    Hi! First, you're awesome!! Loving the channel.
    For other projects, I go to my local yard waste refuse in my city. I find logs that people cut down, take them home, use a chainsaw to cut discs, let them dry for a year, then sand them down. Lots and lots of beautiful free wood.
    Just an idea for others...
    I am learning a lot from your channel, and am very happy to be a fan.

      That is an awesome idea!! Thanks for sharing! My only suggestion would be to make sure you’re wearing a respirator when burning these in case any toxins have gotten into the wood because of its location.

    Hi , great video. If you buy from a sawmill or lumber yard...just make sure its KILNED DRIED .

    I think the reason some people use pallet wood or scrap wood is if they also do woodworking and want to combine it with woodburning to add an artistic flair to their woodworking projects.

    Thank you for this video. A lot of good info…I’m trying to find birch in sheets like 8x10 or around that size but have no clue if the stuff they sell on Etsy is safe to burn. Do you know where I can find birch canvas or sheets that are safe for pyrography? Some people tell me it’s okay to burn Baltic birch then some say it’s not.🤷🏼‍♀️

      Some people won't burn birch plywood, which is typically how I see birch in stores. I've never personally had a problem with it, but it's always a good idea to be ventilated and wear a respirator when you're not sure about the wood. If you are looking specifically for 8x10 birch, you may have to cut it to that size. I have found 10x10 and 12x12 sheets of birch ply, but I've never seen 8x10. The most economical way is probably to buy the 2' x 4' birch sheets at lowes or home depot and cut 8x10 pieces out of it.

      @@Pyrocrafters thank you for taking time to answer my question…I’m sure you get that a lot. I burn a lot on the birch live edge rounds. And I just love the way it burns…didn’t know if they came in canvases or sheets. I’m still fairly new and your the reason I started pyrography. You are an incredible artist…🙏🏻🥰👍🏻❤️

    She doesn’t talk about exhaust fans , a carbon filter table fan works great!

    I can go to a lumber yard but most of that would need to be planed flat....that is my challenge, Finding different woods other that basswood, maybe a bit of poplar that don't need surfacing, just cutting down and prep sanding. Is it that most people are using plywood rather than solid wood?

    • @Pyrocrafters
      @Pyrocrafters  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly, wood from a lumber yard is going to require equipment like sanders, table saws, transport, etc…. Most pyrographers I know use premade canvases like the ones walnut hollow makes. If you get on social media channels and look at what others are using, those types of canvases seem to be the majority.
      But it doesn’t have to be that way. Solid wood is a better way to go, in my opinion.

    Cedar is available in our area and I’m curious if anyone has done any burning on this type of wood and rather or not it needs to dry , like pine ?

    • @Pyrocrafters
      @Pyrocrafters  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Shelly! I've never burned cedar. Here's a video with links in the description about burning on different types of wood. There may be some info specifically about cedar: th-cam.com/video/ZETaN_S7Tqk/w-d-xo.html

    Do you know where you can buy something to wrap around the pen, as I just keep burning my fingers lol

      @Pyrocrafters  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't recommend wrapping the pen with anything. I'm not sure what damage that would do. The heat may damage the material or the wand. I can recommend finger protection though. I like these finger guards: amzn.to/2TYtxub
      However, any type of heat resistant glove you like will work. Some artists use those silicone grill gloves. I prefer the guards because they are easy to get off.

    Is a N95 good to be used as mask?

    • @Pyrocrafters
      @Pyrocrafters  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It probably helps, but the best option is a respirator with a sealed face mask. Check this out: th-cam.com/video/ZETaN_S7Tqk/w-d-xo.html
      And then jump to minute 6:32 for the info. Thanks!!
