I never decided to sleep until my third play through, and encountering the bad side of Harry’s weirdly charming insanity was soul crushing.
Here was this man anyone could insert their own aspects into, and here was his greatest failure, where all of the skills and feelings lead you to nothing more than a sucker punch you see coming but can’t bring yourself to avoid.
Six years is such a long time, but Mr. Dubois, Harry, Detective, Raphael Ambrosiuous Cousteau, whatever you decide for him; we know he can get over her. He knows he has to, especially when he “speaks” to the Phasmid and it tells him exactly what we all are thinking and what he, a brilliantly gifted detective has already deduced: he needs to move on.
Revachol is stuck in the past, people like Kim and Harry are the future. Even Vicmarque and Cuno and Soona and Titus.
They are all talented individuals who almost embody the different aspects of the world they find themselves in and all of them can do better, and Harry finally doing his Job so goddamn well made them realise they have that future.
They are all people. Accepting, conflicted with or straight up fighting with their pasts, but united in the understanding they are working towards something truly good.
Here Volition is weak, Empathy is egoist, Conceptualization has nothing interesting to say, Logic is irrational, Rethoric cannot argue, Authority is powerless, Physical Instrument is lame and Suggestion is a creep. All of them cannot but fail even if they success.
This part always gets me, especially the "see you tomorrow Harry". The feeling of unending heartbreak that he's been going through just comes rushing home with this scene. And that this is going to happen again to Harry, but perhaps thru helping Harry heal by playing the game, and with Kim and a few other genuine good people to back him up, he might better weather the heartache
When it gets towards the end and she stops sugar coating it, man. Particularly the line about terminating his baby, and how real darkness wears love for a face.
@@The41stPrecinctyup, I was like: "Really Harry? Get over her." Then the 'poor fuck' and baby line came in and I was completely on his side.
@@melancholyman369It’s not about sides. Harry was always going to be chewed up and spit out by the world of DE, he’s uniquely built to comprehend and suffer its absurdities .
Could you live with a partner like Harry? Raise a child with them? I couldn’t.
harry is better off with someone who does want an epic massive showdown anyway.
I picked the Sensitive build and put a lot of points into the more esoterical and emotional skills, so I got most of this interaction. It's a heart-breaking moment in the game nonetheless, and few games have ever sucker-punched me in the soul quite like this one.
I watched this dialog several times as it hits home and it's one of the most beautiful pieces of media that I seen. And once I discovered this guy's channels, I have been watching all dialogs just to see all the options. However, I realize mid-video that perhaps there not much point in watching this particular scene play out with maximum skill points, as there is nothing that a skill check pass can change about it, there is no new knowledge to be found, no new angle to explore. Harry is powerless.
This is beauty, I wish I could find other pieces of media as profound as this. Thanks for your work.
Omg, the "kiss" scene was positively creepy, there's something really lecherous about Harry's pose in that, and the descriptions... Let's just say they hit way harder if you know how it feels to be forced and locked into an unwanted, unwelcomed and deeply uncomfortable physical intimate interaction.

I wonder does this go much differently with lowest possible skills like do the passive checks have fail dialogue or just not come up?
It’s been a long time since I played it vanilla so I’d need to go back through it, I guess you’re probably going to get failed checks in there which would be interesting giving they are failing you even when they are succeeding the checks

No idea, I’d guess suggestion or volition. They are very apologetic in this scene.
@@The41stPrecinct i think it's authority, the text is the facade it's trying to keep up to maintain its self-image as The Authority but you still hear its weakness and groveling as it absolutely failed you in that moment
That is an actual line authority says if you choose the "eternal damnation" dialogue at around 14:03. It repeating here is an error that didn't get fixed, because it happened in my playthrough too.
