Aluminium is the future and the North West passage will be the new “caribian” where all will sail...... no doubt... hurra for global warming, or what...
Ouf! ( Sigh of relief)... I thought you guys were leaving sailing. You are the most professional reference on the tube. Don't you dare stop publishing. LOL Can't wait to see your new cat... Marc from Montreal.
Hadn't watch Distant Shores for a while, however, judging from this post, I must say your videos are still the best on YT! On your shows the emphasis is about the place, the people the adventure which makes the show much more compelling.
😳... what a surprise! Just goes to show that when all the world is engulfed in the negative, here's you guys making plans for your next big adventure. Fantastic!
Your boat was barely a year old when we sailed with you in Annapolis! I haven’t had a chance to watch the q&a yet. Wow surprised you are selling such a wonderful boat that you “demonstrated” how she can rub aground and use the keel as a feeler gauge. Her future owner will be blessed with a well maintained and beauty vessel!
I wish to have they time and the resources some day to buy and enjoy a bout like this, great video, I have been in Panama twice but this video has showed me new sights
So I Guess You Want A Garcia? Can’t blame you. Been following you two since before the Internet, the only sailing show in town then and still one of the best! Best wishes from Port Perry Ont
This is a great channel and your success is celebrated by all of your subscribers. Perhaps when the time is right you will share your reasons for selling Distant Shores III so soon and what are your future plans both in yacht choices and adventures. One thing for sure, the future owner of Distant Shores III will have the benefit of all the experience of two life long, well traveled, skippers, who optimized all the outfitting of this fine and capable, but virtually new cruising yacht. Best wishes and fair winds for your future adventures. 😎
Thank you, Vincent. Yes, we are going to be sharing our reasons for the change of boats in future videos and will be documenting the design and build process.
what an epic well produced video. of all the boats I have seen on the net, yours is one of the best equipped and maintained. your love and passion for sailing will most undoubtedly be felt by DS III's new owners with every passage and anchorage. I could see myself at the helm. Luv ya!!
hello shirly hello paul ... I got lost ... I couldn't see him live because of the schedule ... they are going to change the ship ..... it's true .... and why are they changing next ... countnnn thank you for making quarantine enjoyable now I am a loyal subscriber and I am waiting, you videos
I like the offer of the 'extended hand over cruise.' That's as big a feature as the swing keel and the beautiful coach (windows) cabin. But it'll be a few years before I can afford it....
It seems like only yesterday we saw you both here in Gibraltar, having the solar arch fitted. If we didn't have our beloved Lady Golem (whose refit is finally coming along at a pace) we would be all over the opportunity to acquire Distant Shores III! Her next owners will be lucky indeed. Wishing you both fair winds, and can't wait to see Distant Shores IV taking shape. Much love from Tereza and I!
Targ - just for reference where did you get your solar arch/solar refitted in Gibraltar? Looking for recommendations as I will be along the coast next summer and want the same done on my boat. Thanks. Bernie
Missed you last winter due to gall stones! Why not just buy a Garcia 52, you get aluminium, insulation and safety with all the benefits of your Southerly’s variable draft.
Another good one. Thanks for continuing to post. My dream is to sail the North Pacific . .alone . . which I intend to do. Your channel is really well done. thanks
Congratulations on your Panama adventure. Thanks for all your helpful videos. I would love to buy Distant Shores III. Let me run out and buy a lottery ticket. I’ll be in touch soon if this week is my (your) lucky week. Hope you’ll be OK with us renaming her “Rippling Waters” (old Nitty Gritty Dirt Band song). Have fun building/designing your next boat.
I'm interested to know more about the new boat! Imagine it's going to be a custom kit... Bruce Roberts perhaps?? Do tell. I'm also looking at welding up a kit and am very interested in the specifics, especially considering it will be modified with a swing keel :) (munching popcorn)
So after " 5 continents over 26 years of international cruising, putting 100,000 miles under the keel and doing 7 ocean crossings", and; you two finally get to the pacific ocean. Woohoo! and then you sailed to the nearest dock and had to leave. I'm truly sad that the virus has caused this. If I were able to afford to purchase DS III, it would be my intention to sail with a few small detours, what you had already scheduled and hope to get you two at least to Fiji. You two still get to sail that part of the south pacific as you had chosen and I would get to sail with and learn from two consummate sailors. While your new yacht is being built. That is,,,, if/when the Pacific Islands ever open back up to sailors.
Wonderful videos. By why are you selling her so soon? Is there as problem with Southerly yachts? She just looks so beautiful and is so well equipped a dream yacht for me. Is there some sort of design problem with the yacht?
Didn’t see that one coming DS111 is a beautiful well equipped boat that has been ‘shaken down’ by experienced owners and that actually has to be much better than a new boat straight from the yard. The journey towards DS4 should be both exciting and interesting.😀👍⛵️
We'll be posting more info this weekend, Jock. As a guideline the base price of a new Southerly 480 is £825,000 (just over 1 million US). Distant Shores III was launched in 2018 but has a lot of upgraded equipment plus we're offering an extended handover cruise to the new owners to be sure they understand all the systems and how to handle the boat in lots of conditions. Thanks for your interest.
Yellow Fever shots are only required if you are coming from one of the listed countries with risk of yellow fever transmission, otherwise the shots are recommended but not required. Here's the info: www.iamat.org/country/panama/risk/yellow-fever
Selling the boat? What happened to the announced adventure journey into the Pacific Ocean? Well, I guess it's Covid 19 who canceled the adventure, and that's a shame. Understandable, but sad. Is it really impossible to explore the South Seas? You say here that you don’t want to give up sailing. What is your plan for the future? Buy a smaller boat and sail on the lakes and along the coasts of Canada and the United States? Hmm ... Whatever it will be, I wish you all the best and good luck. It has been a pleasure to follow you via Travel Channel and TH-cam.
It is not impossible to explore the South Seas, drluaga. Some of the islands have opened to sailors but now we are getting into Cyclone Season and our yacht insurance restricts us from sailing there at this time of year. Unfortunately the airport and borders in Panama, where our boat is stored, is still closed. If we do get back soon we'll return to the Caribbean as soon as Hurricane Season is over in November so we'll get a winter of sailing in, then see how the world situation is.
Makes me wish I had enough cash for this great sailboat....'cause she would be better than purchasing a new one, since all the problems of a new boat have been worked out by Paul....which sometimes can take many weeks.
A cat hmm 2 engines , BIg marina fees , Windward performance ? , slamming , Mind Games in heavy weather (been there done that) OK Comfort yes ... Good luck & fairwinds .
Thanks for letting me know. I swear I had turned off "in video" commercials but I just checked and found they were turned on. I have now turned them off so they shouldn't interrupt during the program. Also we always turn off "overlay ads" on the videos.... nevertheless we make very little revenue on these TH-cams vs the cost to produce the shows :-( I hope you enjoyed the program...
A ridiculous amount of ads. Before the 11 minute mark I’m on my fourth set! One ad, genuinely was 67 minutes long. It’d be fine if I wasn’t soaking in the bath with wet hands

What are you guys buying next?
They'll be building their own custom aluminum monohull for some northern sailing.
Correct :-) our recent Q&A has more th-cam.com/video/1iSnxGmxKfQ/w-d-xo.html
Aluminium is the future and the North West passage will be the new “caribian” where all will sail...... no doubt... hurra for global warming, or what...
Bertram Merlin oh please 🙄
@@BertMerlin57 I'm Canadian and can confirm this is our plan.
Ouf! ( Sigh of relief)... I thought you guys were leaving sailing. You are the most professional reference on the tube.

Marc from Montreal.
Lol 😂 thanks Marc. No we won’t stop publishing or sailing
Cat! They'll never go catamaran .
I thought too, now I happy again
It feels like you just bought her. What a dream come true she'll make to her new owners. 😊
Hadn't watch Distant Shores for a while, however, judging from this post, I must say your videos are still the best on YT! On your shows the emphasis is about the place, the people the adventure which makes the show much more compelling.
Thanks for your kind words, Rick!
If you drop that by about £800,000, we might begin to negotiate.
I was sailing on the Distant Shores lll yesterday in the Puget Sound. Wow what a beautiful boat!
Hi Ken, So glad you got a chance to sail on Distant Shores III in the Puget Sound.
😳... what a surprise! Just goes to show that when all the world is engulfed in the negative, here's you guys making plans for your next big adventure. Fantastic!
We are looking forward to the new boat reveal. Sounds like a great way to spend this time of isolation...design a new boat. We will be following.
Wow. Selling so soon??? Fair winds with the next chapter
Sailing Ruby Rose CAT time🤔
I think there is a spelling mistake in this video name. Looking forward to seeing RR2.
Oh how we dream of owning and sailing the world with our little boy, cheer to the lucky ones that buy this amazing sailboat ⛵️

This is a good move, there are more and more zones being locked down and almost impossible to travel by boat the next few years or so
Might make it hard to find a buyer for the same reasons on that logic though!
@@markjennings2315 Quite so. Yet honest. This has delayed my plans dramatically.
I was just watching the launch & so on on regular television. Really amazed that you are selling her so soon..

Bernie, we had the solar arch built for Distant Shores III at Pritchard's Marine in Gibraltar. www.pritchardsmarine.com/
Bernie Kelleher Pritchards Marine (run by James Pritchard) is fantastic. Highly recommended around Gibraltar and for good reason.
Distant Shores TV thank you very much. It looks very nice and functional.

I see from your previous video that you are staying mono but going Al. Curious....what was problematic about the Southerly..besides hull composition ?
Maybe not a southerly longer, but more a Discovery whit swing keel.... Just a Thought... I like the old original Southerly better....
Love your shows, can’t afford your boat so I bought a Beneteau.
I want to visit Central America. I have been all over South America and it looks about the same.
This is my favorite show on AWE.

I bet now it’s the perfect (mandatory) time to take a break of cruising. By building a boat!
I’m just making the hull design. 😉
Love how detailed your videos are. We always feel like we are learning something new when we watch.
come visit the yukon territory, you can stop by the marina in skagway or haines alaska and visit whitehorse.

They are beautiful boats for sure, Andrew, but we're monohullers so are staying with one hull.
