Should I be disappointed? Probs not, but 'Want U Back' has endured for that long...
For me, as a longtime country fan, it's Body Like a Backroad. 50% for its insulting lazy buffoonery, and 50% for insulting lazy buffoonery somehow being the biggest country hit of the year over all the deserving women (and men) who put out actual quality country music. It's the epitome of the lack of excellence rising to the top, and it insults me on every level. God I hope that new Sam Hunt album bombs. He just takes up space in the genre.
I don't think it's even possible to entirely hate him as a toxic and contemptible presence anymore which was possible before the song came out, precisely BECAUSE of that song. It just leaves an air of stupidity swirling around him.
Body Like A Back Road is a guilty pleasures.
Me and my best friend nearly started fighting in the car about it one time. When it came out I said it was godawful, especially the “backroad” simile, but he loved it and kept playing it on repeat to wind me up.
It’s interesting, Todd in the shadows listed hey look ma, I made it as #10 on his top 10 favourite songs of 2019 and this guy listed it as the 8th worst song of the decade. Just goes to show how drastic different people’s opinions can be.

Lighters from what I understand from his worst of 2011 video was just a really bad collaboration that was a sign of bad things to come from Eminem. Sexy and I Know It is just a really bad joke song but nowhere as bad and offensive as something like Freaky Friday.

Weird opinion alert: The "Birthday Cake" remix is almost avant-garde in its cacophony, and some sick part of me would really like it if it weren't for how unspeakably grotty the underlying concept is. Most of the other songs here merely suck, but few of them suck so brazenly and adventurously. But, again, the fact of what the song represents sort of ruins it for me.
When it comes to Lil Dicky going into Kendall Jenner's body, he's actively AVOIDING consent, which is so much worse.

ATRL's gay community (myself included) should probably consider it a net positive that only Ariana, Meghan and Rihanna made the list with one song each - with Katy, Taylor and Halsey all surviving unscathed. As a member of the forum, it's funny how they'll discredit Mark just because he gives a lot of pop albums 6 or 7's out of 10....but then forget that he's actually put a lot of pop songs on his best of lists (especially Ariana having more songs on the best of list than her one Worst of pick) and also we've had songs be Best of the week despite not making the Best of the Year list like Back To You or Motivation or Good As Hell.
Anyways, good list Mark. Looking forward to the Best of the Decade next whenever that comes.

I don't think Motivation of Good As Hell made the year end list last year so they wouldn't have been eligible
I loved the list. My only quibble was no Maroon 5. No Sugar, no Girls Like You, What Lovers Do, Animal, Memories, the one where they are bugs that I have blocked out. Not even on the DMs.
Most of those were too boring to come remotely close to his radar for a list of this caliber, and "Memories" isn't eligible for the 2010s decade list anyhow since it didn't make 2019's YE Hot 100.
I'm a massive Maroon 5 hater, but I think they've had loads of bad songs, and maybe even a couple of terrible songs, but nothing really offensively bad enough to make a decade end list
Yes all those M5 songs are bad but I don't see what is wrong with Sugar. That song is super groovy and sounds like it came off of their It Won't Be Long Before Now album from 2007. Reminds me a little bit of Makes Me Wonder.

Early stuff will be remembered fondly, maybe even in an ironic cool way. Their stuff after and including Overexposed, tho? That won't be seen in good light down the road at all. Especially once everyone catches on to the fact that they've been so excruciatingly lazy this last decade, that the lazy as all hell Memories, that steals from No Woman No Cry for no reason other than to pad it out, isn't supposed to be a vague I miss you song, or a song celebrating their success, but a farewell to their deceased former manager. I don't know about you, but I would hate to know the song that was dedicated to me was somehow an even lazier pile of shit than Girls Like You. It's actively insulting how shitty and lazy it is. At least Chicago was terrible in a unique and special way.
As much as I hard disagree with your distaste for Break Up With Your Girlfriend I'm Bored, at least you had the decency to place it in the context of the album and how much it does or doesn't work as a closing track. (Side note: Having the singles for your album be the last three tracks is very strange, but I kinda respect it.)

Same here! Middle Child and I Fall Apart are a bop and I personally enjoyed both songs. Also with Birthday Cake, I liked the original 80 second song, but not the Chris Brown remix because Chris Brown obviously.

The Time (Dirty Bit) by the Black Eyed Peas is the absolute nadir of recorded music. Every time it comes on I want to rip out Will.I.Am's voice box, grab some strawberries and throw them into a blender running at full speed.
All it is is a lazy synth drop. BEPs did synths much better in "Boom Boom Pow". "The Beginning" really was the end for them in terms of relevance.

I was patiently waiting to see Bitches Love Me's spot. There's a special place in my soul for the hatred I harbor for that song.
I didn’t know it existed until I saw this list for the first time. I’m willing to defend a few of the song on this list, but Bitches Love Me is so utterly repulsive that I wouldn’t hesitate to call it a strong contender for my personal worst hit song of the 2010s. The shitty beat, so unsettling in its complete lack of a groove or a driving melody that it resembles the beeping of a surveillance device more than it resembles music, is just the beginning. No, what’s worse is that the song’s lyrics are a highlight reel of the kind of foul, utterly shameless misogyny that has decorated the career arcs of all three artists on it, culminating in Lil Wayne’s half-asleep, slurred verse, where every line that comes out of his mouth makes me want to vomit, as does his self-assurance that he can get away with it all.
It’s the kind of song the Reprehensible Tier was built for. I’m not religious, so for something to feel as utterly satanic to me as this does… well, it takes a lot.

You know, in retrospect, a lot of the music that came out in the 2010s got a lot of its inspiration from the 1980s.
And just like the 1980s there was a lot of shit songs back then too. We only remember the good ones (and maybe the bafflingly bad ones)

The way I see Chris Brown, there’s only really two points in his career: the time before he beat Rihanna when he actually made overall passable music (as an example, I actually had no issues with his debut album whatsoever), and the time after where his mere existence in any song he touched made them significantly worse.

I’d predict that 2016 and 2013 will each have two songs, and that 2011 and 2014 will get left off the list (maybe get listed in the DHMs).
Probably just 10 regardless of year, since not all years are created equal. Like, on my personal list, half the spots would probably be filled by 2018 since that year was just unforgivable on every level.
For some inexplicable reason, High Hopes and Hey Look Ma, I Made It have a stronghold at numbers 1 and 2 on the Hot Rock songs chart! Both these songs need to die a quick death and release their stronghold at the top of that chart (Orphans by Coldplay would have hit number one if not for these two songs)!
"Momentary Bliss" by Gorillaz would be at #1 right now!

This is reminding me how much bland and boring country tracks and adult alternative rock used to fill the radio and stores back in the 2000s and 2010s. Train and their store music especially lingers and i still hear played when i go to the store

DM 1: I forgot this really existed. I can't, however, forget how this guys can not sing to save his life. Don't get me wrong - I have heard this song a couple of times. There were places in it that Gilbert's voice was a hair away from cracking.

DM 3: I was amazed how this song gets overlooked everywhere. I'm not a country fan, but this is just....uhhhhh. This song puts me asleep every single time I'm trying to listen to it. For me, it's not rage inducing, but just so devoid of life that it makes any boring song you can think of like a high - speed lively song.

9. I could care less - child molesters are not welcomed into a normal society. Imagine this guy doing something inappropriate with you child. I'd stomp on his colourful head for real. As for the song - he admits in an interview how he just thought on his verse on the spot and he was like "What was wrong with me"? I can name a few things but let''s move on. Nicki decided to show us that even when she is at the zenith of her career, she can hit new lows. For that, I salute you, madam.

7. Chris Brown. Enough said. Everything I think of his was talked by every music critic. I'm not going to repeat everything.
6. I'm usually a calm and relexed guy. For me , to get angry, something really bad must happen. And, sure enough, Meghan Trainor releases my personal number 1 worst song of 2015. This song just enrages me and fill me with anger and contempt for it and for Meghan. It's just a list of demands and rules for the sorry loser that becomes this woman's husband. I feel sorry for the guy already.
5. Oh, look. The nice guy anthem. I don't know Mendes as a person, but, man, he's a sleazebag on this song. He can "treat you better" than the other guy. How does he know? Does he know how the imaginary boyfriend is treating the girl? Of course not. He just wants her to be with him because....whatever his reason is. I do condemn this kind of behaviour for both sexes and sure as hell don't want me, as a male, to be associated with guys like this.
4. And speaking about guys I don't want to be associated with. Here we have the Lil Wayne show. It's just sad and miserable excuse for a song which depicts the complete crumbling of Lil Wayne's career. He counts on shock value to save this sorry excuse for a song but fails. And people tell me that Blurred Lines is disgusting and creepy.
DM 8: I said what I have to say about this song. I hope that guy rots in prison. They will catch him doing something inappropriate again and I hope they sentence him to a life time in prison this time.
DM 9: It really is sad when I say this : Chris Brown is the best part of this song.

About the date rape line, well, a lot of rap songs had date rape line in them. And not only date rape lines. Future won the most from this. Congratz to him, I guess.

Because really imagine actually having to singing lyrics like I'll make it feel like a vacay turn the bed into an ocean that is just bad lyricism but also just uncomfortable in general and now for the other song from the next big girl group when we have a whole ass mamamoo and twice that are in a lot of ways eons better than blackpink even though I can get annoyed by a lot of twice's songs and out of all the K-pop girl groups I've heard I can say without a doubt I like mamamoo a lot better but then again it is what it is and the song is what is wrong with k-pop in general boombayah just makes me think of what would happen if The Chainsmokers completely sounded like they were over mixed and it's such a shame that jisoo at least save the song from me having a migraine the crazy part is both songs came out the same year

Is break up with your girlfriend really THAT bad? It’s one of the more bearable pop songs that is extremely self aware with itself and doesn’t try to be what it’s not. It doesn’t try to mean anything but it’s sentiment. I think it’s a solid pop song that I personally wouldn’t mind being played at parties because in reality... you have to have fun sometimes. It’s definitely not Ariana’s worst song, not at all (her worst song is hands on me which is a MILLION times worse than break up).
I remember one year the NRL in the grand final before the game starts we had two musical performances Slash from Guns N’ Roses which was great to watch, and the second one train. I’ve never seen a downgrade happen so fast.
