    Hey JP I'm a guy who is Told to Play PG. One thing that I get confused with when I run the offense is How Do I ask For a Screen/Pick from my Teamates? Do I Point at the place where I want them to set the screen or do I shout at them to send me a screen?

    • @JezPhipps

    I have small hands. I usually use my palms and I'm the best shooter on my team. my coach said to have space between my palm and my fingers. what am I suppose to do

    • @schuylersavage276
      @schuylersavage276 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it goes in, it goes in. Even Steph tells people about the space between the ball and palm thing but when he shots sometimes it looks like it’s touching his palm. Technically you do want a liiiiittle space there, but do what works best. Coaches suck a lot of the time. I will say this, if I were you I would try to see if I can add a liiittle bit of a gap. Give it a try for a couple weeks. If it really seems like it’s impossible for you, so be it. But sometimes, it’s worth it to make a change to your shot that sort of makes you a little bit worse for a short time, but ends up making you even better in the long run. It really depends on how great of a shooter you want to be. I know you are the best shooter on your team, but what does that really mean? Are there like 5 guys on the team who all shoot 40 percent from 3 and you are better than all of them still? Well that sounds like Wharver you are doing is working. Or are you the best shooter on your team simply because no one else is that great at shooting? And what’s your end goal? Do you want to just be a decent shooter compared to most good shooters? Or do you want to be the best shooter you could ever be? Like even if you are comparing yourself to pros? In almost every single area in life, we can ALWAYS be better. You gotta figure out what you really want. Look at Steph. The dude somehow continues to seem like he’s getting better even tho he’s been the best ever for some time now. Or let’s look at sometime like Dame. Since Dame got to the league he’s been a petty good shooter from deep. He was basically a 35+ percent shooter on high volume 3s per game since day 1. But that wasn’t enough for him. He works on his shot every single offseason. And look at him now. Not only has he managed to push his range back farther and farther each year, but now he’s also upped his percentage from around 36 percent every year to around 40 percent! He’s never settling. He’s never satisfied. I’ve listened to a lot of his interviews talking about his shooting. He isn’t even satisfied with where he currently shoots from. He’s working on pushing his range to legit mid court. During the offseason following his trip to the WCF, he was already saying that he can shoot from mid court casually when he’s producing, but he’s going to keep working until he feels comfortable with that shot in-game. Crazy right? It’s funny because when you think about someone working so hard to be able to take such ridiculous shots, sort of seems silly right? Like why would anyone ever feel ok actually taking shots from half court in the normal flow of a game and not jsut at half time? Well, because it just makes the D have to come out farther away from the basket. Makes you even more inpossivle to guard. It spaces the floor to such a ridiculous degree. The more space you have to operate the harder you are to guard. It’s why teams try to ice plays and push them towards the baseline. Take away the middle. Well then imagine if you can come up the court and launch from 45 feet with about 37/38 percent accuracy….wtf are teams supposed to do???
      Do you man. But if you are already a really good shooter and you still have technical aspects of your shot that you could improve? That’s dope and a great chance for you to become an even more amazing shooter

    fun thing is I dont know which finger to use, none of the finger works. I was shooting fine until one day I discovered some ppl talk about index finger shooting, then I messed around between index, middle, or both index and middle or 3 main fingers, none worked. And it was 12 years ago when youtube started to be a thing. till now my shot is fucked, the ball always slip when I shoot and I shoot massive airball, it is impossible to shoot anywhere further than freethrow range.

    • @JezPhipps
      @JezPhipps  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The fact that your saying that it’s impossible is a huge reason why you can shoot lol, you gotta believe man b-ball is more mental than physical. Continue to see what works for you man then continue to build. It takes time. Keep grinding. Fun fact throughout the past years I’ve always been a good shooter but I switched my releases at times to see how it really is/feels, but decided to use the split which I do best. Stay positive

    • @aa1944-k2r
      @aa1944-k2r 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JezPhipps thats why i am saying it is impossible because there is no one set of specific finger release that works for me now and most often than not the ball just completely slips off my hand when I shoot without rolling off my fingers so the ball is completely short. this even happens regularly when i am working on form shooting at the court within the paint or shooting straight up at my home. not playing basketball for the past 11 years also make a big difference as it messes up my shot, I naturally lower the set point and try to shoot in front of my face like modern nba players do doesnt seem to work
