- A History of the New York Taxi Cab - In this video, we will explore the history and evolution of taxis in New York City, from the first electric carriages in 1897 to the new model Nissan NV200, known as the Taxi of Tomorrow or taxi models such as Tesla, Toyota Prius, Toyota Highlander Hybrid or Chevrolet Impala . The evolution of yellow taxis in New York is based on a complex history that brings into the spotlight iconic cars such as DESOTO SKYVIEW, Checker, Dodge Coronet, Chevrolet Caprice, Galaxie and Ford Crown Victoria.
