I'm sorry if this was a bit of a depresso video -- the next video will be deconstructing those feelings. Stay tuned for Doomerism, Sisyphus, and Global Crisis.

I don't know if anyone else thinks or thought this way apart from myself, but I suspect there must be at least a few out there. Pre 2008, I used to think that no matter what was wrong with the country and the world, that progress was steady and inevitable. Over the course of the Obama years, I began to realize if that had ever been true before, it wasn't true now. From 2016 onward, I came to realize that progress was actively being pushed back against and it would have to be fought for tooth and nail in order to advance it even an inch. Realizing that was probably the biggest shift in my worldview of my adult life.

Haven't seen a video of yours in ages, but this was perfectly timed as I'm having a pretty bad day. Thank you. :)

Thank you for making the video, just nice to know there are other people just genuinely shaken up about what happened.

The one thing that staves off my "no, most people aren't good" feelings is reminding myself that elections aren't determined by two halves of the whole country; they're just decided by two halves of the population that votes. Most people do not engage with politics or vote. And no; that's not because of privilege; most working class people still don't engage with politics and they have a myriad of ideologically incoherent beliefs that all exist in cognitive vacuums, isolated from one another and full of contradictions. They also trust neither legacy media nor social media. They don't look into any stories that pop up on their feeds and even if they do, they take everything with a a GIANT heap of salt. They're not hip on any discourse, like, at ALL. If they have any political takes, those are informed by the poorly informed discussions they sometimes have at parties or at the dinner table where everyone just says sh*t and nothing is verified or looked into.
You know what question was trending on google on ELECTION NIGHT? "Did Biden drop out?" You know what google search trended the day AFTER election night? "What is a Tarif?"
So no; half of the country isn't evil. Most of the country is just ideologically incoherent, misinformed, and miss trustful of news to the point that anything inconvenient for someone's pre-decided vote can be written off with "pffff who's to say what's true?"
If your chosen hope to lower the price of your groceries keeps getting accused to being anti LGBTQ, or women, or immigrants, and you have lots of friends in those groups telling you so; you can just decide that they're all on lefty twitter or reddit too much or that they fell for mainstream media fear mongering. There is nothing that can't be written off by the average median voter with any combination of "social media these days; amirite" or "oh that headline is too scary to not be click bait" or "of course YOU'RE gonna say X is happening because all the stuff on your ideological corner of the net says X is happening so I'm just gonna assume it's bull shit; no I'm not clicking the link you just sent me; go back to screaming about X with your mutuals; I have to go to work. I'm not gonna think about this again till election night when I just vote for the guy I've already decided on."

Very solid points here. My "rebuttal" as it were is, if we say it's a third and a third and a third, and the third that didn't vote just doesn't care or whatnot -- that is functionally the same to me. They equally do not care whether trans people / etc are alive or not.
In my mind, willful ignorance is functionally the same as choosing evil. Maybe I won't feel that way forever, but that's how I feel right now at least

In terms of safety, I'd recommend looking into the SRA, Pink Pistols, or Operation Blazing Sword. In terms of community building... we're already doing that. Keep going to LARPs and games and meeting people. Talking to people and making connections is really all there is to it, and you're good at that. I'm with you.

Thank you for this video, Jera. I've similarly felt my worldview challenged over the past week, but I guess I've more directed it inward. I've started to question if I'm just *wrong* about everything. About my image of the world and of how I've come to understand myself. I've wondered if this truely is just the world course correcting for my own delusion
It's.. Honestly a pretty dark place to be. I think I should be able to face these thoughts directly and honestly though; to shy away from them may prove their truth. I don't have a good answer, but I know what I feel and I know I'm not alone. I think more than ever it's important for me to be my best and most capable self, so that's what I intend to do

The side that hates, and runs from knowledge, is the one that's wrong. You are not that, my friend

If you are triggered this points to an internal issue usually based around some sort of trauma. It is not the external world that will change this. Your trauma will continue to resurface in other areas. At the end of the day you will be fine just do the internal work and stop pretending the external world aligns exactly to your traumas.
