  • Welcome back, today I review my DPV. The Blacktip Tech by DiveXtras. The DiveX BlackTip Tech is one of three models in the blacktip lineup, including the BlackTip Travel and the BlackTip Exploration. It has been a fantastic underwater scooter so far and has really opened up my shore diving.

    Great video man! I think it is also worth noting how quiet they are too. Moving quietly through the water is an unbeatable experience compared to the older, noisy models. Cheers! Again, loved the vid.

    100% agree. I just got the Blacktip Tech (picking it up Saturday). Those 12ah batteries are super tough to find right now though so I got the 9ah ones to tide me over. I also recommend the vacuum kit too

      I just heard about the shortage! Hopefully they turn up soon, but you'll have a ton of fun with the 9ah. Once you get the 12s, you could use the 9s in one of those dewalt fans. Super nice to have in the tent when you're camping. As long as you're not backpacking, lol.

    Really nice video. I was also an early adopter when before they made the "tech" tube to trim the scooter out. I've also dealt with the firmware glitches and broken handles as Dive Xtras addressed these issues. It's certainly not perfect but it's a great little scooter. For the price the Blacktip is a hard value to beat. I've certainly pushed it to it's limits in cave and done some longer ~2.5-3 mile open water dives with it. I do find it funny and I feel like a lot of people are "butt-hurt" that a $1750 scooter can keep up with their $6000-$8000 "real" technical scooter. The Blacktip as it stands has more thrust and runtime than a lot of old school lead acid battery scooters that used to be THE tech scuba.
    I tell people all the time that it's not an $8000 Suex but that's not it's market demographic. The fact remains that there is really NOTHING in the $3000-$5000 price range that matches the Blacktip. If there was i'd buy one right now :-)
    It's slowly becoming the DIY scooter for people who like to tinker with third party firmware, 3D printed T handles and accesories and now lots of people are making 20-25ah batteries :-)

      I think the Blacktip is the best value, but Tusa is just over $3k, has a longer runtime, more power, longer range, etc etc. There's not "nothing" in the $3-5k range, is all I mean to say.

    • @DiveVibe
      @DiveVibe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a Silva 58 kayak compass. I've had it for about a year and it's been down to 220'. It's oil filled and intended for saltwater use, so It should be fine. No problems so far.

    hey, what's that threaded gopro mount you have in this video? Not your newer accessories video. I like what you have here since it goes onto the existing handle strap. Let me know, thank you!

      It's a gopro hand strap that I threaded onto the handle strap. It worked ok, broke pretty fast.

    Can you get one that can be adapted for an outboard boat motor; just for short distant manoeuvring?

      They dont make an adapter or anything, but there was a dude on the diveX facebook group that did it.

    Hey Zack, as an (unfortunately) retired dive instructor, just out of curiosity, have you experienced any impact on the marine creatures, exposed to the sound of an underwater scooter, and I just noticed the compass on the device, have you experienced any deviation due to the electro magnetic field created by the scooter, that effects the compass, just a nerdy question-love your channel !!

    • @DiveVibe
      @DiveVibe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The blacktip is a real quiet scooter. The noise usually doesn't bother anything as far as I can tell. I think the compass was having a little interaction with the motor, so I pushed it further up the tube and haven't had problems. Thanks Sven!

    What's your opinion about the lefeet s1 pro.

    • @DiveVibe
      @DiveVibe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It straddles the line between water toy and legitimate DPV. I haven't used one, but I've had one in my hands and gotten feedback from some colleagues. It's great for snorkeling and diving in a low stakes environment. The blacktip is about the bare minimum IMHO I would use for serious dives. Of course we still take all the necessary precautions and assume that all our gear will fail.

    Hi, can I ask if the motor is cooled by water?

    • @DiveVibe
      @DiveVibe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! So, just between the propeller and the main body, you can see the slimmer portion has metal plates. Those are there to cool the motor. I hope that makes sense. Great question.

      @@DiveVibe Thank you for the answer, yes, this is a very good solution. Is there a gearbox on this tow truck or does the screw rotate directly from the motor?

    Nice value horrible customer service. Here is their response over a $7.50 handle that broke during assembly.
    Note they never asked for photos.
    Hello John,
    The part was already ordered and per you email you said, the handle broke as I took twisted off the nose. In most cases if the handle was broken upon opening of the box that would be stated instead of saying it happened as you took off the nose.
    I'm sorry you are so upset over this small part to feel so compelled to be " pissed off" but warranty doesn't cover customer broken parts only out of the box and I don't know how I would have a chance to inspect it when no photos were sent of the broken parts only of your order with another company so it did not ship direct from us and the email in no way stated I opened by box and it was broken.
    We will ship out your parts per your order.
    Thank you and have a great day.
