I absolutely love this game to bits, but that bit with the elephant still makes me feel super guilty. 😭😭😭
Well, that was kinda the point: putting their selfishness before their child and partner regardless of how much it hurt any of them, with the justification that it would surely be better anyways despite never making a real effort. (ie: This is why counseling and other helps are a thing.)
(Sure, not EVERY divorce is because of one or both parents losing sight of caring about their family most, but this is about that kind.)

I played this game with my 9yr old nephew and then played it a second time but swapped characters. This game was an absolute blast.
Nowhere in game there isn't said that there won't be divorce. Cody explicity said: "Whatever future bring, we will always be your parents". Thats why i apricate it even more
This game is what happens when you let creative-types actually be creative. Definitely in my top 10 games of all time. I dont remember the last time I'd had just so much unadulterated fun playing a video game. 10/10!

My favorite story related to the topic of divorce is still 1993's Mrs. Doubtfire. Apart from the stellar performance of Sally Field and the rest of the cast's dynamic within a heartfelt narrative, it's easily one of the late Robin Williams' simultaneously funniest and most emotional performances. You get to know everyone's POV throughout (the father, the mother, and the children).
The ending where Daniel (as Mrs. Doubtfire, on his TV show) responds to a child's letter about her own parents' divorce was so touching for me when I first saw the movie as a kid (being a child of divorce myself, at a young age where I struggled to understand it). It really helped me come to terms with my mom and dad splitting up, realizing that sometimes it's for the best.
Yes, for the children, it usually hurts and can hurt for a long time. But it can hurt so much more when parents try to spare their kids by forcing themselves to stay in a situation where they fundamentally aren't happy. This can not only bring out the worst in them. It also risks unintentionally hurting the kids more in the long run, even affecting their own capacity for relationships.
I know from experience that, as painful as divorce can be, it can lead to everyone involved being happier & healthier. As strongly as many of us may wish that every man and woman who procreated could be a loving, romantic couple with an idyllic family dynamic, it's just not that simple and never will be. Whatever our cultural norms or beliefs on divorce, that's the harsh reality.
I'm divorced and I saw that movie with my son when he was 9 or 10. He cried in the end and gave us a great opportunity to talk about how he felt about the divorce.

As someone who grew up on the other side of this, whose parents _did_ stay together "just for the kids," yeah.. you're _absolutely_ right. I know they just wanted what was best for me, which makes it even harder to say this, but I'm so glad I don't have to live in that hellish home anymore. If the kids are the sole reason you're staying in a dysfunctional relationship, please.. don't.
Glad this game won game of the year. The elephant scene is more brutal than any of the most violent games ever made.
Hades was better in every aspect.

It takes two was just fantastic. It was just so impressive that every level had a unique mechanic
I played this game with my 6 yr old and damn that elephant scene was hard for both of us
@@thotslayer9914 yah. We've completed a few games together. Borderlands 3, unravel 2, halo, takes 2, lego games and currently working on Riders Republic (she does the mass races and places 5-15 usually)
@@thotslayer9914 It's not hard. Gamer parents are all over, they just don't (usually) run around with ninja outfits screaming it out at the top of their lungs. Some parents are football lovers, some love games, others love cooking, etc. Same goes for kids, and it's epic when they share hobbies.
I feel strangely intrigued by this game for even tackling such a mature and complex topic. And doing so with such earnest!

uh... at first the parents hate each other, but then have to do a bunch of challenges, which makes them like each other again. except since they didn't actually fix any of the actual problems with their marriage, the whole thing is just going to fall apart again. the game is great, but it felt like it was written by the people who wrote disney movies in the 50s lol
It's honestly one of the best couch co-op games that I've played in a while. Definitely worth checking it out imo

Good God, I haven't played the game, but that five second clip of them killing the toy made me so sad
it's by far the roughest part of the game....
They show no remorse for that scene, and are more disappointed that it ends up not helping them.

How'd you find my wedding vow?
I played this game with my ten year old, and he had a rough time with the elephant scene. I couldn't stop laughing at it, the over the top brutality. The mechanics in the game are brilliant. I didn't expect this game to be as good as it was. :)
It is true, if parents loved their children more they would not get divorced.
We loved this game. Very charming, and mechanically simple enough for a non-gamer to enjoy.

I played this with my partner and it’s our all time favourite but now that we finished we’re feeling orphan… does anyone know any other game like this?

In terms of co-op experience these are one of the bese that me and my SO played together 👍

Not exactly the same vibe, but Children of Morta is pretty good as a co-op game. Great deal of collaboration needed, topics about family, fantastic environment and lore. My partner and I really enjoy it.

If you're planning a "Pokémon Legends: Arceus" Honest Trailer, here's what you should call it at the end: "Pokémon Snatch." That's what Arceus is at the end of the day. It's "Pokémon Snap" only instead of taking pictures of Pokémon to document them, you're capturing them to document them.
