    I noticed at screen time 5.27 the front of the trailer is very high compared to the back. The Rebel is much higher the the other trucks. This induces sway. I didn't see if you had a drop adjustable hitch. I bet if you dropped it 2 inches the sway would be gone. My friend towed his race car home one time nose high and could only drive 30mph because it was all over the road!.

    The sway control should be set up for each individual truck because hitch heights may differ between trucks. This may account for the trailer sway.

    I don't know about the new model Rebel's, but with my 2020 Rebel, I can have ALL the FLUID TEMPERATURES plus the speed in between the TACH and the SPEEDOMETER. It make it nice to View ALL the fluid temps right in front of the driver! I do LOVE my 2020 RAM REBEL!!

    I'm pretty sure you only get the advanced trailer info page when you get the trailer reversing assist package. With that package, you basically drive a short route with 90 degree turns with your trailer hooked up and the truck will detect the length, weight, etc, and then you can fine tune it after it's in the system.

      I have a 2021 1500 BigHorn 5th Gen and have the "Blind-Spot and Cross-Path Detection" and "Trailer Brake-Controller" options and do not have the "trailer reversing assist" option yet it allows me to setup different trailers and detects the lengths and such after I do a few 90 degree turns.

    Great series you’re doing on all these 1/2 ton trucks. Definitely information I’d be looking at closely if I was in the market for a new truck.

    The sway comes down to the air suspension. A decent anti-sway bar & weight distribution hitch eliminates that; and with the air suspension, the ride is much nicer than truck in that class without air suspension.
    My personal experiences with the 5.7L HEMI engines has been that you can get better fuel mileage by switching to a premium racing grade oil, as well as choosing different octane fuel to meet the requirements of your driving.
    If you're driving long distances on the highway, with no load or only a moderate load, then switch to the highest octane you can get at the pump; and stick to 55-60 mph. If you're driving mostly in the city, or with heavy loads, or off-road, stick with 87 octane.
    Ultimately, you're right about the off-road package impacting fuel economy. Off-road trucks just suck at saving fuel.

    I have a 2021 Rebel Ecodiesel with no air suspension, payload is 1477. My trailer is about the same size as yours (It's a Kodiak 201QB). I tow without a weight distributing hitch, have a Hayes Sway Master installed on the trailer. I've towed over 7,200 miles and never had any sway issues. Like someone else commented, your hitch may be too high. Check the trailer Manufacturer spec to see where your ball height should be when towing. Mine is 18". Diesel provides a lot "calmer" tow experience. My engine revs to 2,800 when it down shifts, only goes to 3,200 at the steepest hills. Normally spins at 1,800 - 2,000 in 7th and 6th gear. AND, I've averaged 13.80 MPG for that 7,200 miles of towing. The exhaust note doesn't sound as good, she doesn't accelerate as well unloaded as that HEMI, but for the towing mission I'd recommend the Ecodiesel.

    Like other comments before. The air ride suspension is mushy, especially in Aero mode. I haven't towed with my 2016 Rebel, but I have towed many trailers at work. ( driller ) Tires also make a big difference. I've noticed ( at work ) that Goodyear's are mushy, and Michelins are more stable. Also, my Rebel runs better on higher octane fuels.

    Might have to start doing as a few of the other channels do. Fill the tank till it shuts off, give it a 30 second count and then top it off. My friends and I have actually been doing that for years

      As long as you’re filling the truck the same way. Don’t matter if you wait 30 sec then top off (TFL Trucks), or stop on the first click. Be consistent.

    • @Pickuptrucktalk
      @Pickuptrucktalk  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      ^this. I've been consistent for years and only occasionally have an issue. TFL also has some inconsistent readings from time to time with 3 clicks as well. No rhyme or reason.

    I would crisscross the safety chains. If the hitch pops off, it doesn’t hit the ground. It will rest on the chains until you stop.

  • @rocket9152
    @rocket9152 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should definitely use a weight distribution hitch and a shorter shank along with the anti-sway bars to improve the stability of your setup. You will avoid sway and the truck will feel much more planted and connected to the trailer with no sagging. As pointed out by someone else, the chains should also be criss-crossed. I really like that Rebel GT. It should make a heckuva tow vehicle once the hitch is properly set up.

    After watching this video the second time, I beleive if you lowered your "ball hitch", it would level the railer, as it appeared thr trailer was higher in the front than the rear, which may affect the sway you talk about.

  • @diggermolly5927
    @diggermolly5927 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was always told that to utilize a weight distributing hitch the truck had to be somewhat lower, creating an angle that caused the hitch to work correctly. With the self leveling, it looks like in the video that the truck hitch is higher that the load, can anyone explain this?
