    Maynard writes the lyrics after the music done. How incredible it must be for Danny, Justin, & Adam to compose a song sonically, only to be blown away by the time Maynard gives it a narrative?!?

    • @AtticsTV
      @AtticsTV 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      I know this has been a big thing shared on Tool reactions recently, and its awesome to see what Maynard does since his addition is always amazing... but this is actually an extremely common practice, especially in metal. You almost always have the vocalist write their parts after the song is done... then maybe the band does some tweaks after the vocal plans are made if they feel it would be an improvement.
      I DO think what is awesome about it is how seamless the Maynard parts fit the song to create an experimental experience that FEELS like it was written together. Definitely something mostly unique to Tool.

      is it something that unusual? i don't think musicians usually start composing a song, from an idea like "let's make a musical piece, and it will be about elephants and trains"
      i'd imagine it's usually about finding a catching melody, then building around that, and at the end writing some lyrics matching the vibe
      also add to the fact, that vocalists usually aren't main composers in the bands as far as i know

      He wrote this a out his manager and the fight they had in court to separate the band and it took ten years for them to finally win the music they wrote Maynard never put out his songs over the airwaves through Spotify and other others until he had the rights and the band holds the rights to all their music and they made their record company so they have full control of the music they create not only did Maynard fight but they won the battle ! During the ten year wait they created 10,000 days it came out the shows the growth of the band and it has growth written all over it 10,000 days was written about his mother Wings for Marie was a tribute to her battle she fought she lived 10,000 days after her stroke it's a beautiful to his mother.. After 10,000days was put out we waited 10years for them to put out Fear while they fought for the rights to their songs all the band holds the rights to every song they write its divided equally even though Maynard writes the lyrics after the music is done ... Genius.. my uncle was Tommy Tedesco he wrote and played guitar .. he wrote music that is legend in the industry look him up on you tube , anyway I'm rambling but to give insight to their songs you've got to be hardcore and dive into the meanings of their songs, Mayn ards other. Band is A Perfect Circle, they are genius in the industry , Maynard writes and sings this was his band he created to soothe his wait during the battle with the old manager , they fought for the rights to the songs they wrote , A perfect Circle was created ch😊eck them out sometime, you'll love the live album they did 13th step it's about the A A rule that's a un written rule you never date for the 2 years following your recovery after the 12 steps are done and unwritten rule is no dating another member of A A and have relationships while in recovery, the album is a tribute to the issues and the insight to people in recovery and their problems they fight .... He's genius Maynard is Genius .... Follow and research Tool they are essential in the industry and have created some awesome work ... 🙏😁💛💛💛💛❤️🧡😮❤️🍄🍄🍄To really get the right meaning of the songs you need to research them , then you'll understand Maynard min😅d a little more ..... Become a diehard fan like me and millions of others Tool is the blood that courses in my veins , it's amazing to 😮share this band the way you do , great work you've gotten the band down .... Try listening to the album Lateralis only then can you grasp the real genius Maynard is.... Remember the music was created with no words , Maynard listens to the music then writes the words... I'm hardcore Tool fan I fly to see them when their in Calif an😅d Nevada and Phoenix it's wild being a Toolie it's become a great part of my life it's my get away , when my head is full of the events of the days past it release s my neg energy a and thoughts , it's great therapy they twist and tug and they rise above them all , they even won Grammys for their work.. I'm rambling so I now will stop , you can see how I love them ... No words can I find to express the feeling they give you , that's the reason we love them so much they take your head and create energy and take you places you never thought you existed in them . Till Tool came out I was all over the board they cured me. They healed my head , itvwas a scary place I was in ,the n I heard Tool in 96 I've been a fan since ... They healed me ... The beautiful thing about Tool is that their songs can be interpreted at least a few different ways depending on the listener and where they are in their own personal growth. Tool, and Maynard James Keenan's other bands A Perfect Circle and Puscifer have seen many of us through some very dark times in our lives. So, like others have already said, welcome to the rabbit hole.

    I was just going over dissonence in my DBT group. For some of us, we hold these thoughts in our mind that do not come from us, but are often values that were forced onto us at a young age, and as our own self awareness developed, we can often feel confused and not understand why.
    I hear the voice in my head, reminding me how little my own wants and desires matter, all while over-indulging in anything that makes me feel good; like, when you're in a group of friends, you're hungry, and the question gets asked what everyone wants, and where should we order from. I don't voice my opinion until no one else offers anything, then I INSIST that we order what I want. Feelings of guilt crop up and then I start to feel bad about myself for strongly expressing what I want.
    Also, I will feel strongly about how badly my friend is being treated by their spouse, and, after my friend cheated on her, my ethics tell me to insist they confess to her, or I will...but, then I don't, because I don't want to lose them as a friend.

      @@baki2332 i don't know, & haven't found any Led Zep riffs TOOL stole, borrowed, or reefered to. I wouldn't be surprised if Page found TOOL's No Quarter cover on Napster labeled as their own & threw a shitfit. Or even just over the song itself. But this song is full of references to songs Jimmy Page ripped off in Led Zeppelin. I have no hard evidence he tried to sue them but the song seems to speak for itself in that regard, IMO.

The Pot also ofcourse refers to pot which is another word for weed and is part of the reason he saya you musty have been high. This song is just genius!

    Please check out Bo Burnham "Can't handle this". He's a little different from your usual videos, but I think your take on it would be amazing.
    Bo uses musical comedy to express his MH struggles, but paradoxically his MH can be negatively affected by sharing the way he does. Can't handle this was a heart on sleeve goodbye to his fans before he took a 5 year break from performing live, to work on himself, and it lead to him having a panic attack while performing it. I don't think most people even realized he was having a panic attack, but for those of us who have experienced them, it could be considered one of the bravest performances of all time.

    Another Tool song with an incredibly positive message (or sort of a 'set' of songs - the first is the intro to the second) is Parabol / Parabola. The lyrics are simple in that one but really profound in terms of consciousness, the body, possibly Bardo, and how the three tie together. It's kind of similar to the lyrical theme of Pneuma but perhaps even more blunt.

    I spend every work week being my own inner self-critic...questioning my abilities and worth at work. By the end of (most weeks) I've worked through those roadblocks and have gotten work done. Instinctively I know this is the best way to shut down that internal critic, but the struggle restarts every Monday!

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From bmao: @zamdrist Thank you for being so honest. I feel you. I struggle with the same feelings. It's as if all you do isn't enough and that you will never be able to make it enough. Those roadblocks pop up and leave you wallowing in self-doubt. I know how hard those can be. I'm so glad that you've found ways to work through them and get all of your weekly work done, and I pray that you will be able to learn how to more effectively shut down your inner critic when it rears it's head. In moments where I feel defeated, I like to pause, even if only for a moment, take a deep breath, and reaffirm myself. You are doing a great job. I hope you continue to overpower that inner critic and find peace with yourself and your work. I wish you nothing but the best, and we are always here if you need us!

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From Micro: @zamdrist Yea... it's such a vicious cycle that seems endless at times. Somehow, overcoming those roadblocks is extremely satisfying and relieving in the moment. It gives a sense of accomplishment. But then it also feels like you are stuck in a loop where the same obstacles occur over and over. In the end, it almost feels as if you are constantly trying to survive but can't reach the core struggle. It makes me think of this image of applying a bandage on an open wound. It soothes and adds some layer of protection, until you have to change the bandage again. You realize that as long as there isn't stitches made to help the wound heal, it continues on bleeding.
      It is *so hard* to combat our inner critic, especially at work. I personally resonate to what you've shared here, as I associate way too much of my worth to what I do - the roadblocks that are overcome, the milestones reached, the projects accomplished. It's like there's a beast inside of you that keeps on feeding with what you do - and if you have nothing to offer to it it will growl even stronger. You do your best to tame it and quiet, but somehow taming it can't be done through your accomplishments and tasks done, for these only justify its existence in the first place. Somehow, I believe that it is possible to learn to tame this monster by sitting with it, looking at its ugly face, and learning to befriend it. Just because it's a part of our mind, and what it says often echoes parts of our stories when we've been wounded. Things we've learned or integrated about ourselves that are not right and don't serve us in any way. It's definitely hard to unlearn what has been a part of our life for a significant time, all the patterns that we've learned to be familiar with.
      Something amazing in your post is that... you're aware of the cycle. There were probably times in your life before when you were purely enduring it, when you were completely subjected to the narrative of your inner critic. But now you're also OBSERVING it. You're in an outside of this situation, and you are able to identify where the issue resides. It may not give immediate answers as to why it is present in your life, or how to overcome it, but it is already a HUGE strength to be aware of these patterns at play - especially when they essentially occur in our mind. From there, there is hope to start making different decisions, explore new pathways, and learn to give yourself as much grace and patience you've been needing along the way. :heart:

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From JBrach: @zamdrist Realizing your worth is not what you can accomplish, how well you do tasks, the approval you can gain from others, is one of the most important realizations one can have, but it is the most difficult to live out and internalize. It is so easy to place work as our source of value, we grade ourselves giving ourselves a sliding scale of success and value based on how we produce. However, this is a lie-- it is an utter lie that has been sold by people who benefit from our productivity. It is a lie we tell ourselves to replace meaning for our existing with meaning from production. However, it is true that if you never accomplished anything else in your entire life you would be worthy of love. Your life has meaning no matter what you do. I hope you can find peace from the inner critic and see how wonderful you are apart from anything you do-- but just WHO you are.

    another band I think you'd find really interesting is a band called Death. Yes I know the name may sound a lil strange but trust me the main member (Chuck Schuldiner) is an absolute genius when it comes to both song and lyric writing. The music is quite a bit more intense than what TOOL is like but I reckon you'd find it very interesting to look in to. If I'd recommend some good starting songs, I'd say Symbolic is a very good one, but also Without Judgement, Crystal mountain, Lack of comprehension, and Scavenger of human sorrow are good starting points as well. I'd also recommend having lyrics up because of the nature of the music it may be hard to understand what he's saying at some points.

    This entire album is about his mothers battle with Cancer. She was told by the courts she would loose her health care if she kept using Mary J to help her in the last days of her life. Took doesn’t write songs together, band makes the music, Maynard writes the vocals after the song is complete.

      Maynard’s mother died from complications of a stroke she had 27 years earlier. Wings for Marie 1 & 2 are about his mother unwavering dedication and faith in God even after she was forgotten and abandoned by her church after her stroke and the hypocrisy he saw. Vicariously, commentary on societies obsession and selling tragedy to feed people’s morbid fascination with tragedy, death,and destruction and our unending hunger for more as long as it’s not you it’s happening to. Jambi, song about Maynard’s son. The Pot, song clapping back at Jimmy Page for bagging on Tool claiming they used their sound when Led Zeppelin did the same thing, “eye-balls deep in Muddy Waters, f****** hypocrite” referencing Led Zeppelin taking and using the sound of one of the all time great blues artist Muddy Waters music. Lipan Conjuring, album filler Tool is well known for doing this on albums. Lost Keys, set up for Rosetta Stoned. Rosetta Stoned, pure humerus song about first person story of an alien abduction. Right In Two, song about man being blessed with all these amazing gifts to use for good and the well being of all but they use these gifts to gain power, wealth and for selfish evil reasons. Though the albums title 10,000 Days is a reference to how long his mother lived after a very debilitating stroke only two songs on the album, Wings for Marie 1 & 2 are about his mother.
