Call Me Maybe really shows me everything wrong with popular music. Not because the song itself is all that bad, but because the artists involved have made such better music. Carly Rae Jepsen has become the darling of indie pop, and the songwriter Josh Ramsay is the frontman of one of the best pop bands ever (Marianas Trench). And yet, outside of that song (and Good Time), name one song from either of them that’s gotten popular in the US. Apparently we just wanted to hear the lowest common denominator instead of what either artists are actually capable of.

    Random thoughts in order:
    - "Whistle" will now be stuck in my head for a week. That hook is catchy as smallpox (and about as pleasant). Thanks a lot.
    - It's been 7 years and I still think about how atrocious "Drive By" is on a regular basis. The lyrics are just so bafflingly terrible they randomly pop into my head about once a week. I've heard songs about chemtrails sung by talentless nobodies on TH-cam that made more sense.
    - "And this was a slot that was originally going to be filled by Justin Bieber''s 'Boyfriend'." I'd actually forgotten he made a song with that title, so my first reaction was "Hold up, Biebs dated a dude in 2012? I think I would remember that."

    10. I like the prechorus, but the drop blows, and this is far from the only Early-Mid 2010s EDM track that fits that description.
    9. This was the song that taught me how to whistle. Of course, I was too naïve and innocent back then to catch the obvious double entendre, but I can't have anything but nostalgia for this song.
    8. That beeping synth... hasn't aged particularly well to say the least.
    7. Pink, don't try to hit high notes, you're not Mariah Carey (or at least Mariah in her prime).
    6. Guilty pleasure solely due to nostalgia.
    5. I don't think this song is that bad. Don't get me wrong, it's not good by any means, just not something I really dislike.
    4. I actually like a fair deal of the production (the guitar line in particular, I think you could've built a solid mid-tempo pop rock song out of it), but the lyrics and vocals (UGH)… yeah, different story. When it comes to songs called "Want You Back", I'll take the Jackson 5 any day of the week.
    3. I didn't realize how bad the lyrics were when I was 11, so can you please forgive my nostalgia for this song (nostalgia, see a running theme here?).
    2. Cheesy WGWAG ballad.
DM1. Nicki Minaj's vocals kind of annoy me.
DM2. This ain't the last of Rihanna we'll see on this list.
DM3. Another song, another burst of nostalgia. Gee, 11 year old me really had a bad taste in music.
    DM4. Meh.
DM5. That production sure hasn't aged like fine wine.
DM6. Rack City Bitch Rack Rack City Bitch...
    DM7. See DM4.
    1. CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE (repeat ad infinitum)… one of the worst songs of the decade. I don't want my pop music to sound like I'm getting a root canal.

Guarantees (based on copyright bot spoilers) and my thoughts on them:
We Run the Night (chorus isn't bad, but drop ruins everything)
Whistle (doesn't sound bad, but far from subtle)
Turn Up the Music (horrendous post chorus synths)
Blow Me (One Last Kiss) (yeah, this song has shrunk on me considerably over the past 7 years)
Payphone (started Maroon 5's decline, but I still don't hate this)
Back in Time (great guitar lick, but wrong sample choice, and dubstep)
Want U Back (horrendous, most other years the worst of the year)
Drive By (don't hate this, but I do recognize the stupid lyrics)
I Won't Give Up (kind of boring, but I don't get the extreme hate)
You Da One (kind of annoying, but a masterpiece compared to one other song)
Other songs I expect to be on this list:
    Birthday Cake (duh!)
Rack City ("got your grandma on my dick", anyone?)
    Ass (again, duh!)
Starships (similar to We Run the Night)
The Motto (culturally damaging, and that one line from Lil Wayne)
    Boyfriend (just pitiful...)
We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (don't hate as much as others, but a big shift for Taylor Swift)

#5. Good lick, but horrendous dubstep.
      #4. What? This low? How?
      #3. Yeah, bad lyrics alert.
#2. I've never understood the extreme hate for this song.
DM1: I was expecting Starships, but yeah, annoying...
DM2: Compared to one other hit, this is a masterpiece...
DM3: It has shrunk drastically over the years...
      DM4: Okay, wasn't expecting this...
      DM5: Not Boyfriend?
      DM6: Horrendous.

Ayy, worst of 2012 list is finally out. Been waiting for a long time for it.
2012 was the kind of year which I remember for both the good and the bad. I guess it's because I graduated from high school then.
    10. Will make my list proper purely for that drop. Loved how Mark described Havana Brown as a "nasal annoyance" and how Pitbull says "Now fuck you, pay me" at one point.
    9. I remember having a discussion with a friend about this one while it was popular. And me trying to say that I know it's about blowjobs.....without mentioning the word. Or saying anything at all.
    8. Clusterfuck indeed. Tied with Don't Wake Me Up on my worst list.
    7. Meh. Couldn't care about it then, can't be bothered to care about it now.
    6. I used to change the channel whenever this came on.
    5. Damn, that "NUMBER TWO" bit will never cease to amuse me. The rest is garbage, though.
    4. Definitely making my worst list, but I'm not sure how high. It's petty drama/high school bullshit. I already ran out of patience for that in 2012, during my last month of high school.
    3. Orange used this one for an ad in my country....which was released this year. Couldn't they have let the song be forgotten?
    2. 'God knows we're worth it' What if I don't believe in God, Mraz?
DHM1: Guetta's pass should've ended with Sexy Bitch. As for this one......bland. Feeling mixed towards negative about it.
DHM2: Man, Rihanna is really straining her vocal chords on the chorus.
DHM3: What doesn't kill you makes you stronger? Nah, what doesn't kill me makes me wish I were dead. (Putting aside the jokes and the song references, this is one of the blandest song ever. Also, I remember hearing it during the first day of work at a certain company where I would later experience burnout. Fun stuff, eh?)
DHM4: One of its problems is the title. Also, I won't have What Makes You Beautiful on my worst list because: 1)1D were young and probably not involved with the songwriting and 2)The 1975 made a pretty good cover of it a while after.
DHM5: *spits water, starts laughing* Boyfriend is bad too, but this one is awful enough to make my list proper.
DHM6: This puts me to sleep. The grandma line is oddly amusing, though. I agreed when Mark said that if Tyga released it now, it would still chart.
DHM7: Ah yeah, this one. The Paula Abdul interpolation is the only interesting thing about it. Not surprised to find out that Cole hates it.
    1. Contender for my worst hit song of the decade, along with Gummo. Loved how one of the genres listed was "migrane". I guess it's a bit of a blessing that it doesn't exist on most streaming platforms. I wouldn't want to run into it.

Ayee another worst list! The early 2010s gives me some nostalgia back into my preteens.
    10. EDM's my favorite genre, and it doesn't take too much to impress me. Unfortunately, the drop here absolutely sucks and takes a song that I can somewhat like into a song that I dislike.
    9. I actually don't mind Whistle as I don't think anybody who took production in it took themselves seriously at all.
    8. I really don't like Chris Brown's work, give or take a couple of exceptions. This isn't one of them, although I'd say this is better than a majority of his songs (which is still bad, I don't like this).
    7. I actually don't mind this song. I actually like Pink's vocals in this song and I think this balances the terrible lyrics in the chorus.
    6. This is probably my biggest guilty pleasure from this year. I actually really enjoy the melody of this song, and the production fits well with Levine's squealy vocals. Even now, I still nod my head to Levine's part. Wiz's part is bad though, it's completely uninspired.
    5. Ehh, I don't like the song, but it's not anything worse than the majority of Pitbull songs. I kind of enjoy the sample used here.
    4. Trash like this is right up my alley. However, this is just too bad for me to like. Cher Lloyd's grunts and her talking in the pre-chorus just takes away from the sass and the production, which is all this song has, especially since the lyrics are awful in these sort of songs.
    3. I remember really liking Train when I was younger, mainly because the production was catchy, and lyrics meant absolutely nothing to me then. Nowadays, I still like the production, but the lyrics just makes ruins the credibility of songs like Drive By. Would put a majority of Train songs, this included, in the meh category.
    2. I completely understand why Spectrum would hate a song like this giving the timing, but I don't take a ballad like this seriously enough to care enough about the lyrics.
DM 1: This is actually really bad, I can't stand Nicki's vocals in this song. This would be in my list proper.
DM 2: The nothingness of the chorus puts attention on the lyrics, which are just as meaningless. This song is bad because it's void of anything good.
DM 3: This is probably my least favorite Kelly Clarkson. However, Kelly Clarkson is my favorite pop artist of all time. Her vocals on this song is enough to make me like this, even with the other issues.
DM 4: This song is worse than What Makes you Beautiful, Ne-yo's sounds half-drunk when he sings this song.
DM 5: I dislike Boyfriend much more than this one, I actually don't mind this song. Granted, I'm quite biased towards dubstep songs.
DM 6: Everything about this song is pure trash, my second least favorite song during this year.
DM 7: I found the Paula Abdul reference really clever; the rest of the song is semi-enjoyable.
    1. This is the worst song of 2012, and arguably the worst song of the decade.
