- The Union Pacific's 1982, an EMD SD70ACe, and a Heritage locomotive is the leader of a long manifest train on the Geneva subdivision. The train originated in North Platte, Nebraska and was destined for Elkhart, Indiana.
The train had unfortunately been forced to stop just in view of the cameras due to a train ahead with brake issues on a car. We pick up the action just after it begins to get underway. Also, watch for the mid train DPUs at 4:45
The actual passage took almost 14 minutes. I've edited in two sections of 4X real time to get it down to about 8 minutes.
Good grief... it would have been long enough if had been rolling right along. But having to start up again then slow roll by. Ouch!

Good job This was the first heritage unit I saw
Awesome video, my fav unit, caught this today & last sunday, love the horn.
WOW!!! That was a long train, awesome catch on 1982 and 8113 in the middle, great lighting conditions as well, hopefully you got some stills of 1982 since she was rollin' by so slow, great work Bill!
Nice job as always Bill. I've noticed on the couple of times that I've filmed 1982 that it's starting to look a little ragged. I've read that UP will not refresh the livery when they get shabby because of the expense involved, but that the units will be painted in standard Armour yellow and gray. Best to see it a threadworn Heritage unit than just another UP locomotive.
Excellent video!
Speeding up the recording on long, slow trains is great! This one was perfect!
I really like your videos!
nice video and great catch of the 2 up engine's on the freight train.
@greatgreatgrandma A couple of miles. Thanks for watching
Bill
@Trainz35 I do pick my opportunities. Have a good network of tipsters which I appreciate. Chicago area does give an advantage too, of course. Thanks for watching.
Bill
Cool! This passed me in West Chicago by the training center, today.

Bill
@AJ67901 Thanks. I did notice that the paint is showing its age a bit. Constant outdoor exposure can't help.
Bill

@dwkcamman611 Thanks. Yes, I and the four other railfans nearby had ample time to shoot some photos.
Bill
Wow! Nice job Bill...
Nice catch and wow that was a long one for the Geneva Sub, sure beat the CN in DPU's but not in length!
@geomodelrailroader Nice. Thanks for the comment.
Bill
@UPDetector Ryan, you are asking the wrong guy. I know little about it other than what I was told. Sorry. A UP guy told me it was "QNPEL 22" and the departure and termination locations. I hope I've got that correct. Thanks for watching.
Bill
@AndrewKhartukov Thanks very much.
Bill
Thanks. That was an neat leader and train combination. Of course, we see that length and more all the time on the CN.
Bill

The QNPEL also might have a Norfolk Southern unit in the mix
@DelayInBlock Hey thanks much.
Bill
Good Lord, by the time the end of the train reached the camera, the front part was already in Elkhart Indiana! LOL!!!
@basicbill1 LOL it is always good to see a heritage unit
@trime1851 Thanks very much!
Bill
According to the phone trace it said it's estimated time of interchange delivery was Chicago, so wouldn't that be QNPCH/MNPCH, or did the train start from Elkhart and head for Chicago, because then it should be QEHCH/MEHCH if I got the symbol right, or did 1982 already depart Chicago for Elkhart being on QCHEH/MEHCH at the time you caught it or what's going on? Nice catch and K5HLL Bill
@RailfanningRulez Ohh so this is QCHEH then or is it QPREH?
that is MOPAC 1982 on the head end in my video I have SP1996
@1489011 Lucky catches lately. Thanks.
