I think that if I was doing production work, I'd start with a Lathe and a slightly oversized handle profile template. Then shape the ovate profile tuned to the grain direction.

Is there a part two? To finish the handle??

Was looking rough at first, but shaped out nicely. Thanks for the tips. I don't have either of the sanders/grinders you used, but still got some valuable insite. Thanks.

fair enough, and here everytime I was trying to round I was doing a constant spin, and my stuff keeps coming out off center ovals, for my props, and the lath is only so big for fitting stuff on to make round.

Hi what is a good type of wood to use? I have a lot of pine? But strength? Any reply appreciated. Love your vids. I've learned a lot of info from you.ive made a machete with high carbon steel. Make a forge. Also restoration of a bowie hunting knife. I reground the blade, made a nice new handle. Original was plastic! ( hollow) as well. ALCE brand. Looks real custom now. Excellent tutorials! Cheers from Australia 🙂👍👍👍

I was expecting a few shavings before watching this one, but I have to admit the layout technique is really well explained, no matter stock removal produces dust or whatever else ! Thanks for sharing.

Great video and very informative. Question: where do you get your sanding belts. I'm having a heck of a time finding good sanding belts that either won't last past a few pieces of material or just plain fly apart while sanding.
