This is truly mindblowing, particularly Rupert's discussion of the third possibility of Self. I'm not sure I can fully apply this teaching to my daily life (the third stage). I can kind of see through the first two stages, however. For the first possibility, we identify most with our thoughts, feelings, and body, and believe our mind and awareness are a product of our brain - such that when we die, this "bodily machine" will cease to exist. And all of this exists in time, with a start and an end, a birth date and an expiration date. And this creates immense suffering and pain as we grasp and cling to life, and try to avoid death and bad things, and judge others for their faults and become defensive, insecure, and anxious, worrying what other people think about us, and becoming extremely ego-centric in the process while at the same time denying it. Somehow through the inner yearning of our heart, we seek something more beyond our suffering and pain. We seek higher things such as God, truth, love. We become spiritual seekers, yearning for liberation, enlightenment or salvation. We come into contact with a spiritual source or direction that knocks us free from this dream state momentarily. And we feel liberated to act and feel the intensity of this present moment. We sense something deeper, something deeper than our thoughts and emotions that are constantly running off, dragging us with them in their ego-centricity. We learn to identify less with these fleeting things, and learn to ground ourself more in a deeper space of awareness, present being, that is constant, unchanging...We may feel thoughts and emotions, but identify less with them. This naturally brings us greater peace and clearness to live our lives with increased stability and less neuroticism, less care about what others think about us, and more confidence in ourselves, and better strength to dis-identify with fears and negative emotions. This is more akin to the second stage Rupert is talking about, I believe. And yet the whole reason why we became spiritual seekers in the first place was not to loosen our ego but to strengthen it! We were seeking more happiness, more peace, a better life, less suffering. We were seeking to improve the state of our lives, seeking to add something more. (Is that not the definition of ego-strengthening!?) And this is where I feel the second possibility is lacking. We learn to identify more with this deeper space of awareness, but our thoughts and feelings still arise and we wonder if we are making any progress. And we keep letting them go, over and over again and return to the present moment. We feel stuck because by identifying ourselves with the present moment being, there is no progress to be made, and we live paradoxically, we live in time, with goals and aspirations for the future, but at the same time, we live out of time, by identifying ourselves as the present eternal being that is unchanging. And overall, we de-value the content of our lives (thoughts, feelings, experiences) and say to ourselves "oh that's not me, I am underneath all that, I am spacious eternal presence!". (I was drawn to watch this video because I felt like staying at the second possibility devalues the content of our lives. I have all these activities going on in my life but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter, because I am this present moment, the eternal presence of awareness. So in a way, it doesn't matter if I am happy or sad, rich or poor, because all of these things are temporal.) For Rupert's third possibility, it remains the most elusive but I think answers the problem posed by the second stage. For Rupert, we collapse the distinction between objects of awareness and awareness itself. The temporal content of our lives is no different from the eternal present being, in that the substance of temporal mind activity IS awareness itself! In the first stage, we believe in and identify with our temporality (body-mind). In the second stage, we believe in and identify more with the eternal space of present moment being, beyond fleeting emotion and thought. In the third stage, we collapse this distinction and state, all is one. According to Rupert, all is "luminous empty knowing". The value of this (I believe) is that it returns the importance of our ego-centricity we originally had in the first stage, and by accepting it as part of consciousness itself (not an illusory substance apart from consciousness), we see that the drama we call life and all the pains and sufferings are ONE with the eternal.

Thank you i am so grateful . That I have the opportunity to listen to such beautiful, truthful ,understandings .that they are coming from such a different angle it makes me feel that I’m perceiving them not mentally but beingwise. It does not give me no other choice except all of a sudden I find myself I am there . as Empty formless knowing that I am or It is thank you🙏

Thank you, this was the most clear 'step to step' guidance, and explanation, and so True to my own Experience. I strongly know that our lIfe is Meditation, and all is expression of it. ( Now I know bit more that that is first and foremost Expression of Pure Knowing Itself as Itself, Self as Self.
1 - Nothing but objects. 2 - I, awareness am aware of objects. 3 - It is all one. There are no objects I get to choose which point of view I adopt? 42'
We are completely free to choose whichever of these three possibilities we prefer?? Well, this is something i cannot grasp. I have the feeling that what happens, happens because it cannot not to happen. As an intrinsic necessity.
What we experience as choice of mind, intellect etc..are really choices? How it is possible to choose to be,at the level of body-mind,or at the level of awareness or knowing? These things just happen.
no u r missing the point...not only things what u mentioned, infact everything is knowing...pure awareness....its knowing in reality not any object so ultimately knowing remains unstained from any object as object is also knowing

A little baby with an ear ache, colic, or teething can't choose to not be the body-mind. They can't be reasoned with or taught that they aren't a separate self, so how does this work for them?
@doriesse824 I'm just attempting to quote from what I've heard. From birth, babies cannot separate themselves from experience. As they get older they begin the neti neti, unfortunately this process stops at the body mind. Apparently it is essential for this to be the case so that we can transcend the ego and return to non-duality now with the realisation of our true nature
