Tanners german has improved quite a bit! He seems to be less "shy" to speak it and his pronunciation has gotten way more...ummm.. german. Well done! Keep it up!
Germany is so beautiful! The history of the buildings... They are so beautiful! When I was in Bremen I was amazed at the beauty of the buildings with so much artwork! The countryside is just ..wow! Thanks for the wonderful video. I love all the food!
I'm strangely happy for you that the Käsespätzle were as good, if not better, as you'd hoped. There's a very unique, almost painful, sense of disappointment when a meal you remember as amazing doesn't live up to your expectations.
Great video as always. Today I have started watching videos from where I left off. I have a lot to catch and thank you for sharing your beautiful moments
7:45 Its not limited to bavarian, in Austria they do this as well, normally on the first of May. There is even more tradition going on before, because each village try to steal the tree from each other, so you have to guard it the night(week) before, but not in a bad sense but the village that lost the tree has to pay in beer.
Those places are so worth seeing. Be to all of them a few times and every time I go, I see something new. The key is the time of the year to go. For me late Sept. to Oct.( less tourists ) is the best time to go.Love the German countryside and it's people.
Thanks to Covid in last the years we have been to Mittenwald three times..and liked it!The Karvendel mountains on one side,Wetterstein on the other.Enough for a week of hiking
My heart belongs in Oberammergau having lived there in my early teens and do hope you get to visit. Not unusual to hear English in Garmisch as there's a large DoD recreation facility there and a small contingent at the Kassern. Happy travels. We'll be in the area in the Fall attending the Passionspiele.
Zugspitze is absolutely worth the hype. My son and I rented sleds last time we were there and had an absolute blast. I could spend all day up there on a clear day.
What you should definitely see is the Oberallgäu. The area around the alpine village "Oberstdorf", embedded in the Allgäu Alps. Right next door is the "Kleine Walsertal" which already belongs to Austria but can only be reached via Germany. Also great in summer the "Allgäuer Seenland" offers great bathing lakes. And finally, not far from the Allgäu, is the largest German lake, Lake Constance. Everything is super touristically developed and also offers a lot of fun for children.
Another amazing video and place to visit! We may end up following you guys around! 😂 I'm just glad we're past the days of carrying around the kids in the packs. I remember those days - I was in better shape then!
Good morning ☺. A very nice videos again. Yes, Germany has lots to offer. About dialects....in northern Germany you'll hardly find a person who speaks a dialect. About Oberammergau the Passionsspiele take place just ervery 10 year, and stopped because of covid. We'll be there in August. My husband wanted to see that once in his life. Have a nice sunday.
Thank you so much for letting us take part in your travels. I love the views and foodiness, and everytime I see you guys enjoying food I start planning on what to cook :) (Never made käsespätzle myself gotta give it a try :D )
At the beginning we were in Fussen when we explored the castle. 😊 You can watch this other video of our time there to get a better idea of what it’s like there. th-cam.com/video/IsEpVWiHXO8/w-d-xo.html We hope you enjoy your time if you end up going 😊
@@OurStorytoTell Nice Video! Of the three cities (Füssen, Mittenwald and Garmisch), which would you recommend for a day and a half stay? It would be mostly city walking stuff. As much as I like hiking, I don’t think we wouldn’t have time for it
You have now seen and experienced more of Germany than most Germans have; cool! Still, you have the north to experience yet. ...and it is VERY different from Bavaria in the south and from the Ruhr in the West. By next year you can be German tour guides!!! Bitte Schoen.
Hey guys, yes that is a beautiful area to visit. I actually spent 10 days around there last October. The Partnachklamm was very impressive and a good workout. The Zugspitze is probably more fun with some snow. I'm sure you and Willa would also enjoy Bertchesgaden with a visit to the salt mine. Near there in Austria is also an ice cave (Eisriesenwelt) that is pretty "cool"🤪. Die you mention the name and location of the restaurant you visited with the great Käsespätzle? I didn't catch it.
The name of the restaurant is: Alpstuben Buching e.K., Inh. Robert Kerner It’s not far from Füssen in the town of Buchin. The barbecue plate was also delicious 🤤 Thanks for the recommendations! We have seen the sign for the ice cave and thought that would be a fun experience sometime. Happy Sunday!
Usually Americans "from Garmisch" can fill gas at us prices in their army base... did you go there too? It's huge in Garmisch, the town is full of Americans that live there and next time.. go to Höllentalklamm in Grainau (much more beautiful and impressive than Garmisch Klamm) and hike up to Eibsee too
love your work. How is Willows German? If you plan a tour around Upper Bavaria, Berchtesgaden in, Germany, near the Austrian border has the Schellenberg Ice Cave, and The Eagles Nest, well worth a visit. You must pick the season however. Bus ride back down the mountain is a definite video.
It was great meeting you again too! Yes, lots of rain that weekend, but there was a few hours of sunshine luckily :). The May poles are really tall, I can imagine it was a long load!
Nice video - would be helpful if you translated some of the signs, menus etc. Was the bus for going up to the castle? It says online it is a 40 min walk from the town.
One thing in my time in bavaria ill never ever forget, was to hike/climb up the Zugspitze. We took the way throu the Höllentalklamm. It was defenetly one of my best outdoor experience that I ever had. So Risa and Tanner, you are looking very fit .... Just an idea. 😊
I just thought: you might want to go to Kassel this summer for the “Documenta”. I’m bad at explaining, but the whole city is a exhibition and also Wilhelmshöhe is pretty (when there’s good weather 😄).
Was the inside of Neuschwanstein not worth mentioning? I find it very impressive. Maybe taking pictures or filming are forbidden there? Or did you visit the place for a second time - again without visiting the castle interiors? That's almost unbelievable! The South of Bavaria is really a wonderful region! So beautiful, but also full of tourists. Btw, you often upload videos which have been made several weeks earlier. It would be really nice and often helpful if you mentioned the date, at least the month of the journeys you are showing. You went to Neuschwanstein during bad weather, but the weather in May has been really great so far. I hoped you enjoyed the "Wonnemonat Mai" with the almost exploding Vegetation! Tree blossoms, meadow flowers and all these wonderful azaleas and rhododendrons. And the yellow rapeseed fields and broom bushes! So beautiful!
The accent is there obviously but all things being equal that was some really good German, Tanner! Keep at it. I'm sure in a couple of months little Willa can teach you a thing or too. :)
Actually "Maibaumstellen" is not only a bavarian tradition. You have seen the Eifel region already. Putting up a Maibaum is a big deal there as well. In many villages the job has to be done by the local "bachelor club" with the help of firefighters. After the Maibaum is up, it must be guarded and defended against the bachelor club from the neighbor village. All this comes with gallons of beer and bbq. Here in Rheinland boys/men put up a small decorated Maibaum (tall birch branch with ribbons) in font of their girl's home/window the night before first of May. Nice traditions...
That's "our castle" and today through Sunday they're having a Renn Faire. Also, the first weekend in June. I think the horse games are in a nearby field though.
If you are in Garmisch-Partenkirchen you need to try the Wolpertinger restaurant. Oh! And there is a recreational hotel of the US forces, that might be the reason that you meet so many of them.
Did you say you maybe come to northern Germany again? It‘s so beautiful here and the islands of the north sea are defenitely a must see. And visit Lübeck!
I’m really surprised to hear you say you hear a lot of Americans in Garmisch. I’m planning a trip there next month, and am finding that tourism office publications and newsletters are in German only, as is GaPa Instagram. I’ve been reaching back decades trying to retrieve my college German, but it’s still hard. I’ve assumed that they aren’t wooing Americans or Britons, and didn’t expect to have much company (not a bad thing, but I wish solid planing information we’re easier to come by)
Ooh we hope you have since found some good plans!! We really enjoyed our time there and know you will too! We think there's a lot of info out there from Americans living in Garmisch, but we also know that it might be hard to find if you don't know where to look/are a part of the expat community. Have such a great time in Bavaria!! :)
@@OurStorytoTell oh, we have a wish list that’s too long for our trip, even if every day is clear and sunny. I suspect that this will be the first of many trips there. Actually, it’s sort of a second trip. We were in Ehrwald in 2016, and spent a rainy few hours wandering GaPa, and decided then that a return was in order. Thanks for your videos!
Hello Willas family, what wonderful places, Garmisch and Mittenwald. A very good recommendation! One can really see your joy. If you want to get to know all the beautiful places in 🇩🇪, you have to stay here for a very long time. 😊 Preferably forever. 😁😁 😇 Another suggestion for You: If you are ever again in the „Ruhr area“. Visit Oberhausen (30 km from Bochum). Visit the landmark of the city. The "Gasometer" (117 m high) - with an exhibition and a wonderful view if you make it to the top. 😁 Right next door (1.2 km away) the "Centro Promenade" with water canal and lots of fish. There you can sit outside nicely in summer, eat something or go for a walk. With 47 restaurants (indoors and outdoors along the promenade), bars, ice cream cafes, bakeries and so on. For example: Lousiana (USA), Don Carlos (Spain); Haiky (Asia), Tijuana (Mexico), Franciscan (Alpland), etc.! There is also the underwater world "Sea Life" with rays, turtles, starfish, etc. (for children and parents). And the "Legoland" next door (for children and parents). The swimming paradise "Aquapark" (indoor/outdoor) with swimming and slides. The 🏰 "Schloss Oberhausen", in the middle of the city, with the "Kaisergarten". A picturesque park with petting zoo for children! 🙋🏼♂️ BTW...do you visit the "Münchener-Oktober-Fest" this year❓
Yes its Germanys postcard region. Maibäume - maytrees are a very old, authentic tradition in Bavaria. By the way - President Biden and his stuff are here in the region, at June. Its the G7 summit in Elmau.
Info for Tanner: Of you are thinking to Cross the alps by feet, you can do this from Mittenwald to Brixen within several days. Check „Alpinschule-Oberstdorf“ for a guided Tour.
I was hoping someone in the comments would differentiate the two types of Quarkbaellchen for me. I know both the cinammon kind that are perfectly round and the powdered sugar kind that are rough in shape. Are there different terms I can use so I know which is which?
Hi there, I am sure pricess Willa felt home when you visited new swanstein again. Yes, touring through the alpine area in this part of Germany is very nice. Btw, didnt catch the name of the recommended Restaurant. Please let us know ! As there are so many hiking trails around I am sure once you come back on a sunny day to get up to the highest mountain in Germany. Good to see you also stopped in Oberammergau which is also known for the birthplace of the art painting on houses. Its called Lüftlmalerei(catchword for Wiki to get more info about or even for mama google to see more pics). Seems you have been to Mittenwald on 1st of may, are you. Well, its not only a tradition in Bavaria to raise a pole called Maibaum. Every smaller town, village did the same and the pole is guarded for a while cause there is another tradition, mostly in smaller village. The neighbour village tries to steel the pole and hiding it for while and the owner village have to pay sort of ransom money, mostly in terms of litres of beer to support a party. Btw, once you are in this area again and come along Berchtesgaden, dont miss a visit to the underground salt mine. Yes, touristy but worth to see once and you in miners cloth. Nice to see Willa being exhausted from the gorge hike with all the cold and fresh air.
There is another place that is worth visiting: the Wartburg on a mountain near the town of Eisenach in Thüringen. In a small chamber in the Wartburg Martin Luther translated the bible from the Latin into the German language and this room is still the same as it was in the 16th century.
I have a pic at the Marienbrucke taken 2019 but I want to know where exactly is that location with the glass fence? I'm visiting Bavaria again this May
I am a 62 old German and I have been in castles all my life. My primary school was in a castle, our youth group was in a castle for 3 weeks for holidays and not to count all that administration buildings that are in castles. Today, the castle in out small village houses the big band rehearsals, the community center and many festivities throughout the year. But despite studying in Munich for seven years, I have never been to Neuschwanstein and only have seen it from the Autobahn driving to the alps. I was always sceptic hearing that it is full of Amercians and Asians. Should I go for a visit?
Sorry, but no. Maibaum is not just a bavarian tradition. I think its placed in the whole southern, southern west tradition. Therefore in Baden-Württemberg and Rheinland- Pfalz, too.
It's not strange that does are is the mosted visted since they are the most marketed regions/places. Hessen is very Beautiful but it's as heavly marketed.
8:00 Strange prices! Roll with Leberkäse = 2,50 € - Roll with Bratwurst = 3,50 € - but... - Potato salad with Leberkäse costs exactly as much as with Bratwurst? Who made the prices then?
Die Burg Hohenzollern finde ich persönlich schöner als Neuschwanstein. Kommt mal nach Württemberg. Vom Zeller Horn sieht man die Burg schön wie sie auf ihrem Berg sitzt.
Have you already been to the Netherlands? :) I would highly recommend to go in summer! The cities are beautiful and the little North Sea islands like Ameland and Schiermonnikoog are a lot cuter and cosier than the German ones in my opinion.
Sorry, but I'm pretty sure that you are wrong. Your tasty Olibollen are (almost) the same as Berliner (Pfannkuchen). Quarkbällchen are different. Greetings from Cologne👋
First Part "Heut kommt der Hans zu mir...", but that's boring to say.)
And: make your Quarkbällchen at home. No big deal. They have to be fresh to taste perfect. Often you get "older" ones, which mean 30 min after cooking.
High politics like it here, too. The heads of state and government of the G7 countries will meet under the leadership of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) from June 26 to 28, 2022, at the G7 Summit at Schloss Elmau between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald. The previous G7 summit under the German presidency had also taken place at the luxury Schloss Elmau hotel in 2015. Barack Obama drank a "Karg Weissbier", also a Bavarian specialty, with Angela Merkel in Krün.
I will say thank you to all Bavarians who are responsible for the Image of the Leather pants wearing Jodel Germans. Thank you that we look so curious. 🤡
As a German, I can confirm that this part of the country is alright. But I still dislike many corners. Overall, Germany is a 50/50 when you don't know the real gems.
Tanners german has improved quite a bit! He seems to be less "shy" to speak it and his pronunciation has gotten way more...ummm.. german. Well done! Keep it up!

I'm always amazed at how well the little one keeps up with your long activities.
She is such a champ! We don’t film many of the times we take playground breaks & have much needed slow moments, but they happen. 😊
I very much like the hike from Mittenwald all the way to Austria alongside the river.
My heart belongs in Oberammergau having lived there in my early teens and do hope you get to visit.
I'm visiting Bavaria again this May
That’s awesome you’ve explored there! It is right by the gift shops right below the castle. Close to where the bus stops are :)
Yes, you should.
Sorry, but no. Maibaum is not just a bavarian tradition. I think its placed in the whole southern, southern west tradition. Therefore in Baden-Württemberg and Rheinland- Pfalz, too.
How is Willa doing in Kindergarten and is she learning German?
She’s loving it and yes, she is learning German and often comes home singing songs or saying new words to us all the time 😊
It's not strange that does are is the mosted visted since they are the most marketed regions/places. Hessen is very Beautiful but it's as heavly marketed.
Ihr seid tolle Menschen als auch tolle Eltern.
Anzeige ist raus.

Luar biasa kalian petualang sejati memberikan video pemandangan yang sangat indah sekali 😊👍
Still trying to figure out what a Mau-an is?
If you want to see something Beautiful you have to travel to the "Blautopf" it's one of the most beautiful places in Germany in my opinion.
Just looked this up and wow!! 😍
Have you already been to the Netherlands? :) I would highly recommend to go in summer! The cities are beautiful and the little North Sea islands like Ameland and Schiermonnikoog are a lot cuter and cosier than the German ones in my opinion.
Have you been to Heidelberg castle, yet?
Not yet! Thanks for reminding us we need to. 😊
@@OurStorytoTell I work as a guide in Heidelberg. So if you'd like a free tour, let me know :-)
Maibaum setzen is not realy a bavarian tradition. It is known in many areas and not only in germany.
Thanks for sharing! We are learning so much still. 😊
Das war doch nur den Maibaum setzten, dass ist eigentlich sehr verbreitet in Deutschland.
I bin in Mittawoid ois Saupreiß beschimpft worn.
Ois Einheimischer aus Murnau am Staffesea.
Only in Mittenwald.
Bäll of Bällchen is pronounced like the English bell! The chen part you just have to pratice.
Those balls you had we call them oliebollen in the netherlands
Sorry, but I'm pretty sure that you are wrong. Your tasty Olibollen are (almost) the same as Berliner (Pfannkuchen). Quarkbällchen are different.
Greetings from Cologne👋
This is definitely not Oliebollen, totally different food 😂

First Part "Heut kommt der Hans zu mir...", but that's boring to say.)
And: make your Quarkbällchen at home. No big deal. They have to be fresh to taste perfect. Often you get "older" ones, which mean 30 min after cooking.
👍👍👍😍
For me, the Bavarian culture and language is at least as foreign as it must be for you 😂
We had some great weather in Germany in the last weeks but you guys always seem to be caught in bad weather.
Interesting info! Thanks for sharing!
After being in Germany for a year, it would be nice if you could learn more German. Best way, is just not to speak English!
I will say thank you to all Bavarians who are responsible for the Image of the Leather pants wearing Jodel Germans. Thank you that we look so curious. 🤡
As a German, I can confirm that this part of the country is alright. But I still dislike many corners. Overall, Germany is a 50/50 when you don't know the real gems.
d-i-r-n-d-l. not d-r-i-n-d-l :D
but you'll get it eventually
