@@cherrypi_b No, those weren’t a thing back then. At least not at the Sellin sea-bridge. Up at the Cap Arkona lighthouse they had cobble stones with the names of the married couples. There are so much different landscapes within a rather small country. Not as big and gorgeous as in other countrys, but a kind of appetizer. Landscapewise it is at least not boring, you can have a little bit of a lot. Have fun you three.
Did you take the opportunity to go on the "Rasender Roland" steam train ? The little westwards island of Hiddensee (car-free) would also well be worth a visit. Some people so not look for rocks on these beaches but rather for amber. And the Baltic Sea beaches are famous for their high percentage of nudist sunlovers, a long-standing tradition from the East Germany days.
Omgoodness when will we bunp into each other? I am literally editing my video from my Rügen visit (very different to yours, as I was there for work (in the Theater) and I had wild weather.) And Willa is right - it’s so beautiful. How wonderful that she can see that and express it at such a young age. No wonder you make so much effort for her to see and experience so much. And I love your accommodation, but most of all I understand your reaction to being there. It’s hard to describe, because it’s a wonderful feeling, isn’t it. I have been to Sellin, but I will definitely visit Willa‘s castle next tine I‘m on Rügen!
I remember having been to many places with my parents when young. But I can hardly remember any specifics. When you lack the background knowledge a place does not tell you much except for the immediate impression. Like hot/cold, many houses/trees etc. But the significance and perhaps clues to other data escape the mind. And when you read about history later, and a place where you have been is mentioned, you wish you had that knowledge to check the place out in more detail. And returning to a place let's you see it differently again.
@@V100-e5q I do think it’s worth it to leave an impression though, don’t you? Because then travelling is just a bit less foreign and frightening if you have a pleasant memory of places, even without details. It’s a very interesting subject. I think travel makes so much difference and if it’s not possible in real life then at least through TH-cam.
@@LaureninGermany You have a point there. I just feel the regret that I didn't get more out of the travels. I just imagine when Willa has become grown up. And can't remember all the places she has been to.

Peaceful scenery, thanks for showing. This EC Card issue has been going on for two weeks now. It's a software issue of the US producer of the terminals. My local Aldi bought a completly new set of terminals because it doesn't seem as if it can be resolved that easy. In other stores it is still not possible to pay with cards
Did you know that Marburg has an elevator taking you from the Unterstadt (lower part of the town) to the Oberstadt (upper part of the town)? There used to be a bookshop that had its own lifts to take you from the Unterstadt to the Oberstadt within the shop.
The original pier of Sellin was damaged by high floods in a storm that came together with extreme cold weather, resulting in a frozen Baltic. The rising waters caused the ice to rip the wooden pillars of the pier out of the seabed. The remaining posts or pillars had to be left in their places when that reconstruction of the pier was underway in the early 1990s. The odd shape of the pier is caused by that; the new pillars could not be driven into the seabed where it was intended because of the remaining bits and pieces underwater. The pillars that support the pier are from steel now. When the first stage of that work was finished one of the honorary guests at the opening was a nearly 100 year old fotographer from Sellin who had taken tons of pictures about beach life in Sellin and especially of people on that pier in the years before WW II and had been able to keep the negatives in his archive. He was deeply moved by seeing that place of his young years being reconstructed. At first there was just the platform with some tents on it for catering, but then the original pier restaurant was widely rebuilt. The diving bell at the end was added in recent years.
Its a peaceful little ocean. No crazy waves, its perfect for a little family like yours. I was in that diving Bell but its not alot to see, its not a tropical ocean^^ but I enjoyed the diving experience
I still love your vids! Keep on! I recommend to visit the little ilsland Hiddensee. It has a nice old little Fishertown and can be reced by a ferry. You can lend bikes on it to see the island. I liked very much when beeing there. And also try some of the "Sanddorn" products. It´s typical for the region. Not everyone likes them (a bit bitter), but I do. Enjoy your time there!!
Was there 3 years ago and liked it very much. The only problem is the mobile connection as there is most of the time no signal available. People are a little shy at the beginning, but if they come to know you then they can't stop talking.
Regarding the Credit Card outage. Can confirm It was the same for me in Hamburg. For 2-3 Days a specific brand or the system behind it had huge problems. Others still worked.
Oh, how nice, that's the island, I was born on. If you are in Binz par example You also could get a trip on a boat/ small ship over the Baltic Sea. You also have to go to Gören and Baabe. On Rügen there also is a castle. And the white city Putbus. Kind of a capital of Rügen is the city Bergen. And from Rügen or also from the city Stralsund you should take the ferry to go to the small island Hiddensee. It's possible for a daytripp also. That is an island without cars allowed on. Lot of adventures are possible in all of that area. Oh, and on Rügen you would find a train for Willa. Der rasende Roland. And the old natural language in that area is Low German. Some of the people still are able to speak this language. On Rügen they also have little museums you could find, about the history of the area. There are also fisherman villages.
If you are still in the area and visit Hamburg don't miss out on Miniatur Wunderland, Fischmarkt and the Treppenviertel or the water show at planten and blomen
Really cute video with little Willa commentary ☺️ it’s a pity that the weather wasn’t better. I like to look for firestones with holes (for good luck) on the Baltic beaches or for amber which is much harder to find. If you like white stone coasts you have to go to Denmark to Møn Island. They are beautiful and several km long. I have never experienced a long lasting failure of the card machines like this in my life time! It was really annoying. I usually don’t carry a lot of cash with me. Certainly not enough to pay a tank full of gas these days.
The issue with the terminals is a technical issue, as verifon stated. It mostly hit north-east Germany and specific stores and chaines. Current suspicion is a bodged update a few month ago. But payment providers are already replacing those terminals.
@@OurStorytoTell did you see the video Lauren made for Lauren in Germany? Lübeck looks so lovely in that one. She was truly lucky with the light on that day.
You have to be careful on the beach. During World War II, nearby Peenemünde was incendiary bombed. Later, the incendiary bombs were sunk in the sea. The white phosphorus used is still washed up on the beach today. When wet, it can hardly be distinguished from amber, which is also often found there. White phosphorus self-ignites in air at 34 degrees Celsius and causes severe burn injuries.
"Cash in der Täsch" still rules sometimes :) No, that card thing doesn't happen regularly. For me it was the first time in over 20 years that i heard of something that wide spread. According to news it was one specific card terminal in shops that didn't work anymore so as a bakup you could always draw cash from the ATMs since they were not affected. Not the best if you are in the shop and want to check out unprepared but not an unsurmountable obstacle.
You three are absolutely lovely. And you're picking out the best spots to go in my home country. I'm actually living quite close to Grafenwöhr, in Regensburg. Go there on a nice day, if u haven't already. The old town is part of UNESCO World Heritage. ;) Enjoy ur time in the north
Just be careful walking underneath the cliffs, or too close to the edge - as you've seen, landslides do happen, and there has been the occasional beach walker buried in chalk rubble. Alas, the cliffs have become more unstable over the past decades.
Willa is soooo cute. "moin" is a northern German greeting that is not only used in the morning, as the sound would imply, but at any given time of the day. But using it double as "moin moin" - my brother in law who is from northern German would say "moin moin" is already too much babbling - meaning they are very sparse in words up north ha ha
That rocks with holes through them are flint. Flint is a material that has its origin in chalk and during the process of crystallization those flint bulbs took the shape that the then harder chalk around them forced upon them. Those holes are therefore no effect of erosion or any other kind of external force when those rocks were shaped in the first place. Those rocks simply grew that way. The sea later washed the chalk away and when there was some "bubble" of chalk in the flint those holes were the result. There is some old Slavic superstition about those rocks, saying that chicken lay more eggs or get protected against foxes or whatsoever when you hang a flint with a hole over the door of your poultry shed. That myth got reflected in some recent novel that was translated into German and the term "Hühnergötter" ("chicken gods") was created. Because all kinds of esotericism find a lot of followers in our time that myth about flints with holes on threads as a talisman has become widespread.
No the card thing doesn't happen a lot, for me it's was the first time I experienced that. I didn't do any research as to why it didn't worked (here in Berlin too) but it seemed like it didn't affected every store. I asked the rewe employee before going to pay if the card paying option is available at their cash out and he said it worked the whole time and they somehow weren't affected by the country wide card error. Idk why it work there but not at the other stores I went but yeah who knows what the problem really was idk
It affected one very popular model of card readers only. The one with the biggest market share in Germany. ATMs were not affected, so everyone could go to the nearest ATM and get cash.
You could have had a look for amber and other fossils at the beach. After a few minutes, you probably had found some Donnerkeile (thunderbolts), the fossilized body of Belemnoidea from the Mesozoic.
10:50 First of all, the nationwide disruption relates to the internal payment network of Edeka, and is temporary. But maybe we should start talking about the reasons why so many, especially small, businesses in Germany don't accept credit cards. Did you know that the card companies charge transaction fees that are so high that the shop owner pays on top for purchases under 25€? Now imagine, for example, a small bakery or a kiosk with this minus business. Since you can not explain this to any (especially international) customers without discussion, many of them abandon the option of card payment. So simple.
You can say "Moin" all day :D in my region of northern germany we say "those who say - moin, moin - instead of - moin - talk too much" :D ( wer moin moin sagt, der redet viel )
I have learned to never ever depend on cards only when I flew to the London UK for a weekend with 2 credit cards - so I got 100 pounds from a random ATM at the airport. Two hours later I got a call from the card company that the ATM war scammed (I did not see anything, but they said it does not matter if it was put there afterwards, and they said they are only informing me that my card has already been blocked and they even could not undo this even if they or I wished - I needed a new card, which they said could be in UK the monday after the quickest. Ok, I thought: well, I have another one, so no need for that. Then I'd tried to pay with it, learning that the chip on it was unreadable - I had not used it for some month at it was only my "emergency" cards with some usage fees... so luckily I was there with friends. I never go anywhere again without cash in my pocket.
Maybe you already know this, but it's funny... it's illegal to take stones from the beach in Italy, Greece -and a few other countries. In Germany it is allowed in small quantities, only for private use

There are so much different landscapes within a rather small country. Not as big and gorgeous as in other countrys, but a kind of appetizer. Landscapewise it is at least not boring, you can have a little bit of a lot. Have fun you three.
Hope you also went to Stralsund a very beautiful city by the bridge that leads to Rügen.
We didn’t unfortunately but next time! Stay tuned for where we did go! 🎥😊
Thank you so much for this video but honestly…. Willa is the real star as always. 😄
We can’t disagree! 😊
@@V100-e5q you sound like you are experiencing what we Welsh call „hiraeth“. A kind of Sehnsucht for a place or a time that may or may not have been really like that. Or maybe that’s just my interpretation of your rather evocative turn of phrase!
@@LaureninGermany Nostalgia vs. missed opportunities?
Don't buy bus tickets! Currently you can buy the 9 Euro ticket per sons which unlocks a large number of transportation options over the whole of Germany for a month, during June to August..
Such a awesome deal going on!
Can’t believe how long it’s been going on!
Noch 7 Wochen bis BINZ, ich freue mich schon sehr!
Next to rocks you might find amber on the beach, especially after a storm. And yes there was an outage of the terminals for card payment in Germany.
But only some chain stores were affected. Like Penny had no problem while Aldi did.
Did you know that Marburg has an elevator taking you from the Unterstadt (lower part of the town) to the Oberstadt (upper part of the town)? There used to be a bookshop that had its own lifts to take you from the Unterstadt to the Oberstadt within the shop.
Risa, no need to apologize for constantly using "gosh" all the time! I'm glad that you guys are enjoying Rugen!
Hey thanks!! We definitely did. 😊
You need to experience the tides of the North Sea. You will love it. Walking for hours into empty sea
Stay tuned for Sundays video! 😉
I probably should watch the video till the end first, but I can‘t wait to ask if you took a ride on the „Rasender Roland“? 🙂
Ohh thanks for the tip! We love to hear you’re still enjoying our videos 😊
Ya, such a headache when you aren't exactly prepared with cash. We saw so many people at the Geldautomat during the outage 😂
Wow I was just in Rügen...:) like 3 weeks ago. :) So fun to see a few of the places I just visited :)
I had a rock tumbler!
The Rock with a natural hole is a tiny god thats why ppl keep them. Its a lucky charm.
You should visit the beautiful city Lübeck!
We’ve been told this! It’s still on our list, but a visit there WILL happen 😊
@@OurStorytoTell did you see the video Lauren made for Lauren in Germany? Lübeck looks so lovely in that one. She was truly lucky with the light on that day.
Great Video!!!!🥰
Ostsee ❤️😍 you should have looked out for amber, not for stones 😉😁
The old town is part of UNESCO World Heritage. ;)
Enjoy ur time in the north
Yep, Germany has Beaches, Mountains, real 4 seasons etc....everything is Clean and fair prices.....
Great Place To live....
Your child is just so cute 😁👍
We agree 😊
9:27 These rocks have a funny name in German, they are called "Hühnergott" ("Chicken God", or "Chicken's God"). 😊
The card terminals (?) are from an American company though I think
Just be careful walking underneath the cliffs, or too close to the edge - as you've seen, landslides do happen, and there has been the occasional beach walker buried in chalk rubble. Alas, the cliffs have become more unstable over the past decades.
Willa is soooo cute. "moin" is a northern German greeting that is not only used in the morning, as the sound would imply, but at any given time of the day. But using it double as "moin moin" - my brother in law who is from northern German would say "moin moin" is already too much babbling - meaning they are very sparse in words up north ha ha
love your work, how is Willa going with her German?
Wilkommen im Norden. Rügen ist wunderschön. Ich war auch schon 2x da. Visit my Hometown, 3h by Car from Rügen in the west. Gruß aus Lübeck.
I love Rügen!
We can say the same now 😊
No the card thing doesn't happen a lot, for me it's was the first time I experienced that.
Rügen is highest ranking(in Germany) when it comes to hours of sunshine
Fun fact to learn! Thanks 😊
It's so funny: Willa has almost 100% of the original Donald Duck voice in places - so cute!
You could have had a look for amber and other fossils at the beach. After a few minutes, you probably had found some Donnerkeile (thunderbolts), the fossilized body of Belemnoidea from the Mesozoic.
We were in Berlin and the credit carx issue was a mess
So weird!
So simple.
We can’t imagine how difficult that would be! Makes sense!
Nur Bares ist wahres
The kid is too cute.
You can say "Moin" all day :D in my region of northern germany we say "those who say - moin, moin - instead of - moin - talk too much" :D ( wer moin moin sagt, der redet viel )
😊thanks for sharing!
but in M-V you dont really say it (at least not in Rostock), but I lived in Flensburg for a while, there people say it all the time
I have learned to never ever depend on cards only when I flew to the London UK for a weekend with 2 credit cards - so I got 100 pounds from a random ATM at the airport.
Does Willa still go to daycare (Kita) ?
Yes! 😊 She loves it! Planning on doing a TH-cam update about it in a couple months so stay tuned!
Credit card machines usually never go down in Deutschland. Must be a very highly unusual glitch in the system. But Cash is definitely King there.
Willa is such a cute little Girl and so woken Up and Open minded
Wart ihr in Prora da steht das längste Gebäude der Welt das Kdf.
0:49 Airbnb used to be better! 😁
Maybe you already know this, but it's funny...
it's illegal to take stones from the beach in Italy, Greece -and a few other countries.
In Germany it is allowed in small quantities, only for private use
No we didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing! 😊
