What I learned from Messi, he always in high focus on the ball, get ball close to body/feet, great first touch, avoid unnecessary touch or movements and fast reaction/thinking.
Yeah get the ball close to your foot and get each of your footsteps close to eachother.
Watch "Messi es un perro" by Hernan Casciari. It focuses on the hyper focus on the ball aspect.
