A slight correction. In GU the attack difference between daora and zin HBG was minimal. Daora in practice only got around 1 extra damage a pierce shot, while zin got slightly better slicing ammo damage (which you use to charge valor), that more or less made up for the slight damage loss. Because of this, zin was almost always taken over daora, unless you already have 1-2 zin guns on a team. This ironically makes it even more OP, cause imagine all the crazy things valor pierce can give, and now it just can get a free para too with the siege para 2 shots.
God.. The Kelbi Bow was the most braindead weapon ever created , it was crazy. Now I wonder which weapon type is the best per generation since the weapons showcased here need either a specific build or a few steps.
Glad to see that almost every monster hunter content creator favorite MH is 3 tri just like me, but I introduced MH to my friends with World and so I can't explain to them why we need aquatic combat back 😭 It's just the vibe, the freedom, the music... Hope to see a MH7 in Moga islands or some new archipelago... But I hope someday we will get a reboot or a PC launch of legacy games...
To me who is a gen 5 newcomer this is really interesting, in world everyone would say LS was undoubtedly the best weapon taking everything in account, but others like bow and hbg were absolute beasts in terms of dmg
I tend to agree with him. I skipped out on pretty much all of gen 4 until Gen Ultimate came to switch because I can't stand playing MH without a second stick for camera control. I also wasn't a big fan of Rise, but to be fair I wasn't a huge fan of World either. I feel like the 5th gen brought too much streamlining and casualization to monster hunting simulation, and Rise only doubled down on that.
Lance in mh1 was god tier. Particularly, the fatalis lance. Though I remember everyone called it headlocking. You had to time the 3rd poke to get the headlock. Made farming rathalos plates a dream!
I remember one of the most broken class in 4U is the charge blade. Set up properly, you get easy KOs, be almost untouchable with most monsters using guard points, and BIG BIG damage. I remember my hammer using friend being very salty that I got all the KOs.
This video is weird because not only do you not have any specific criteria what constitutes as "best" or "strong", but the picks are also not really good. In MH tri, the clust bowgun is literally only used for 1 single monster. And you needed 4 players to actually pull off this strat. That is 1 single multiplayer matchup it's best at. It loses to close range pierce in literally every single other matchup in the game. Not to mention the most agreed upon best weapon for general purpose hunting is the Alatreon lance. Why use the Crimfat lance in G when you could also clust Fatalis in that game like Alatreon in tri? There's no real logic behind this choice imo. The kelbow in 3U is also just wrong. Like straight up. It doesn't even win in its own category because the Brachy bow is better for slime spread bows. That's also not even factoring in the actual best weapons like the HBGs with the underwater ammo cycle glitch or just the raw power of 4 pierce siege HBGs that far outdamage kelbow, or the other op guns like God's Archipelago and Miralis LBG, which just shit on monsters solo and online. The info on GU bowguns is also completely incorrect. So much misinfo, holy shit. First of all, Challenger gives 15% affi in this game, secondly, nobody uses this skill on HBG. It's more expensive and less strong than using Crit Eye 3, which most of the meta sets use. Secondly, Repeat Offender increases stacks per ticks, not per shot. It's maxed out after two shots, not six. Additionally, you can't get this skill together with Weakness Exploit unless you have a 2 skill charm, which is extremely rare. If you're save editing op charms, it is just worse Crit Eye 3, so this skill only sees use in matchups where Weakness Exploit isn't good to replace it. It has about a 30% usage in TA, while WE has 70%-ish. It almost never replaces CE3 outside of extremely specific, non-optimal charms (e.g. I have a pierce 4 tenderizer 4 OOO which lets me add it via Neset, but not CE3). The pierce crit distance is also wrong. Pierce 1 has a much smaller crit distance compared to pierce 2, which means that you actually have much less leeway with your positioning. This is the reason even TA runs and hame runs still use shot booster, because the pierce 1 crit dist is really shit. You only have about a 1 roll window to keep it without SB, which is really bad. Pierce 2&3 have a much better crit distance and can forego this skill in pretty much all relevant matchups. The reason pierce 1 is better is because it has better motion values and average recoil requirement. This means higher raw bowguns use it and the damage concentration on the weakspot is higher. The crit distance is not a reason this ammo is good, in fact it is its only big problem. And finally, the Daora HBG is not considered the best HBG as far as the meta goes. It is second place behind the Orcus Quarcus. The slot is actually quite important for some god charm sets (e.g. the hotblooded set or the full GX Old with AuS are only possible with 2 slots) and the para siege is important on some matchups and for a couple of multiplayer strats and limp stops. The 10 raw is also not as big of a deal because Orcus has slicing 2 and it takes until the second full combine for Daora's to overtake it, damage-wise. The much bigger deciding factor for choosing Daora is the deviation, because Orcus gets small L/R deviation from temper, while Daora gets large L from it. The Orcus can also buff teammates with Demon armor in multiplayer, which is a huge buff (1.1x sharpness, 1.7 crit dist for bowguns). The TA use rate of Orcus to Daora is about 2:1 right now and there are few reasons to take Daora unless you never use para or demon shots and can't make a better set from the extra slot. It's definitely worth using a lot of the time, but as of right now, it's behind Orcus as far as meta goes, both solo and online. I would've liked this video a lot more if it included all the games and you had done a proper layout of the criteria and actually researched the games as well as checked back with the current best players to ask for their opinions. They would disagree with most of your picks here.
I absolutely adore Berserk Strife Dual blades, so powerful yet so comfy. And if you get lucky with your charm and qurio crafting, you can combine them with skills like blood awakening and mail of hellfire for even more power and survivability.
Honorable mention should be: -MonHun Portable/Freedom with Sword and Shield Got it's damage increased by 50% cuz back in og Japanese MH1, MHG and the international MH1 release, SnS was very underpowered. Only ever carried by element alone. So, together with nerfing Lance, they buffed SnS by an outrageous amount. So much that 2 quick slashes of the strongest SnS were stronger than the unsheath attack of the strongest GS in the game. Yes, the range is still an issue, but, if you know your way around it, SnS is the most powerful weapon in MHF.
I used to avoid playing range weapons especially the bowguns, but Wilds seems to be making it more fun to try. Might be the first MH that I'll enjoy using them

@@jacktheomnithere2127 Yes and no, it has high potential but compared to other options like Valor LS, Valor GS, and especially Valor HBG, it's kind of meh-- especially on monsters like Fatalis or Nakarkos who are unaffected by most of the boons of Chaos Oil. Honorable 4u mention: furia sedition, the seregios hbg. It has really high raw, positive affinity and big clip sizes for pierce 1 and 2. The auto reloading of 1 bullet per evade made it so you could go a long time of dodging and shooting before actually having to reload. Arguably the better hbg for playing without a status gunner/siege hbg team composition

surprise for many generations gunner Being absolute monster annihilators but not a single community MH community nowadays talk about it until capcom touched LS then we got MH Drama about LS again.
Exactly. And for it to be even slightly close to the power of other weapons like bow, you have to always stay inside the goddamn circle and keep it up at the expense of your wirebugs, when you also need them for your counter switch skills. And if the monster decides to stay outside of the circle or not attack you because it's doing literally anything else, you'll have to stay there doing nothing while Harvest Moon runs out. And in the Berserk/Strife roasting section, he describes chugging max potions like it if it was freaking herbs he was talking about. Yes TDS, being immortal is fair because you still take knock back and have to constantly stop attacking to sheathe your weapon, switch scrolls, heal, switch scrolls back again, and then chase the monster because you've probably got very far away from it to be allowed to heal in peace.
The bowguns required a modicum of interest in range weapon, which a lot of people don't have. LS on the other hand, attracts the most players, so naturally it's gonna get the most hate. There's a reason why LS is the most popular weapon in almost every gen it's been in, yet not being the best weapon in many of them.
@@sammidul4080 okay but what they did to Gunlance for the longest time is a war crime, seems to be very fun in Wilds though! and shelling scales off raw now!
Team Darkside, it has been almost 10 years since I first started watching your videos (MH4U content). Guild Quest Weapons were the reason why I played the game so much, and my favorite was the Sea Emperor's Sword.
The combination of Lao Canon and Auto reload was called "La-auto" in Japan. Btw, MHF was running over 10 years with many updates, so it's like having sevaral generations in one game. I think it interesting that every generation of MHF had different Best Weapon.
Can't believe you've omitted the autoguard gunlances in MHP3: Autoguard activates even when shelling and reloading, hence when facing incomming attacks, just shell away in a brain dead manner. That's essentially the guard equivalence of the dodging capacity of Valor Style in MHGU, combined with the explosive qualities of slime.
I would love to see a video about the most OP builds in Sunbreak for each Weapon. I forgot how broken those endgame skills were in Sunbreak. I’m going through Sunbreak for the 3rd time with a new group of friends and I forgot how to play my weapon efficiently with all the armor skills I had on. Something about having to hit the monster a certain amount of time to build some kind of meter. Lol
My Gunlance gameplay was to spam Bullet Barrage as much as possible. So Skills like intrepid heart gave me one free hit of invincibility every time time I land a certain number of hits. I think it was one Wyrmstake and Bullet Barrage or two Wyrmstakes and a FullBurst.
I played HBG in sunbreak. And I loved it. Sure, it was busted but almost every endgame monster had the potential to one shot. Which made spiritbugs kinda necessary to farm before any big fight :/ But I always felt like Sunbreak was a “Shoot’Em Up” as a gunner, dodge and counter big attacks while constantly shooting at the monsters. Pew pew!
Even though the Sunbreak Dual Blades were less cheesy than everything mentioned before them, they were still the only ones to get sarcastic commentary... Chat this is sus ain't it? 🧐
No one ever talks about the dual blades. Everyone is talking about how broken long sword is in rs and I really doubt if any of them even bought the expansion
@@siruiwang640 LS is hard to use, often annoying (because it's playstyle is purely reactive and you're often just waiting for the monster to collaborate), and it still does less damage than stuff that's even easier to use, like, well, DB's. One of the lesser known is insect glaive in MHWIB. It’s not particularly strong but it’s absolutely brain dead. After collecting all the essences you can just just run around and constantly sending your kinsect at the monster. With matching element you can take down anything lesser than fatalis with minimal effort. Strife berserk bow is more ridiculous than dual blade in MHRSB
I hate how almost every other TH-cam never gives a straight answer for which weapon had the highest capabilities. Thankyou for not saying "well, every weapon is viable".
Wasn’t the chernobog’s scythe one of the most op weapons in 4U? The high sharpness, 45% affinity, on top of sleep element meant every other second the monster was either stunned or sleeping?
And now, my question for 2 years: which is the strongest weapon (not type, weapon) in all history of monster hunter main series games? Which have the Highest damage (probably a MHRS weapon)?
I remember tri aleatreon kicking our teams arse like crazy. There were 3 of us, and we always got our butt kicked. Then one day a guy in our lobby asked to join, first time I learned of the power of sleep bombing.
Bowguns, particularly HBG, is basically at the top of the list for every game starting with 4 lol (3 had broken slime, MH1 and 2 sounds like ya can’t buy enough ammo to sustain it for every hunt)

I had no clue about the game what so ever due to my English not being as good as it is now and good lord, I was finally able to go online on the game at a friends house and we saw a player in some crazy black armor with a lance. Ofcourse it was Fatalis, happened to get in a Rathalos quest with one of those players and I was in awe when I saw that player headlock Rathalos. I Guess it was around 2007, because I remember the servers closing
Can I ask what the source of the weapon usage stats at 0:34 for MH1jp is? I didn't even know this type of data was ever available anywhere, because it seems farfetched to me that the same Lance that had the Black Dragon Spear and could headlock monsters to death was somehow the least used type in that game.
BDS in MH1 was one of if not the most used weapon in 5-6 star hunts. Lance was not the least used weapon IMO. That goes to the bowguns. I only saw those on Fatalis and Lao missions consistently

2:27 dude thats just "we have horizon zero dawn at home"
To me who is a gen 5 newcomer this is really interesting, in world everyone would say LS was undoubtedly the best weapon taking everything in account, but others like bow and hbg were absolute beasts in terms of dmg
That’s only said because the community is heavily biased against LS. To the point people lefit would make up lies about it.
LS ain't even top 3 in any hunt lmao in Iceborne. That weapon was so damn weak in terms of DPS. Gs, HBG, LBG, Bow, SnS were all way stronger.
trust me, it's hammer
You spelt great sword wrong friend 😂 nah jks
Conclusion:
Please nerf lance, dual blades and range weapons
And buff LS PLEASE
>doesn't like the 3DS
>lavishes praise on MHW
>doesn't like Rise so someone else wrote that segment
We could not be more different as MH fans lmao
I tend to agree with him. I skipped out on pretty much all of gen 4 until Gen Ultimate came to switch because I can't stand playing MH without a second stick for camera control. I also wasn't a big fan of Rise, but to be fair I wasn't a huge fan of World either. I feel like the 5th gen brought too much streamlining and casualization to monster hunting simulation, and Rise only doubled down on that.
tbh I don't like playing on my 3DS anymore.
I'm sorry chriss... you hate the 3ds???? What'd it do to you????
I absolutely adore Berserk Strife Dual blades, so powerful yet so comfy.
And if you get lucky with your charm and qurio crafting, you can combine them with skills like blood awakening and mail of hellfire for even more
power and survivability.
25:42 a lot of appreciation for these two warriors that are willing to hunt Plesioth in Freedom Unite.
I miss that damned Bambi Bow. Nothing survives Bambi!!!
Could have at least mentioned Teostra bow from generations even if you hate the 3DS lol
the Hellblade lance is the best weapon in that game
Honorable mention should be:
-MonHun Portable/Freedom with Sword and Shield
Got it's damage increased by 50% cuz back in og Japanese MH1, MHG and the international MH1 release, SnS was very underpowered.
Might be the first MH that I'll enjoy using them
You missed SnS in Freedom 1. Its the most OP weapon in that game.
could it be considered OP in GU? because Chaos Oil 3 was a thing, and Striker Style allowed you to equip 3 Hunter Arts at once.
@@jacktheomnithere2127 i feel like sns in GU is def op but that game has stuff that's like even more stupidly op so ig it's all kinda relative haha. def an op version of sns but not on the level of the truly overtuned shit in that game imo
Why is it that op? Maybe I'm using it wrong, but I've had a better experience with the Greatsword even though it's not nearly as good as it is in newer generations.
The usual 5-attack combo most speedrunners use deals about 80 mv on top of 5 elem hits, which pales in comparison to a lv 3 Valor Draw at 115 mv.
@@jacktheomnithere2127 No because its competing with HBG in that game. In Freedom 1 SnS motion values were that broken that one combo was better than 2 and a half from GS.
Amazing video! you guys ignited my love for the series and made me hunt for each iteration of MH available even emulated :D
So the sponsor is basically just horizon zero dawn right?
Bro, they didn't even try to hide it with that red stealth grass.
Horizon zero ark
Even the robots designs often don’t hide how close they are to horizons…
And the armour glowing blue upon taking damage as well
but, but, reddit told me that Longsword is the most OP in every game?
its worse in TH-cam comments
Especially in MH1 :)
Gen 1; the only time Lance users were feasting like kings. but i say they're eating well in Wilds.
i say this because, since one of my sets is going to be called "Knight", my secondary weapon will be the Lance (primary being my main, the SnS) - and i've used it a few times in Iceborne and Sunbreak, and it was a fun time.
MHGen & MHGU Striker Lance were up there as well, comparable to Valor LS.
Just wanted to share that this game you're being sponsored by (LIGHT OF MOTIRAM) actually looks really cool, nice job with the ad... oh, and the whole video of course, as always.
Honorable 4u mention: furia sedition, the seregios hbg. It has really high raw, positive affinity and big clip sizes for pierce 1 and 2. The auto reloading of 1 bullet per evade made it so you could go a long time of dodging and shooting before actually having to reload. Arguably the better hbg for playing without a status gunner/siege hbg team composition
havent watched but I swear if in any list you put LS over HBG, then I know it's not serious
edit: okay its serious
Started at Freedom Unite and man I don't even know what I'm doing, my brother just let me play to get me occuppied. Used lunastra dual blades and fatalis armor just because it looks edgy and cool af. Good old Days 😂😂
I love this type of videos. It's so nostalgic
Finally! Been waiting for a video like this for years!!
Seems disappointing to say the "best weapon" in MHW is just a specific ammo type that was nerfed very early in the game.
no iceborne mention..
@@saltyluigi4011 hey guys lets finish the video before commenting!
surprise for many generations gunner Being absolute monster annihilators but not a single community MH community nowadays talk about it
until capcom touched LS then we got MH Drama about LS again.
The community blatantly is biased against LS and confidently turns a blind eye to gunners literally always being better
The hate usually come for other mele weapon player, because Capcom didn't giving enough love for their weapon of choice 😅
@@sammidul4080 okay but what they did to Gunlance for the longest time is a war crime, seems to be very fun in Wilds though! and shelling scales off raw now!
Team Darkside, it has been almost 10 years since I first started watching your videos (MH4U content). Guild Quest Weapons were the reason why I played the game so much, and my favorite was the Sea Emperor's Sword.
the best weapon is what you feel is the coolest sh*t design and u grind tf out of it doesn't matter how many times you slay the beast over and over.
Paralysis SnS was the MVP for me in MH1. It trivialized so many fights for me, because you could just paralyze monsters over and over again.
Me but with the Girros SnS in MHWI. lol
I can’t believe that horizon clone actually convinced yall to do a sponsor
like ?? I actually was kinda shocked 😭
It actually looks good unlike horizon 🤷♀️
maybe its a fun game
The combination of Lao Canon and Auto reload was called "La-auto" in Japan.
Btw, MHF was running over 10 years with many updates, so it's like having sevaral generations in one game. I think it interesting that every generation of MHF had different Best Weapon.
7:50 Shoutout to ol' Linus 🙌
Can't believe you've omitted the autoguard gunlances in MHP3:
Autoguard activates even when shelling and reloading, hence when facing incomming attacks, just shell away in a brain dead manner. That's essentially the guard equivalence of the dodging capacity of Valor Style in MHGU, combined with the explosive qualities of slime.
base generations was forgotten as hell....Teostra bow *cough
Predictions for the most OP weapon in Wilds?
aw no honorable mention for Narajala longsword holding the entire game hostage in base MH4
Lol
I’m a Gunlance main and these are the skills I have:
Defiance lv4
CritBoost lv3
WeakExplo lv3
Artillery lv3
StunResist lv3
WirebugWhis lv3
Hellfire Cloak lv3
Sneak Attack lv3
Wind Mantle lv3
Powder Mantle lv2
Heaven sent lv2
Crit eye lv2
Load Shells lv2
Evade Extender lv2
Redirection lv2
Intrepid Heart lv2
Bloodlust lv1
Frenzied Bloodlust lv1
Shock Absorber lv1
My Gunlance gameplay was to spam Bullet Barrage as much as possible. So Skills like intrepid heart gave me one free hit of invincibility every time time I land a certain number of hits. I think it was one Wyrmstake and Bullet Barrage or two Wyrmstakes and a FullBurst.
I remember these days in Tri. Everyone without the full set got kicked out. I think our fastest run was 1:42 or 2:42 on Alatreon.
I played HBG in sunbreak. And I loved it. Sure, it was busted but almost every endgame monster had the potential to one shot. Which made spiritbugs kinda necessary to farm before any big fight :/
But I always felt like Sunbreak was a “Shoot’Em Up” as a gunner, dodge and counter big attacks while constantly shooting at the monsters.
Yeah... this community apparently just can't stand Longsword for some reason
The motorian is a a Horizon combine with Ark Survival Evolved
Don't forget some elden ring and a little bit of monster hunter.
Capcom: *Released new feature
Developers: *nerf WanWan/Crystal Maiden
@TeamDarkside theme on 16:40, is it from FFXIV? If yes or not, give name pls)
It's the Lunastra theme from World
@@peco_mh Thank you very much ^^
@@Aeroslav no problemo👍
One of the lesser known is insect glaive in MHWIB. It’s not particularly strong but it’s absolutely brain dead.
After collecting all the essences you can just just run around and constantly sending your kinsect at the monster. With matching element you can take down anything lesser than fatalis with minimal effort.
Strife berserk bow is more ridiculous than dual blade in MHRSB
I hate how almost every other TH-cam never gives a straight answer for which weapon had the highest capabilities. Thankyou for not saying "well, every weapon is viable".
no portable 3rd ? :(
The best Weapon in the whole series is: the Weapon which make you the most fun to play!
Light of motiram seems like a mix of monster hunter, horizon zero dawn, and ark survival
Wasn’t the chernobog’s scythe one of the most op weapons in 4U? The high sharpness, 45% affinity, on top of sleep element meant every other second the monster was either stunned or sleeping?
Do you have any weapon and armor tips for fight Primordial Malzeno? It's the first quest when you meet it.
Greatsword, my beloved.
All I remember:
MH3: blast kelbi bow
MH4: blast element insect glaive (crimson fatalis)
shit was op in my friend's circles
And now, my question for 2 years: which is the strongest weapon (not type, weapon) in all history of monster hunter main series games? Which have the Highest damage (probably a MHRS weapon)?
Great video! Thanks for your hard work!
Came here for Awakened Kelbi Bow bullying monsters so hard it might be a warcrime.
Was not disappointed.
funny how ls went from amazing in rise to absolute meme in sunbreak
get in the countercage, ls wagie!
Here's hoping Gunlance becomes one of the Better weapons in Wilds when that Drops I seen how great that performed from the Beta
I remember tri aleatreon kicking our teams arse like crazy. There were 3 of us, and we always got our butt kicked.
Then one day a guy in our lobby asked to join, first time I learned of the power of sleep bombing.
Ark had a baby with Horizon zero dawn. Bruh from me.
Bowguns, particularly HBG, is basically at the top of the list for every game starting with 4 lol (3 had broken slime, MH1 and 2 sounds like ya can’t buy enough ammo to sustain it for every hunt)
22:22 Spoiler warning if you're trying to stay away from MH Wilds content, unfortunately I did a good while avoiding spoilers until this video...
A correction: its not a 25% damage increase from sharpness multiplier 1,25 to 1,50. Its a 20% damagage increase. Still big though. Subscribed
That ad transition was funny as all hell lmao
Heavy Bowgun? They're indeed uniting in freedom.
kelbi slingshot is such a great memory that i don't even think are possible to recreate in the modern era of MonHunt 😂
I found a 2nd hand copy of MH1. I struggled SUUPER hard with Kut-Ku.
I think it’s good to say what is also the most broken after final patches
Can I ask what the source of the weapon usage stats at 0:34 for MH1jp is? I didn't even know this type of data was ever available anywhere, because it seems farfetched to me that the same Lance that had the Black Dragon Spear and could headlock monsters to death was somehow the least used type in that game.
man, I remember clust lobbies in tri. Good times.
BDS in MH1 was one of if not the most used weapon in 5-6 star hunts.
Lance was not the least used weapon IMO. That goes to the bowguns. I only saw those on Fatalis and Lao missions consistently
I used lance for most headlockable content in mh1. When the online hub had "claw day" we would bust out the heavy bowgun and do fatalis runs!
I totally forgot how insanely broken slash ammo was because I never used it.
25:41 "Gotcha Beach!" 😂😂
Slime was OP, I remember *_blasting_* my way through G Rank with Brachy's Hammer
I totally remember Clust Alatreon rooms in Tri, ah the good old days.
Have you always been the Boss in TDS Chris? Have Played with you a few times when tri was new.
1:54 that rathian....that poor rathian....
9:45 I nearly fell off my chair lmao
This is gonna start some conflicts
MHR dual blade is me vibing my LIFE as a DB main and DB main only
Was expecting Cluster or Spread HBG for how easy mode they were in MHW, but forgot all the the pre-PC shenanigans.
Akantor X has to be one the best MH players in history, i remember watching his unite videos man is insane
MHXX doara/zin HBG, so much fun. The gun shots sounded amazing too in siege stance.
