  • It happened. Riding down the expressway, and my saddlebag came off. It slid across the expressway into the median. I had the standard ¼ turn bolts that held my saddlebag in place. I got home, and I wanted to replace the ¼ turn bolts with something a little bit more reliable. I know, a lot of you out there have the ¼ turn bolts and have never had an issue. Well, I was one of you, until it happened to me. I remember Ryan Urlacher posting a video on Feb. 4, 2018 about the Rickrak saddlebag system.

Kind of ironic he had posted another video with information on another saddlebag retention system on Mar. 28, 2019 just after my saddlebag fell off.

I contemplated ordering a saddlebag system from online, but I had a knee jerk reaction and wanted to fix the problem that same day. I came across a youtuber, Juelz Reyes, who went to Lowes and purchased some materials to make his own saddlebag retention system. His video link:

The items I purchased for this system are:
    Hillman Replacement Knobs 5/16-18x 1 ¾ Model No. 884516 $3.63
    www.lowes.com/...
    Hillman U Nut 5/16 in Model No. 882983 $1.23
    www.lowes.com/...
I incorporated the washer that came with the ¼ turn system along with another washer and lock washer. I didn’t purchase these items because I already had them in my tool box. Now this retention system isn't going to allow you to remove the saddlebag as quickly as the 1/4 turn system. You can cut down the 1 3/4 knob down, but I decided to leave it which would allow more of the threads to keep the saddlebag attached in case it starts to back out. Thank you for watching.

Drill a small hole in the bolt and put a clip through it when tight and it can’t loosen and fall out

Did the same thing bro. Lowes, followed this video. DIY EASY and saddlebags are secure.
Had a saddlebag fall off at 45 MPH. Not fun!

    Hey there!
Thanks soooooo much, for such a Helpful video!
I have been looking every where for a Video on what is used, and how to do this.
Here is a question for you, and I doubt if you monitor this post, any more...but....if you do get this message, my question is....are all of these parts from Lowes?
What in the world would those knobs ever be used for?
And those Threaded receivers.....are they from Lowes as well? They look as if....you would get those at an Auto Parts store, instead of Lowes?
    But....what do I know? lol
Can't believe, that a zillion more people, have not replied to your Video?
    Like WTF?!
    Great Video.....and Great information.
Those Harley Pins are a JOKE!
Funny how so many guys, actually defend those Pins, and they all say....things like....."I have Ridden thousands of miles and Never ever had a problem with those Pins"!
Or they will say....." Pins like that are used in Aircraft and in Nascar's etc"!
If that is the case.....Im NEVER Flying again....and I am not Racing in the Daytona 500 next year..No matter how much they beg me! Bahahahaha
They could just be Lucky..or....the rest of us , are just plain Stupid!....or maybe a little of Both!
Regardless....Id rather have those Bolts holding on my Bags any day.....than counting on those Prehistoric Pins!
Until I get down to Lowes on the weekend....Im still using those Pins, that seem to always Back Out on my Bike.
Just in case.....I have Two Zap Straps / Quick Ties on each Bag....just in case...and there is No Way, that they will ever be able to Fall off.
I'm thinking ....that putting even One Zap Strap on each Bag....will be another Safety feature, just in case, the Bolt was to ever back out.
Seriously....How often do we have to Remove our Bags?
The Zap Strap...can be Easily Cut off, when need be.
Thanks again for the well done Video.
    Much appreciated!
    Cheers
PS:.....Has anyone ever told you, that you look a lot like Brad Paisley?
You just need to go out and get yourself a Cowboy Hat! lol
    Thanks again!
    Love your Music! Hahaha

So the knobs are Hillman Replacement Knobs and the clips are Hillman 5/16x18 black phosphate steel U nut. I did purchase them from Lowe’s in 2019. You should be able to pull them up on the website or app to see if your store carries them. Thanks for watching the video. Hope it helps you.
