    nice. can you get autofocus bird tracking while recording slow motion video on the A6700 ?

    • @WillemvanderPijl

      Yes, I am not sure about S&Q mode though. Which is required to shoot at 240fps slowmotion. But 4K 120fps has Bird AF

    Amazing video! Did you use any lens filter to help keep you shutter speed and aperture settings good? Of course, the rich natural surroundings are beautiful. Thanks!

      Thank you so much!
      No I only had an UV filter for protection which I always have.
      I used 4K 100fps with 1/200 shutter and ISO auto (I think) could also be that I lowered the ISO a bit.
      With telephoto I don't need my UV filters most of the time. Only with my 2.8 lens

      Iso: Auto
      4K 100fps
      1/200 shutterspeed
      Bird autofocus (though some shots are manual focus)
      Steady shot on (not active)
      Apenture was the max of my lens at that focal length so 5.6 - 6.3

    Nice footage!
    I see that there are sometimes background shake/pulse for example at 2:00, I noticed same thing with my a6700+200-600, can't get rid of it, no matter how I setup AF sensitivity or speed, slowing down AF makes less noticable, but still visible.

    • @WillemvanderPijl

      Could be rolling shutter but in this case I think its premiere warp stabilisation at work..
      It's not something I would see when the camera is stationary.
      Do you see it when not moving?

    • @PatrickWithCamera

      @@WillemvanderPijlIt is visible without warp, mostly visible on tripod, because without any camera movement it easier to notice background pulsing, especially visible if bird is surrounded by branches. this happens only with 200-600, with 70-350 or 150-500 Didn't notice such things or it is so slight that is not visible.

      @@PatrickWithCamera ahhhh, I might know what you mean. My A6700 autofocus goes crazy sometimes because of branches it's very annoying.

    Lovely. It’s great for video. How do like it for stills? My limited experience when using it for a day was that my hit rate for stills with 200-600 for only 30-40% so I didn’t buy it. What’s your experience like? It could be different from mine. Thanks

    • @WillemvanderPijl

      What camera body did you use it with?
      With my a6700 I would say 90% hitrate. It's the best telephoto I ever used.
      There are settings on the side which do have their effect on the autofocus. For example I think if you have a bird with unpredictable movement, I believe you should use "mode 3". But I would consult the manual about that

  • @shadyrack22

    This is really great quality footage, very crisp! I just got an a6700. I'm curious, are you shooting off a tripod with fluid head? Your image quality is amazing at long focal lengths which is something I'm struggling with. Thanks!

    • @WillemvanderPijl

      I used a monopod for this. It helps that I'm shooting at 100fps and 1/200 shutter speed. When taking pictures always double your focal length for the shutter speed if you shoot out of hand. For video that's more tricky..
      But filming this would have been impossible without monopod. Look at the last kestrel shots on the sign, that's out of hand..
      What lens are you using?

    • @shadyrack22

      @@WillemvanderPijl Thanks for the response! I am using a sony 70-350mm lens and also an older sony 18-200mm lens. Both have optical steady shot. I can get crisp images up close at shorter focal length, probably up to 120-150mm, but the further i zoom it gets more blurry and shaky on the subject. I think it is possibly caused by slight vibration in my tripod due to wind and also i need to dial in my focus settings better.

      @@shadyrack22 hm I have no experience with the 18-200. Check if your A6700 is on active stabilisation maybe?

      @@WillemvanderPijl a6700 is my only camera so i havent tried with others. I have adjusted the shutter speed up a little bit to 320 which I have found helps. I need to push it to 400 or 500 to see if that helps. (I'm shooting at 120fps 95% of the time). I'm still testing several different settings to find what works best at the moment.

    • @WillemvanderPijl

      @@shadyrack22 my standard is double of my framerate so 1/200 th of a second. But yeah try higher if it's too shaky.
      Double shutter speed number of your fps does create more motion blur which can make footage look smoother. Hope it helps. Is it camera shake or stuttery footage?

      @@WillemvanderPijl Nice to see that 100 fps with 6.3 aperture performs so well without direct sunlight in cloudy day! I'm about to buy the a6700 and 70-350 so I constantly monitor TH-cam to see each 4k 100-120 video made with this combo. I'm really happy to see it because I hear many complains that 4k 100 is grainy but you made really a National Geographic level job. I would be really grateful if you tell your picture profile, ISO level and exposure. Thank you!

      @@harry54ck that compliment means a lot!! ISO I don't know anymore but according to zebra, some water reflections were overexposed.
      I use no picture profile
      The key, I think, is shutterspeed. For video always make your shutterspeed double that of your fps. So for 100fps video 1/200 shutter.

    should i get this camera or the fx30??

    • @WillemvanderPijl

      It depends. A6700 has better autofocus, especially for animals. And if you like taking photos aswel A6700 is the way to go because FX30 won't do that very well (no viewfinder and no burst shot)
      FX30 is what you need if you only shoot video and you need to film for long periods of time. The fan will prevent overheating. A6700 WILL OVERHEAT if you film on higher framerates for a while
