Just came back to this after many years and it flooded such a lifetime of nights back to me, not entirely in memory but in feelings - both good and sad. Thank you Pete, I’ve never stopped loving you.
It’s a bittersweet thing sitting here at 23:20, the kids have gone to bed and reminiscing, listening to this song. It’s brings me so many memories and emotions back. I remember how it was being young and excited for life. I wouldn’t give up what I have now but I’d love to just have one night again being 18 standing in front of the stage at the Carling Academy, waiting for the band coming out.
@@harrywiseman4379 may his soul fly high, god bless both of you. We carry those we lose with forever. Keep your heads up lads. We don't stay down for very long. 💪
That’s where Stephen Street was a bad influence on his vocals. When Mick Jones produced he allowed Pete to sing naturally in the moment like a live take, but then Street encouraged him to go for it in a vocal booth and really project his voice but it doesn’t suit his songs
This song brings back so many memories, the good old days and nights in Camden, when new friendships and new loves would just pop out of the blue, and everything felt sweet and warm.
You’re so right. It takes me back to when I was a 1st year apprentice. I would be at a gig every weekend in Newcastle, I didn’t even care who was playing but I’d be dancing away there and feeling invincible, I never even seen age coming so fast.
Pete’s voice honestly makes me cry because it’s so sweet and beautiful. This vocal melody is one of my favourites, especially the chorus: “This way I always be and to see you now and help me on, you know they like to knock me down but I don’t stay down for very long” ❤ wistful nostalgia and a beacon of light in a world that, at least for me, is otherwise marred by a crippling sense of anxiety and despair.
Their way Forces your hand There was no way to tell you I just hoped you'd understand I was waiting for you Alone with that boy He needed a sympathy He just didn't want to have to say why This way I'll always be (for you) And to see you now and help me on You know they like to knock me down But I don't stay down for very long I couldn't win but I could lose And so the time had come and I knew I'd have to choose But that kiss, I take to the end Until the time I get to see you again This way I'll always be for you And to know you now will see me through (Away) you know I knew you there And to see you know and help me on You know they like to knock me down But I don't stay down for very long They try to sing their wayward song But oh what a way I found
That Guy so much endured the worst words and stìll he goes on doing genius. Excuse my french mais ce mec est une valeur sûre. Vive la poésie vive la guitare
i saw them live 4 or 5 years ago. Littl'ans opened babyshamble's concert and played this song. A week later I bought the single and couldn't help listenin to it. I still love the song. a good tune is a good tune.
Fuck!!! I love this song!!!! How the fuck is posible that this video's got only 8406 views? Peter Doherty: The MOST underrated artist of the 2000s! Fuck'em all! Pete Rocks!
One of the most beautiful songs of all time, in my book. Of course I have also thought about what he/they mean with the song. But it's not that, it's the vibe/mood of the song, the emotion, that I connect to a lot somehow.
I agree with you, The Libs and Pete himself have had recognition and had appeared in so many "Greatest" and "Best of" lists of the noughties (i.e. NME conducted a poll in which they included Pete as one of the greatest musical heroes of all time, just to name a single mag.). What I meant, is that they're very underrated by the public in general, music and rock fans alike. They're known only in the UK and some Europe countries, but not in America or the rest of the world. PS. I'm from Colombia.
...and yes, those were other times. Good times btw. Where indie bands, or bands coming from the independent scene used to get the hype they deserved (Smiths, Oasis, Blur, Suede, Stone Roses, etc) times where rock and guitar music was the main genre in the world, the main character, those were the biggest acts in the world, and it was cool to go buy their albums and concert tickets and ask 4 their songs on the radio and TV. Nowadays it's only about pop shit commercial music and electronic music..

I can't listen to this song without crying my eyes out. My friend died, and this was one of the songs he would always play. RIP Tom, I love you, bro.
Tom Wiseman? I'm his brother. I miss him so much.

@@nathsweeney7488 thank you, really kind. I'm in an extremely dark place right now and could do with Tom's wise words. We will be reunited someday.
My man Sean I used to skate with showed me this stuff. Really funny talented special dude I miss allot
i am new to pete doherty's music and i feel like in the last month or so i have stumbled across a million brilliant songs
His voice is fucking beautiful when he sings softly
I think that's his strength and he doesn't play to it enough
soooo beautiful!

i’m turning 18 this year and i’m going to really live it, as i know it’ll be gone before i know it.
Have a blast man
Still amazing in 2021!!!
Great little tune.
Love the video, it's so peter, British, avant-garde, bohemian etc.

All my life i have needed a verse like Pete's. Pour Jean-Luc Maetz. Frrom her daughter Gaëlle.
As Jamie Redknapp would say: Top, top song. Lovely little song, Richard.

SoundCloud
Probably because Littl'ans aren't on spotify. It's their song and Doherty is singing.
i love u pete
❤
Why Pete Doherty doest mistake any song eh did?? why??!!
Fuckin genius
This song is Amazing and i can only say that about a handful of songs. Peter Doherty is a genius but that damn heroin is rotting his brain.
Zipper Bean he didn't write this.
Look at him now, he appears to be happy and healthy and enjoying cheese instead of heroin ✌🏼
Better than sex
But I don't stay down for very long. . . .

A guitar and a drug habit and they treated him like public enemy number one lol 😂
