No one asked but I have a great memory with this song that i would like to share with you. It was around 2009, my brother and I were really into skateboarding back then. We used to watch how to ollie, kickflip etc. on TH-cam, classic, and one day we came across a sponsorship video for RedBull by a skateboarding group here in Turkey called "Night Pandaz" (or something like that). This song was playing in the background of the video. Perfect harmony... Of course, I had no idea how this song would find a place in my mind at the time. After about 2 years, I found myself humming this song one random day. An incredible melody, an amazing background. I walked around humming or whistling the melody for days and even weeks. But I had no idea what the song name was. I could never find the song. The interesting thing was that I couldn't find NightPandaz's skateboarding video either. All I had was the name "Istanbul" (an important big city in Turkey) and the melody of the song. I looked up all the songs that had the word "Istanbul" in them on Google (and believe me, there are A LOT), and I looked at maybe all the skateboarding videos that were shot in Turkey at that time. I could never find it. Another funny thing is that there is this Turkish song with the same melody (well, almost same), "Olmaz Böyle Şey", recorded in 1974 by an artist named Yeşim (Maybe RJD2 sampled or was inspired by this song, I don't know). And since the 1976 had the word "Istanbul" in it and a Turkish skateboarding group used it, I thought RJD2's song was a Turkish song. So no matter who I hummed or told them about it, they told me it was Yeşim's song. I searched for the song for about 8 years. I couldn't find it. After 8 whole years (around 2018-19), on my birthday, my brother asked me to write "RJD2 - 1976" on TH-cam. And oh boy... I have received many birthday gifts up until now, but this was probably the best gift by far. As soon as the song started in my headphones, tears started flowing from my eyes. Such a great melody, such perfect composition. The rewind effect of the record towards the end and then going back in, its energy... I know there are a lot of great musics but this one is different for me. It's just perfect. I've been listening to it ever since, and when I'm not listening, I walk around whistling or humming the melody most of the time. I would like to thank RJD2 for making such a beautiful piece and of course my brother for his amazing gift. And also, thank you for reading... (PS: An addendum for those who believe in fate. The very next day after my birthday, I went to a mall and there, in front of the Steelseries brand section in a technology store, a mouse promotional ad was playing and guess what! "RJD2 - 1976" was playing in the background of the promotional video. HAHAHA sometimes it feels like the universe is trying to make fun of you.)
Bruv, that is a beautiful story. Well, it happened to me today, that I suddenly remembered that "Istanbul" lyrics with that beat... and suddenly I started humming that song. It's been probably 15-16 years since I last heard it. Luckily for me, it was just a matter of 20 minutes to find the song. I remembered something along "RTFS" or "RTSP" and could not find anything. But I knew, that "RJD2" had another song, where a guy on crutches was dancing and skateboarding... so I googled exactly that "Guy on skateboard with crutches" and immediately found it. But reading your story, the memories you had with it that we partially share, as I was boarding to that music aswell, brought up a little tear :) Glad you found it and you seem to have a great brother who really cared!
@@CptCoach HAHAHA, awesome. You were definitely luckier than me :D Jokes aside, it's great to see that this melody has such fond memories in so many minds when you look at the comments here. I'm glad we share the same feelings with similar memories. It's almost like a tribe gathered around a single song :) The melody is so cleanly composed that it instantly becomes a part of your mind and it's easy to whistle or hum along to it. And thank you for reading it! I'm glad you liked it.
I like the way the video was directed it was like on a journey through Cuba. This guy is singing about Istanbul, in German to a latin beat, while the video is in Cuba Magnificent
I saw this video before TH-cam took off. around 2004...It was on a web site called ebaumsworld. I contacted the maker of the video and asked him why the video is called 1976...He responded that the pictures were made in 2004 but it looked like they were living in 1976.
I asked the creator of the pictures and video and he told me "The pictures were taken in 2004. The title of the video is 1976 because it looks like 1976."
I have been looking for it for about TEN years! I got it on a Mix CD by a guy that fancied me and never knew what the song is called. LOVE that I rediscovered!!!
I heard this, vaguely, in a restaurant, and promptly lost it. speaking of losing it, I almost didn't find the song title. Whaaat it's RJD2! Buddy! Shoutout to Berkeley's Eureka on Shattuck and Center
Really the only problem with this song ever is that it's way too short ... don't matter at the end: I have been listening to that shit for almost 18 years now!!

The lyrics to this song are in german. In 1976, Istanbul, Turkey, there was a major terrorist attack in which 4 were killed and 20 were wounded by Japanese Red Army terrorists in an attack at Istanbul airport. Translated into english, the song is about a guy admiring a woman's beauty comparing it to one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Istanbul. Song's about appreciating other humans in my opinion. For facts...ask RJD2. Amazing song, nonetheless.
Thank you. I always understood 'Istanbul' in their lyrics but never knew the backstory. I just assumed that since so many turks live in Germany this was a song with german lyrics sang by some people with Turkish descent.
German lyrics about Istanbul (Turkey)...filmed somewhere in South America ( looks like cuba or panama etc )...By an american artist...probably using some japanese/chinese video camera...
And 10 years later I still love this song. Forever in my heart.
RJD2 was dropping so many incredible instrumentals around that time, it was just ridiculous

One of my fav tracks
I know this song from a local skate video way back in the day, Before I got into rj2d.
Still probably my favorite track by him due to the nostalgia.
heard this one in the first redbull bc one with some bboys doing mad stunts 13 years ago. what an experience.
Na minha época de Bboy essa música era minha favorita, sempre que tocava eu dançava com uma empolgação que eu pensava que era o lilou. 😂
I saw RJD2 live in concert on my 25th Birthday back in 2004! Abbey Pub in Chicago!
This joint is still dope after 13 years! What a CLASSIC!
I was given a copy of "top 8" of RJD2's hits. I only knew this as "Track 5"
Omg... I've been trying to find this song again. Thank you Google listening.

Desde hace tiempo buscaba esta magnífica pieza. 🙏🛐
Everytime I put this on in the background while I browse, I always end up watching the whole video.
