      Each ECU is linked to a specific key and ignition cylinder. You need to bring the ecu to a tuner to remove the immobilized

    Hi, please advise. I have a e30 318 that is running an m20 engine. Can I still use the same 318 gearbox, driveshaft and diff for my m50 swap?

    • @slightlyMADcustoms
      @slightlyMADcustoms  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can, but be aware that the m50 makes greater power than that little 318 trans and diff were designed to handle. If you’re building the car as a nice cruiser you’ll likely have no issues. But if you’re slamming through the gears, redlining, drifting then it’s probably not the best setup for that driving style

  • @nicholasescotto2627

    sweet vid! I was wondering in my e30 m50 swap my ecu is the red label 413 but is from a late 94 325i by looking up the VIN. Right now my e30 is having a no crank no start issue. I dont hear the fuel pump priming either. Is it possible my issue is EWS related as the donor is a 94 325i?

    • @slightlyMADcustoms
      @slightlyMADcustoms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a good working red label 413 ECU then the fuel pump should be priming. Doesn’t matter if it’s from 5 series or 3 series.
      The crank circuit isn’t apart of the ECU so I would look into that first.

  • @ChefAlexSocci

    sorry if this is a noobish question, but besides the obd2 removal and replacement chip removing ews from the m52 is there any other thing that would make the m52 more difficult to swap than the m50? Cheers, love your videos!

    • @slightlyMADcustoms
      @slightlyMADcustoms  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alex Socci Hey Alex, the nice thing about m50 ECUs is they have a chip that can be physically pulled out and swapped to delete EWS and get you some more power. With the m52 ECUS they need to be brought to a tuner and flashed to make any changes. Both options are certainly doable, but the m52 will most likely cost you more to get the engine up and running.

    I wanna know if a Bosch 2.8l wiring harness would work for a 2.5l iron block engine?

    • @slightlyMADcustoms
      @slightlyMADcustoms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All the sensors need to match the harness. So yes you can use whatever physical block you want, but make sure you also use all the sensors and emissions related stuff that is required for the different harness

    • @slightlyMADcustoms
      @slightlyMADcustoms  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Brian Collingwood The physical installation of the transmission is pretty straight forward, my understanding is you can use the crossmember from the e36. For the diff options you’ll need something most likely lower than what’s currently in your E30. The ZF does not have a overdrive unlike the E30 getrag. The key is to find the balance between something zippy off the line, but still decent highway cruising RPM. If you message me on Instagram or send me your email, I can send you some charts to compare what you’ll see for rpm with some different diff options

    • @slightlyMADcustoms

  • @marccaspersb7577
    @marccaspersb7577 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey man, love your video, this explains a lot to me, only question is; you were talking about a M20 (your previous engine i believe) are these things the same with M40’s?

    • @slightlyMADcustoms
      @slightlyMADcustoms  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Marc Caspers B Hey! The m20 motors were the 6cyl option for E30s from factory. M50/m52’s were the 6cyl option for the following generation of 3 series: the e36. Swapping from a m20 to m50/m52, is just swapping in the 6cyl engine from the E30s younger brother for the more modern technology and tuneability.
      Now BMW also offered a 4cyl option for their 3 series. For the e30, it was a m10. And for the e36, it’s the m40/m42.
      Hopefully that answers your question. If not you can message me on Instagram or Facebook!

Ive moved the ground wire that goes to the starter to each of the two positions where it could fit but now it's on the one with the 10mm nut. if i remove it the blower motor turns off. this leads me to think it's a power issue. any tips on what the problem could be?
