What a wonderful and motivating presentation! I remember a similar presentation given to my Incoming Class at Annapolis. That speaker at one point asked us as we sat their in that massive auditorium to glance at the person sitting to our left and also look at the person sitting on our right. He said that in four years, "One of you three will not still be here." Four years later we graduated 802 out of an Entering Class of just over 1200. He was on to something! *s/ Retired 24 Year US Navy submariner - USNA Class of 1965 - Former Enlisted Man* PS Since the early 1980s at Navy Retention has risen to approximately 85-87 %.
Well, you don't join, you are selected. The admission process has many steps. Acceptance to West Point requires an appointment by a member of Congress. You will have to write to your state Senators and your local member of Congress to start that process. There is a physical fitness test, a military physical, and a long written application. It might be digital now. It's been a while for me. Your academic record, participation in sports and leadership positions in extracurricular activities should be your focus in high school. However, in my experience, it is your inner motivation toward achievement, along with a sense of humor and humility, that will propel you to success. The big thing is to understand what West Point is looking for, then take a good look at yourself. Success at the Academy requires the full effort of a person who is fully devoted to self development for the purpose of a lifetime of service to our country. Good Luck!

West Point trains US Military Officers so you have to be a Us citizen to apply to West Point.... that is unless you're sent by your government. The US has agreements with certain foreign governments to train their officers.
Thank you for your service Robert McClure. That was a great speech.
