grown ass man cry, just shows what music truly is. Great job Nobuyuki, you might not be able to see but you are able to move emotions, and that is what a true pianist should value and prioritize.
I just had the pleasure of hearing his music. I don’t know much about piano music, but I do understand passion I’m a hard rough around the edges kind of guy I work in the oil fields of West Texas and I’ve had nothing bring me to tears as fast as this.
There is harder work I work on the fields of a farm, we grow food, do weeding for many hours under the sun and harvest food, raise cattle and break wild horses. We work from sunrise to sunset, monday to monday and this since I was a child.
Nobuyuki Tsujii is born blind. He exhibited an exceptional prowess for music at an early age. At the age of two, he began to play "do re mi" on a toy piano after hearing his mother hum the tune. He began his formal piano study at the age of four. In 1995, at age seven, Tsujii won the first prize at the All Japan Music of Blind Students by the Tokyo Helen Keller Association. In 1998, at age ten, he debuted with the Century Orchestra, Osaka.
For me, this 5 minutes best captures what it's like to be human. All frivolous complexity is stripped away, and all that's left is pure beauty and raw emotion. Others may react differently, but I find this to be profoundly inspirational. The unstable, hate-filled world we've created needs to take 4 minutes and 52 seconds off from it's busy schedule and remind itself...... what's really important.
I've been telling my wife for 35 years that playing the piano isn't something I DO...... it's something I FEEL. I know there are those here that know EXACTLY to what it is that I am referring. And this man demonstrates that perfectly. IMHO that is.
That is a myth. Beethoven was not deaf when he composed. Only in later life his hearing got worse to almost none. That's when he wrote his worst pieces, by the way. So much for passion.
The human spirit is one of the most powerful and beautiful things in this world. Sometimes it manifests itself in music, sometimes in words, sometimes on a canvas. But always it comes from the heart.
Very Respectable person! I wish all people on this planet were like him. So pure ,simple and humble. Jealousy is ugly. Respect one another. May peace on earth!

@@judyreardon2344 This man is a fine pianist, and the fact that he is blind makes his talent all the more praiseworthy. However, what I find rather sickening , Judy, is the emotional hyperbole of so many comments. Talking about 'pain pouring out of his fingers', for instance, and another comment comparing this music with that of Chopin, are the signs of wallowing in emotion for emotion's sake. The tsunami was violent and killed many, and left multitudes without loved ones. But to compose a deliberately mushy piece of music, and read the comments of people who try to deliberately immerse themselves in manufactured pathos, are extremely distasteful. It's rather like the idiots who sang 'don't look back in anger' after the Manchester atrocity, when anger accompanied by retribution would have been the proper response. And let's face it, Judy, the music is pretty average when listened to as a piece of music without the added layer of crocodile tears.
@@williambunter3311 Very repetitive composition, I agree. But, I gotta give it to him for composing his own song and playing it so well. Ignore those who compare him to Chopin, but rather listen to what he has accomplished as a blind pianist.
SealMusic I agree on that about his repetitive creation, but in the same token none of us know his mental capacity. I am concerned in our society we are so quick to find fault before we ever consider what some people go thru just to create simplicity at its best. William we have become so cynical and hopefully with time we can become a kinder society again...😋
I was just scrolling through the comments before watching this. And right when it began and the like, climax of the song came, I saw a comment that said, I have 20/20 vision and he sees better than I do. I think the way he plays speaks volumes and is enough to show and to prove that he genuinely cares and sympathises. There is a touch of sadness and loss in every note of the melody he is playing. There also seems to be some hope. I feel it. It is not about tears, whether they are there, as visible, etc. People need no extra-prove to sense how genuine this pianist really is in what he is doing. And it is very, very rare. So genuine and deep. With much respect for this unique musician.
Yes, I also felt this. I put a sound list of piano plays to study and, believe-me, look for a job. And when I began to listen to this song, I could feel some peace, but some sadness and hope (felt this as confidence). This is incredible. I'm not a physician or studied medicine and I don't have any study in Music or so, but once a person lost one of its senses, the others try to compensate this loss and improve. Maybe due to being blind, he brilliantly developed the other senses
I do not play any musical instrument, sadly. But I have always had this huge inner capacity to heed and to observe. I can honestly say: when learning new languages the so-called hands-on/all-senses-engaged approach never really worked for me. I really did much better when focusing on the particular activity as one at a time. Even at churches: when I glance at the pulpit and see who is preaching, I end up grasping a zero-message from the sermon. Some people wonder why I never 'look up on to the stage', and they fail to understand the genuine, godly reason for doing that. I am not at all impolite, inattentive. On the contrary, I am ALL EARS. The Bible speaks about faith that comes by hearing, to hear the good news, to walk by faith and not by sight. Sadly, lots of places I have been to might have gotten this wrong impression about me. But hey, I might not know what suit the pastor was wearing ( Gucci, Armani), but at least I remember his message and the theme. All ears. Best sound is silence, of course. If it be the sound, let it be flawlessly delivered to the hungry ear. ( Someone sang "hungry eyes" in a Hollywood romantic movie......) Hungry ears are up to much more than that.
That music, played by that beautiful man has brought tears to my eyes. He truly has a wonderful gift, I didn't realise until the end that he is blind. I attended a performance in Hawaii, a blind man who played the piano, self taught pianist who, as a small child, used to lay under his bed and pluck the bed springs and make music. It was an amazing performance, watching his hands literally fly over those keys and not miss a single note.
Wow
That’s amazing. 😍
Absolutely fantastic piece of music. So heartfelt. True talent. Thank you for putting a smile on my face, after a hard day. God bless you.

At least 16,000 people died in the March 2011 tsunami that hit Japan, and it is for these lost souls that Nobuyuki Tsujii weeps. His composition is a simple, heartfelt memorial to this great tragedy.
+nv vam Nv vam: This was an excellent comment. You are exactly correct.

Nobuyuki Tsujii is born blind. He exhibited an exceptional prowess for music at an early age. At the age of two, he began to play "do re mi" on a toy piano after hearing his mother hum the tune. Judy Reardon; the pain pouring out of his fingers was because he trapped his fingers under the piano lid!
William...shame on you...you know better then that....
B4NG KAI he literally called the guy a pussy because he expressed what he was feeling
I think he likes sandwiches.
Darya Nahibina beautiful perspective. He's gifted.
Darya Nahibina I love ur comment.
That music, played by that beautiful man has brought tears to my eyes. He truly has a wonderful gift, I didn't realise until the end that he is blind. He is just so lovely and his music is wonderful, full of love, sensitivity, compassion, kindness and gentleness, The very best of humanity. God bless him.
Elizabeth Butler hallleluyah
just beautiful ...
It came from his soul. simply real.
Elizabeth Butler i didn't know this thank you 🐧
au delà de la technique, ce qui rend le morceaux absolument parfait, c'est l'intensité émotionnelle que met le pianiste à le jouer. Tout simplement à couper le souffle! Merci. Merci. Un moment parfait.
Wow😢such a beautiful piece. Music is the universal language.
Love from South Africa❤

Music is not a language, music is the key to the part in our soul that we try to hide, because that part is vulnerable or broken... music is the tape when we try to survive, the medicin when we are sick.
Music is the love we all share
9k dislikes... sometimes I wonder why this generation is so heartless. This guy has such a pure heart.
it’s for the people who doesn’t like the sound on this great piano music

Eliel203 9,000 almost doesn’t register on a pie graph next to 28,000,000. Please get a grip.
done dislike
Eliel203 some people will never understand how this world works...
Adrian you should be comparing the 9k to the 292k, in order to get the proportion of people who actually decided to press either button, instead of the people who could’ve been unable or been too lazy to do it.
The ratio is roughly (292k) 32:1 versus (28mil) 3111:1
Music is universal. We just can't fully understand why it brings us to a different level in this world. We just can't miss the greatness in musician like him. A true genius!
Because it makes us stop thinikng words but feel. Try meditation^^ focus on breathing
Music Speaks, When words fail. Simply Beautiful.
Even if he is a blind pianists, he has the gift to play and listen with his heart than many of us who dont even know how to play the simplest of keys or tunes even if we aren’t blind. God has gifted him to make us appreciate what a wonderful life we all have to inspire others with what little way we can
God bless all brother.
God bless all....
Whatever
Earlier ... when he was young, he said he wanted to see his mother's face ...
😭😭😭 pls dont remind me of that
@@bobababy6089 I understand as I have no mother or father. I can't tell you what that feels like and to loose my sister as well that can't be explained. Also a past habit is all people want to remind me of it along with strangers. Music and the love for cannabis is what keeps me going. Your my friend now.
He is blind actually
@@GoogleAccount-xx8fc Dang, that sounds really tough🙁💔

The humility with which an artist bows and appreciates the applause, is a thing of beauty that is to be cherished forever.
it's a Japanese thing that more of us could learn from
I'm trying to cover this beautiful piece

Who needs eyes when the soul sees the heart, when the hands can speak the language of the soul for the heart to understand thus giving life to all that hear. God bless you Nobuyuki. I am sure the angels both rejoice and weep when your music rises to the ears of our precious Lord.

It's simply MAGNIFICENT the way He poured out all his sorrows in form of music.
Blind musicians are always with the best performers, they hear the most, they play with the heart the most.
That's a bit simplistic, isn't it...
Beethoven be like: Am I a joke to u?
