Very good in depth review. I did not listen to Nightwish the last couple of years but I'll check this one out. And: I could not have framed it in words like you did, but I experienced exact the same with the Time II album from Wintersun. Its also not catchy, perhaps overarranged but also orchestrated more in the way of classical music. I like it and it definitely gets better with every listenthrough. Thanks for opening up mind for a broader spectrum of music.
This album goes ahead on the Nightwish form with Floor Jansen vocals - even though i'm a eternal Tarja fanboy. Luv her era in and out Nightwish. Anette's era NEVER worked good, mainly because her pop pop-corn vocals, and of course, behind the band. Tuomas has his band like a stunning baby. He never took something - apparently - to fix the bullshit and massive abuse the rioting fans was dropping against Anette. But, the past is the past! Loved this album and out of the weakest pop selling albums, this record occured for me like an surprise 😮, "Hyraeth" made me cry. "The Antikytheria Mecanism" attacks the ears with the power dropped from Floor's voice. "Sway" is a great iconic balad on dueto, the rest of the record occured very fine. "Perfume of the Timeless" and "Ocean with Strange Islands" enriched up my attention. Very very good experience here friends 😋😜
thank you ! this is one of the few reviews that are not coming from somebody who did just one passage listening. I agree, this is not an easy album and not a cup of tea for everybody. (i'm also a gamer and love soundtrack scores). I think this album is an evolution of the band , i love the old stuff , from the more straight-forward metal with symphonic elements to this album where the orcherstral part is playing WITH the band, is part of the band. And of course i'm always mermerized by the poetry of the lyrics (made by a Finnish guy ) , and the incredible artistry of all the members. Floor Jansen is not only a good singer, she can make you FEEL the song , the meaning behind it. The noble art of a concept album is strong in this one.
Nice to see Nightwish and Archgoat on the same channel. Love both! Great review and 10 points for the thumbnail!
Cheers!
Thanks Mr. Kurunen. A classy review!
Edit: oh by the way, the best Paradise Lost album is "Host" (1999).
My pleasure, glad you liked it. Host is better than given credit to, but still far away from being my fav.
Thumbnail is genius.
Nice review, honest opinion. Greatly appreciated. 👌
Such a great review, this guy knows about music, very objective, 👏🏻 great job
Thx!
Jerry just gets hotter in the thumbnails 😮!
Great album, love it - Nightwish are my “guilty pleasure” journey when I want a palette change from the extreme metal world
For my acquired taste, this is definately the best Nightwish album.

That white dressed guy is pope Leo XIII. Still the album is great, especially the 3cd earbook. 😎🤘
😆
It's pronounced Yester "Wined" not "Wind" from Floor.
Ok. I didn't get the memo. Just the album.
