This song, I believe is talking about how much Country Music has changed over the years. George Jones song "who"s going to fill their shoes" talks about this point. There are very few country music artist today that play like or similar to the country music that Hank Williams Jr. is use to making. The nice smooth, tell a story, kind of music.
Yes it could be about how much Country has changed over the years with a few word changes.
However it was released in 1980 on the "Habits, Old And New" album and was referring to Disco music.

As a huge HANK fan, so glad to see you do this less popular song. I have always loved this song...it really does describe how alot of us fans of "older country music" feel today. The new stuff is more pop than country. Nothing wrong with pop music, I like that too, but I don't want pop music when I'm in a slow groove country kind of mood. It's about getting older and not being ok with the new changes, how we wish things would stay the way they were. And there are alot of us that feel like dinosaurs. Great reaction! I love once in a while having a few mixed drinks with my husband on a Saturday night at home, listen to some old Hank Jr, Conway Twitty and some Mickey Gilley. We dance around the house and just have a nice night. Funny thing is I'm more a hip hop and rocker myself lol. Old country is a smooth and good feeling though. Great reaction!!!

Love how a city guy vibes to a county boy! Watched you review 3 of Hank Jr songs so far. Yeah, he was one of the "Outlaws of Country Music". Very skilled artist loved by many.
I grew up listening to Hank Jr. in the 80's. He's great. He said people used to spit on him because he didn't sound/look like his father when he started 60's. Thank God for Hank!

Hell yeah. Saw him back in '82 at a smaller outdoor place called "Meadowbrook" here in southeast lower Mich then at a big indoor stadium "The Palace" in 1990. 2 of the best country shows I ever saw.
I've been to three Jr shows and each time the band went on break but Hank stayed on stage,sat on stage sang and played till they came back on for another 3 hrs!!! Great shows!!!
Yep, saw him at the circle star theater San Carlos California a small venue less than 4000 seats and it has a rotating stage, there is no seat further than 50 feet away, what a great concert that was, one of the best I’ve ever been to, can’t remember what year it was! maybe 1982,83,84?

The song is about turning his trusty old juke joint into a disco tech. At the time this came out disco was still big and so many people were hating it and speaking out about it.

You HAVE GOT TO listen to his Dad, Hank Williams, Sr. It is hard for some people to listen to. This was back in the late 40's and 50's. The man died before he was 30. Some people feel he doesn't get enough credit or play. He wrote unbelievable songs and that makes him an Immortal.
Love Hank Sr. I even had his music when he played as Luke The Drifter.
Also "Stoned at the Jukebox" was a hit in the early 70s, a song Hank Jr wrote about his own life at the time. Great song to check out.
Wow, it's a young Chuck Berry!!! Great analysis of that classic Hank tune. Being 57 in 2021 I'm about feeling like a friggin' dinosaur. I remember having that "cassette" back when it came out in the early 80s. Man, give me the 80s anytime over this BS decade.

OMG I remember those days. Used to go to a place out in the country called the Hilltop. Listen to a band play rock and country. Drink some whiskey and when the band went on a break, we'd go outside and smoke some in the parking lot. Some real good times!!
For us it was Boit Hill Saloon and the band went on break in order to fire up a doob. LOL, We were all out in the parking lot.

I’ve met Hank Williams Jr. He had a cabin built in Troy Alabama and my husband worked on it and he invited all employees and their immediate family to a party he was having after it was done. He’s great. He is from Ozark Alabama

You should check out his dad. Hank Williams. I'm 65 now and growing up my mom liked a lot of the old country music. Hee Haw was the first time I really got a feel for some old country. Check out his father. It's a whole new trip.
