I'm in the middle of turbo charging my m40, so far its cost me less that $2000.....and that includes the log manifold, intercooler and a megasquirt, and it should be good for 250- 300hp
Plus 1000$ in you want a M50b25 stroke to 3.0L all you need is M54b30 pistons, rods and crank, and if you want more PAWA than the S50 engine you can use the M54b30 intake camshaft and reuse your M50 exhaust camshaft.
@@slightlyMADcustoms yea, kinda same. I bought a m52 engine with all the wiring and accsessories for 300 and then a oil pan with the dipstick for like 130 ( you can get a regular e36 oil pan for 20€). Everything used is really cheap.

M54 swap is SIMILAR but there’s a few more hurdles you’d have to jump through to get it all working. There’s some forum posts online explaining it all.
What about using the trans that comes with the M50? What driveshaft do you need then? I was planning on buying a E36 donor car and swapping everything over as my e30 is auto.

So basically the entire engine/transmission is kinda “plug and play” to the e30? I’m trying to make it sound less intimidating since it’s my first swap lol.

There is a slight power gain, but the larger factors for wanting to do the swap are reliability, affordability, and a better starting platform to make more power
Not at all in my opinion..the m52 with m3 cams and few other bolt ons is the least u should do in a e30 if u gonna do all thats work and drop thousands of dollars. I have s52 e30 with tons of upgrades and some power gains and still slowly getting over the power it has and will most likely supercharge it one day
I don’t really understand the kSeries swap. Why would you go through all that work to put in a 4cyl? I feel like while you’re already in there doing modifications you might as well put something bigger no?

It’s like 2 years later but I found a motor identical to this on marketplace. He said he has factory ecu but I assume this would need a standalone ?
There should be some shops that can work with the factory ECU. Otherwise a standalone will give you a lot more flexibility

Slap in a S50 cam, some nice headers, cold air intake + a tune and you’ll make 200whp easy peasy

I've never heard about turning down the back of the flywheel. Is this only when using the g260 trans?
When bolting the m20 flywheel to the m50/m52. theres one bolt that contacts the back of the flywheel if you didnt shave it down
