I really enjoy using Repeating shotgun and it is actually my first choice when it comes to PVE and sometimes even in PVP. I bought Rolling Block because of your video on the sniper comparison. Im a lvl 65 now, started to play rdr online about a month ago or so. My main characteristic, when looking for a weapon, is its pvp capability. Not because i plan to play the silly PvP modes, ive realised PvP is a joke pretty early and your videos proofed me right. I just want to be able to fight back the people who attack me in free-roam. Sniping is gonna be dominant, i knew that pretty early - ive played GTA-online and knew that ground fighting means to SNIPE and i was really good at it in GTA - and again, your videos proofed me right. Ive had like 4-5 pvp encounters in RDR free roam since i had more than just the cheap beginner weapons, and used the rolling block to fight back. I won all of them, by a count of propably 3-1 ratio. The GTA sniping skills were definately helpful. Destroyed many tryhard egos, when they challenged me for the ''beach-wobbling'', which to them, was THE best way to proove their GTA skill. Now you say, that carcano is even better? First i was disappointed, because i spent like 500 dollars on the rolling block, but if Carcano means, ill perform even better, maybe i should be thankfull. You provide, what rockstar is failing to do: giving even new players a reason to actually EARN money, to spend it for things that are fun. Your humor is great, i love the stoic, sarcastic attitude. Keep at it, ill watch your stuff even after i quitted the game. And to the sentimental, horse loving drinker player type of you i say: Prost.
I've found that the litchfield repeater with a scope on it can one-shot any npc in pve from the stomach up.... personally, it's on the same level as the lancaster for me
Great video. My go to loadout has been the carcano rifle for range, Lancaster for mid, and navy/ w sawed off for mid to close. You've listed why very well and I like you include explanations for why you use what in pve as it can be good to mix it up and have fun.
Real talk, the bolt action and pump action have been my main workhorse weapons more or less since I got them. Bolt action covers mid to long range combat, and is a great all rounder type weapon, and is available pretty early. The pump action is just the best shotgun tho. It has less of a fire rate than the semi auto, obviously. But it out DPS's it in almost every situation. The sure stop, accept no substitutes. In regards to handguns, I always run either navy revolvers, or a pair of sawed off's for that quad barrel rush. PvE, PvP, or hunting, the loadout of Bolt action, pump action, and whatever handguns you prefer will always work well.
I find the springfield best for overall pvp and pve its capable of having the fastest bloom reset due to the sole fact of it having only one in the chamber and due to the reload speed increase in a update a year back it surpasses the bolt action in spades due to reload speed accuracy damage and range
I just want to say thank you for these videos. I am learning a lot about the game and the various layers of excitement it has to offer. And most of all I am learning how to protect myself from unexpected situations. You are the best. ❤
I think you nailed it but for me the most "fun" weapon is the elephant gun in PVE. I use it when rolling up on a trader delivery when there is any type of gunfight whether or not I'm on horseback....well I guess I use for anything actually. Its just fun to use it IMHO....impractical as it is.
I don't call auto-targeting or hacking your opponents' aim "skill", more like cheating. Atleast with S&S it is straightforward in engagements & has clear the vulnerability of moving slow like a juggernaut. There are several ways of engaging S&S but PiB & SB is basically needed to face against each other.
Regardless, I avoid PvP as much as possible so that I don't have to deal with Deadeye abilities that drastically changes my way of playing the game. Good ol' auto aim & bloom control is all I will accept in engagements.
Rolling block is completely different from Carcano. You can't shoot Carcano unscoped. I use RBR primarily, I get one shot kills all the time (I don't use PIB...just a personal thing, except on Legendary and sometimes when I play PVP for Daily Challenges). I find it so much more reliable than any of the Repeaters.
just wanna say-It might not be the most practical, but the elephant rifle is unargueably the most fun weapon in rdo and also the highest damaging I believe, people seriously underestimate how much overpowered bullshit it can do in pvp, its essentially playable in the same way as the double barrel shotgun, when you get to that close range, one shot is devastating, except now that one shot is guranteed to kill whatever you're firing at, AND has a funny fall effect
@@gameaddictkhan177 However repeaters are more or less useless in PvP in my experience, I never find myself shooting with a repeater because of the outer bloom of the little dot, shotguns are best for close and snipers mid to far. Repeaters are more or less exclusive to PvE.
@@gameaddictkhan177 Eh, I play Defensive all the time so Paint It Black is fucking useless to me. Even if I didn’t, I don’t like PIB anyway; in the time it takes me to line up the shot and get a tag on the head, I could’ve already gotten a free aim headshot. As for the Lancaster, I don’t use it. Evans has only a little less fire rate, reload speed and accuracy, none of which matter if you can hit good headshots, but the twenty-six rounds far outweighs the pitiful fourteen of the Lancaster. Overall, shotguns are devastating for getting a quick close-quarters kill and Carcano is good for getting those one- and two-shot kills from other distances.
I know this was posted 9 months ago, but I just started RDO (full solo play, pure pve) and this list really helped. I also like in the comments that there are so many people mentioning their own favorites and why they like them. Makes me realize there are many options to choose from, which is good. Again I literally JUST started, so I'm only rank 10 and barely know wth I'm doing lol. Don't even have the gold to start a role yet. Only new weapon I've bought so far is the Varmint rifle, but I'm excited to see what I'll be able to use later down the line. I'm mouse/keyboard with no lock on, so I may end up with Carcano or Rolling Block for long range, and sawed off shotguns for close. Bow for hunting.
@@bayoak Not playing anymore and no idea what my level is. Pretty sure it's over 100 though. Beautiful game and I enjoyed my time with it, but after hearing there were no plans to bring more content to the game I kinda lost the desire to hop in as much as I used to sadly. Haven't played since mid summer. I think I did everything but moonshining though. Bounty Hunting was my favorite for sure and I ended up switching between kb/m and controller eventually because I tried lock on and suddenly the game got ALOT more enjoyable lol, so I used whichever was the most comfortable for what I was doing at the time. Either way, fun game but I've moved on.
My pvp/bounty hunting loadout: Duel Navy Revovlers or Sawn Offs Lancaster Repeater Pump Action Shotgun My hunting loadout: Sawn Off Shotgun Bolt Action Rifle Bow or Varmint Rifle Griefer Proof Loadout: Mauser Pistol (for headshots) Rolling Block Rifle with Express Rounds Pump Action Shotgun (Explosive rounds) Ability Loadout Paint it Black Strange Medicine Winning Streak To Live Another Day
I usually run, Lancaster, Carcano, dual Navy or Lemat's. I like the Lemat's even though their less damage , for the on the fly shotgun when close. But 1 thing i think deserves a honorable Mention is the Bolt Action Rifle, Yes it doesnt hit as hard as the Rolling block or Carcano, But Its the 1 rifle you can use paint it black with; which can be helpful in situations.
The only weapons that are on my horse for over a year now is the Evans (for PvE encounters), Lancaster, Varmint Rifle, Carcano, Double barrel Shotgun, Advanced bow and dual Mausers. Ability build: PiB, Iron Lung, NwO, and Peak Condition. I don't see any of that changing anytime soon.
@R4NG3R That was my ability stack for the longest time. Then doing my own personal testing I realized that the few extra shots you can take wasn't a bigger advantage than dealing MUCH more damage. Especially at range. Practice making yourself much harder to hit. Would be my unsolicited advice.
I feel like I am the only person who appreciates the strengths of the Carbine Repeater...in that it technically has no strengths outside the fastest reload of all the repeaters in game, but even then, its stats are well balanced across the board, and special ammo tends to help make up where it falls off in places when needed. Alongside the Carbine I typically run Lowry's Revolver (Navy Revolver) with a standard Navy Revolver or a Volcanic, and the Bolt-Action Rifle or Repeating Shotgun, mostly for PvE.
Yep agree with pretty much all of that. I don’t use rolling block anymore, or any other shotgun except Automatic . The sawn off in pvp I struggle with and I seem to get better results with semi auto pistols as the other player seems unable to respond (stunned) when shit with a pistol. Also the range is better. Carcano is op.
Dual sawed-offs are GREAT for wrecking anyone who tries to run up on you around a corner/doorway or thinks they can tackle/lasso you. If you are patient and use terrain/infrastructure, a lot of players will kamikaze your position and you can unload 4 close-range shells in milliseconds.
Hay PVPCat Great video. Love the collab podcasts. Would you ever do one with multiple TH-camrs? Love to hear Joyers97 and Hazard tearing into AustinBMX lol 😆
You only have 1 choice of weaponry to hunt small game animals and for delicate animals if you want pristine pelts/carcasses. But when hunting anything medium to massive, I prefer the Springfield Rifle as it will yield a pristine pelt/carcass each time provided you get a clean kill. One other choice that will only work under limited circumstances will be your lasso and knife when hunting. As for melee weapons, the sawed off 12 gauge and the shotguns do the trick. For stealthy melee, throwing knives, tomahawks, and arrows are also my favorite. The cool thing about this game is that you can try anything and determine your favorite weaponry from it.
Springfield doesn't give perfect pelts for medium animals like coyotes and things. If you study the animal it tells you what to use to get a clean kill. Big animals rifle, medium is repeaters and small is a Varmint but there are small animals that a Varmint will destroy like a squirrel which need a small game arrow.
I use it to hunt panthers and cougars but without a scope or PIB. It gives a bit of a thrill. The huge upside is that it's easy to aim and you won't ruin the carcass.
I always use the springfield to hunt Alligators. Shoot the eye of the alligator and most of the time you’ll get a perfect alligator carcass, takes only one shot to kill them too.
Rockstar pretty much screwed the good old pooch for weapons in the game. The Navy Revolver in the game is based on a 1851 revolver. It was cap and ball. This means you had to load a paper cartridge with a .36 caliber ball into each cylinder ram it down each time. Then you had to cover each cylinder with grease to prevent a chain fire. This means each cylinder ignites at the same time blowing your hand off. Then you had to but a firing cap on each nipple for your spark. Same with the cheap LeMatt Revolver. The best revolver in the game should be what they call the cattleman which is the Colt .45. This is the gun that won the west.
Hey PVPCat have you or could you do a video on controller settings for RDO? Most videos I can find on it are quite old, and I'd like to see if top tier players have any suggestions since the game has changed. Cheers for all the great RDO videos.
my Go-To PvE Repeater is the Carbine. what it lacks in Ammo it makes up Tremendously in Reload Speed. plus with Paint it Black the Accuracy isnt half bad.
I recommend watching the entire video because he has very important and valid reasons as to why he picked one of the firearms listed below and which one is more effective than the other. 1. Carcano Rifle 2. Lancaster Repeater 3. Mauser Pistol 4. Sawed-Off 5. Varmint Rifle 6. Navy Revolver 7. Rolling Block Rifle 8. Semi-Auto Shotgun 9. Bow 10. Springfield Rifle
Great video. Very good info. I agree with the list. Other than the Varmint rifle. I leave that one on my horse. Use the bow instead. I skip the naturalist daily challenges because I am too lazy to switch to the varmint rifle. Plus I will not go visit Harriet anyway. Ever since they put in that stupid change into an animal feature I just will not go visit her anymore.... 🤣😂
I'm at level 19 naturalist and as soon as I'm at level 20 I will never use varmint rifle again. I resent having to do all of that stupid role just to unlock the bigger tonics satchel lol
I like that my favorite gun is in second place! I picked it up in story mode because I learned somewhere that it was a real western favorite called 'yellow boy'. And it just works so well, feels very accurate with fast lock.
Really enjoying this videos mate. Always give them a watch before loading up and seeing what's what. Also glad you've vindicated my choice in revolver. Painting the metal black or blue, with mahogany grip and copper edging gives it that wicked cool Civil War look.
Another reasons why springfield is better than for example carcano or rbr for hunting is because you can use a scope or no scope and when a 3 star cougar is running at you, you don't want a scope
I personally like the double barrel more than the semi-auto since it just feels better in pvp and pve, but I will admit that thing shreds when hunting legendary animals!
Actually.. i use the navy revolver for almost everything... dispite the fact i manually aim and also that i forget to clean it sometimes... It's really accurate, yep
I typically Run 1 volcanic 1 lemat. Rolling block, and semi-auto. I was thinking of trading the rolling block for a carcano but idk. I play a lot of call to arms with friends, and this set up ensures that I don't run out of ammo ever.
I like how in this game , even if ofc there are better weapons , they all feel different , so not everyone uses the same and you are not especially in disadvantage because you are not using the best weapon . For example I prefer Schofields for handguns and pump action shotgun over semi auto shotgun and I don’t have a hard time playing the game at all
yeah fr. I played my first 100 levels with nothing but a bow, machete, throwables and a single navy revolver(since u cant unequip sidearm) despite this no-gun loadout i could still fuck people in pvp if necessary and it wound up making the game so fun. Now i use the Navy, pump action, and bow, still limited but definitely more flexible.
@@Sweatedsiren895 But you said that the trench cant destroy legendaries as fast as A5, and I said that it can. Personally I dont like A5 cause i dont use PIB (only in pvp and there if I use shotguns I use the sawed off) and the accuracy of the A5 is pretty bad
Swapped to Carcano Rifle from Bolt Action rifle just cause of the Feel of the power, fire rate and The Sound Makes the weapon Just Beautiful. The Menacing BOOM makes me feel like I'm using an AM Rifle.
i feel like im the only one who hates the "paint it black" abillity for a start it dosent paint it black it paints it red.... second i find if i set my aim to wide and flick up i score head shots 100% in a second. thrid paint it black (red) you have to keep your crosshier on the target for a second to paint it.... when you could have scored a head shot in half the time with wide aim. my point is you will lose the 20 exp from free aim witch is a considarable amount of exp in the long run but you do free up an abillity slot for not using the trash abillity that is paint it black (red) all the while scoreing faster kills easier kills. i bught the game on release but online at the time on its resease was plain arful and full of free roam PVP greifers so i gave up till a week ago im lvl 36 and got my paint it black to lvl 2 but hated it. the ability load out i plan to usin is..... slow and steady, iron lung, nesessity breeds, winning streak. this i believe wont be top tier but will fit my tanky playstyle.
yeah I dont use dead eye at all. I always forget. The PIB trick is just to spam the paint button as you swing by someone in your view and let it tell you that youve locked on. I see lots of people do this at distance & so it negates having to hit the fire button at the exact time-esp if someone is diving or weaving. Even more important when playing free-aim (as Vlad/PVPCat does most of the time)

I really enjoy using Repeating shotgun and it is actually my first choice when it comes to PVE and sometimes even in PVP. Idk why but something about it feels different to me specially when you fire consecutive shots. My build is Two Schofield revolvers with the Gunslinger's choice, Carcano rifle or bolt action sometimes and Repeating shotgun.
Edit: I don't normally play PVP.
it feels “powerful” lol i like the repeating shotgun a lot.
Why need a shotgun to one hit people when u can headshot people

Good to see you have recovered after being sick.
What's your level
Bruh I wasn't surprised to see the varmint rifle, I actually use it in pvp with sedative rounds just to mess around
Used to be the meta in pvp for a reason.
@Yes Yes : One sure hase nothing to tell or say, if only speaking when asked.
@@ElBoutre Carcano is good at any in-game activity , but if you are good at Rolling Block, it should not be a problem about using Carcano
Fun fact: you can lasso a dear ram and like most medium sized animals and kill them without damaging the pelt
Damn good list man! I do have to say though, when you have "gunslingers choice" equipped, two double action revolvers are amazing.
True
@@PVPCat Thanks! Your approval actually really means a lot! I was worried my love of the double action revolver was just me being bias haha

Love the title saying best weapons in 2024 yet it was uploaded 3 years ago in 2024
That's because the best weapons have not changed.
I've found that the litchfield repeater with a scope on it can one-shot any npc in pve from the stomach up.... personally, it's on the same level as the lancaster for me
Surprised you didn't include the Pump Action and Repeating shotguns, they're amazing
I had too choose only one big shotgun and I mostly use Semi-auto because of leg animals
True.
Can't wait for the next Cat Podcast. Miss ya and glad to hear that you are feeling much better.
It was THIS thumbnail that made me buy red dead 4 years ago…you made the weapon look so beautiful
Great video. My go to loadout has been the carcano rifle for range, Lancaster for mid, and navy/ w sawed off for mid to close. You've listed why very well and I like you include explanations for why you use what in pve as it can be good to mix it up and have fun.
Best choices mate 😃
My loadout is Carcano rifle, then Lancaster repeater and then two LeMat revolvers
I go with the same bolt, pump, navy. The bolt works great and with a scope to toggle works as a sniper for me.
Same here.
Stoked to see you back on track with these vids Cat, keep it up
Best weapons in 2024, uploaded 3 years ago. What?
Good point lol but there hasn’t been an update since
I think you nailed it but for me the most "fun" weapon is the elephant gun in PVE. I use it when rolling up on a trader delivery when there is any type of gunfight whether or not I'm on horseback....well I guess I use for anything actually. Its just fun to use it IMHO....impractical as it is.
Yeah, it's fun 🙂
I love using it crouched on top of a boulder and you roll backwards into cover
Basically, all you need is top 2 weapons and Varmint. Navy or Sawed off is just a nice finishing touch.
Mauser or Sawed off*
PiB this, PiB that... Ppl who have such heavy reliance on it & Slippery Bastard for every engagement makes me roll my eyes...
It's more skill then being able to eat 30 shots with slow and steady
I don't call auto-targeting or hacking your opponents' aim "skill", more like cheating. Atleast with S&S it is straightforward in engagements & has clear the vulnerability of moving slow like a juggernaut. There are several ways of engaging S&S but PiB & SB is basically needed to face against each other.
Regardless, I avoid PvP as much as possible so that I don't have to deal with Deadeye abilities that drastically changes my way of playing the game. Good ol' auto aim & bloom control is all I will accept in engagements.
I played with the varmint rifle back when online first came out, good times
Rolling block is completely different from Carcano. You can't shoot Carcano unscoped. I use RBR primarily, I get one shot kills all the time (I don't use PIB...just a personal thing, except on Legendary and sometimes when I play PVP for Daily Challenges). I find it so much more reliable than any of the Repeaters.
You can’t shoot the rolling block unscoped either??
you cant shoot rolling block unscoped either lmfao??
just wanna say-It might not be the most practical, but the elephant rifle is unargueably the most fun weapon in rdo and also the highest damaging I believe, people seriously underestimate how much overpowered bullshit it can do in pvp, its essentially playable in the same way as the double barrel shotgun, when you get to that close range, one shot is devastating, except now that one shot is guranteed to kill whatever you're firing at, AND has a funny fall effect
My personal loadout is dual sawed-offs, Evans repeater and Carcano with a one-shot sniper build. It does good in PvP and PvE in my experience.
You must be a very skillful player
@@gameaddictkhan177 Not really, I just use what I use and it works well.
@@gameaddictkhan177 However repeaters are more or less useless in PvP in my experience, I never find myself shooting with a repeater because of the outer bloom of the little dot, shotguns are best for close and snipers mid to far. Repeaters are more or less exclusive to PvE.
@@AkstekizeHyperyze for me Lancaster with paint it black is extremely deadly 🥰
What's your level now? Still playing?
“Sword of shotguns”
“Mouse or pistol”

Thanks I enjoy these vids, they’re so helpful; love the semi-auto shotgun it’s my fave. Have a great 2021 😀
Well mine fav also semi-auto
I usually run, Lancaster, Carcano, dual Navy or Lemat's. I like the Lemat's even though their less damage , for the on the fly shotgun when close. But 1 thing i think deserves a honorable Mention is the Bolt Action Rifle, Yes it doesnt hit as hard as the Rolling block or Carcano, But Its the 1 rifle you can use paint it black with; which can be helpful in situations.
This is lit. Been searching for a great video like this 🔥🔥🔥
@@danm1108 yeah most of these are shit

Why you gotta hurt me like this, Cat?
😭
@@MullahElvis just buy them all Except the “Rare Shotgun”
The best dual weapons to use is the navy revolver and the mauser because the navy takes players health then the mauser finishes the opponent
Hay PVPCat Great video. Love the collab podcasts. Would you ever do one with multiple TH-camrs? Love to hear Joyers97 and Hazard tearing into AustinBMX lol 😆
I was thinking about it 🙂
@@PVPCat you are my hero
Sawed off is Sidearm , not Melee
Springfield doesn't give perfect pelts for medium animals like coyotes and things. If you study the animal it tells you what to use to get a clean kill. Big animals rifle, medium is repeaters and small is a Varmint but there are small animals that a Varmint will destroy like a squirrel which need a small game arrow.
I’m going to give the Springfield rifle for hunting a shot now based on this video.
And yes the Mauser kicks ass
It fuckin slaps
Put your dead zone all the way down for starters on both 1st and 3rd person. Then I’d recommend just adjusting it from there till your comfortable.

3. Mauser Pistol
4. Sawed-Off
5. Varmint Rifle

Even more important when playing free-aim (as Vlad/PVPCat does most of the time)
I actually like the rolling block more than the carcano, something about the reload and firerate just feels better to me.
I prefer the Rolling Block over the Carcano because I find the Carcano seems to miss a lot, even when I get a red dot. My Rolling Block never misses.
I'm so used to calling rdr2 weapons with hunt showdown weapon's names lmfao. So I was like wtf is that gun?! ohhh it's Crown and King....
