I’m surprised how few are those who love Nachzehrer. I think it is a very versatile album with some of the best SW songs on it. The sound is quite smothered, but works great on that album. BTW Jerry, are you going to talk about Warloghe in this series? Would love to hear your thoughts about it! They slayed at Turku Saatanalle this year!🤘🏿
Satanic Warmaster are definitely one of my favorite Finnish black metal bands from the melodic side of things, i think Fimbulvinter is my favorite one from him though the newest one was very high quality. I feel like his work has just gotten better and better though Carelian Satanic Madness will always have a special place for me as it was the first one i heard in the early 2000s.
Love Catamenia. Their second album, Morning Crimson, is one of my favorites from Finland. With that being said, I’m surprised to see them here as well 😅
Really surprising that Catamenia and Ajattara are In the top three. Is it the mainstream thing that C and A have wider population listening streaming services and true black is listened on physical formats...perhaps? SW is reigning on both :D Also how long bands have been In streaming services. Does that effect and how much. I think SW for example has uploaded albums to Spotify quite recently and late compared to many others. All In all great video and insights once again!
Really surprising indeed. But I guess that's because they have fanbase outside the typical black metal audience who are into a bit more raw and less mainstream sound. Also the amount of albums of course affect, not to mention that stream platform presence.
I got really into Satanic Warmaster again just recently. Even though I knew I always liked the earlier stuff it just fell out of rotation of the usual stuff I listen to for a few years. I heard Opferblut again and suddenly felt like whoa I forgot this is almost my ideal of a certain style of black metal. Strength & Honor is incredible too. I actually started to lose interest as his albums continued forward, CSM was still good, Nachzehrer had a little bit of the old style still coming through, but as time went on it felt like something had changed. Still completely quality and proficient music better than most bands, I guess I just like those first albums so much that I feel like the later stuff is missing something. I listen to something like his newest album and just don't get hooked by the riffs like I used to. Looks like I missed a few reissues of his earlier work on vinyl over the years, hard to find any copies to buy in America.
After Nachzehrer he went for more of a full band sound with big production along with The True Werwolf - Devil Crisis which is essentially just another SW album under a different name
I have the same thing, @bonka_mann - that's why I said those Torech years are the golden ones. After his departure the style started to change for a bit worse. The newer ones have better production, which I don't mind, but the song-writing just is not as good.
Ajattara is a strange case, I never hear anyone talk about them but the first 3 or 4 albums are pretty unique, some kind of mid paced really heavy dark metal. I guess they are listened to more by some Finnish mainstream audiences. Also what's with the stupid Christmas album?
Satanic Warmaster’s older-mid era stuff was awesome but if I’m being honest the 2022 album didn’t do it for me and Nachzerer was decent but not great. Fimbulwinter in 2014 was outstanding!!! A 10/10 album. That and Carlillean Satanist Madness and Opferblut and Strength and Honor were all killer albums!!!
Nightside should earn a spot in this series!! HELL Rauta!!
I think I will mention it later on when I close towards bands that are less known.
Great bands and explanation. Catamenia is one of the most underrated melodic black metal bands imo.
Thank you!

Yes, of course Warloghe is going to be in the series. :)
Vitun kova juttu!

Aye. I will talk the whole discgraphy and other stuff more in detail with my SW retrospective video coming out.
HAIL SATANIC WARMASTER!!!! HAIL AJATTARA!!!!! CATAMENIA IS STRANGE THING , THAT MELODIC METAL BAND , NEVER BE MY CUP OF TEA!!!
Really hoping you’ll talk about Azaghal at some point. They’re super underrated and don’t get enough attention or recognition.
Yes, of course it will be in the series later on!
Hell yeah Satanic Warmaster rules! Carelian Satanic Madness is my favorite
One of their finest.
Mine too. Pure excellence.

I must say, I never gave them a proper listen until for this video. Not my thing really.

I have original first press ajattara first album.great finnish black metal!!
Indeed they are more like heavy dark metal than outright bm. That christmas stuff - nobody understands why they made those.
Harja hampaat. Sinulla näyttää olevan pohjahampaissasi piiraakan munaa. 😀
Mitä on "piiraakan munaa"?
Meillä päin tuota kutsutaan hammaskiveksi. Joo, pitää poistattaa.
