    I used an inlet box with removable knockouts that unscrewed. Thanks for sharing.

      That was helpful I'm sure. The ones you have to drill out and that are metal are a huge pain.

      @@JackofAllTrades1 You would think they would make electrical panels with removable knockouts too. Nothing like pounding around a metal box with a hammer and screwdriver with 200 amps nearby.

      @@wes326 haha... no kidding. I've felt that fear.

    L14-30, the inlets and cord you have, are twist lock.

    Nice review, I plan to install tomorrow. One thing though... No need to create new mounting holes in the box. They are behind the plastic screws that hold the front to the back of the box. Open the box, mount in the 4 corners then put box front on and done! Waterproof too since no hole drilled into the actual box.

      I just checked and you are right. I never noticed that. Good catch.

      @@JackofAllTrades1It would help if they included a general install instruction sheet with the box... I just finished my install a few minutes ago 👍

    Great video. I just had an interlock switch installed and have the receptacle mounted on the back of the house for connecting to my generator. When you plug into the receptacle how watertight is the receptacle-plug connection? Do I need some sort of cover box over the receptacle box in case I have a driving rainstorm or snowstorm?

      Hey Larry, thanks for the comment. I would say it is not 100 percent water tight but also not overly open and exposed. I don't think water would be an issue unless it has a chance of flooding. Or being in line of constant spray like a lawn sprinkler. If you were to get water intrusion it would just trip a breaker that you would then need to reset.

    I currently have a 4k generator that doesnt have a 240v outlet but I want to upgrade in a few years from now.
    Should I install a 50amp power inlet and use an adapter for now to future proof? Or is this unsafe?

    • @JackofAllTrades1

      This is something I did in my first house. I wanted to upgrade to 50 amps down the road but only had a 30 Amp generator at the time. For somebody in your shoes it is very important to keep track of what you are running and don't overload your generator. I would suggest that once you have your setup installed to never start your generator with all the breakers in the panel on.... matter of fact, start it with no load and then one by one turn on only the breakers you intend to use. You will have to figure up your own Amp draw from those appliances as everything in your panel will overload that little generator. Also, dont load it up 100% (the full 4k). I wouldn't do more than 80 or 90%. Know that if your gen doesn't put out 240 volts (rather only one phase, 120 volts) that it won't run things like a 240 volt clothes dryer. Let me know if you have any more questions. Your best chance to find those adapters is online or an RV store.

    The lid screws on the Gforit are a big deal for me. If the interlock fails by some wild reason and mains voltage ends up on the generator inlet prongs, the screws will keep a curious 3 years old from sticking his fingers in there.

    • @JackofAllTrades1
      @JackofAllTrades1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true... that interlock keeps the inlet box from becoming a death trap. Thanks for the comment.
