    Okay guys seriously if you don't like her don't comment
    She is a great rider that's why she is jumping there and not us
    And as for people having trouble with bits just shut up about it your just causing a fuss
    She wasn't yanking she was either adjusting the horses stride or keeping it's mind on the job I know I'm a show jumper (not at this level) obviously!
    Her horse respects her otherwise it wouldn't trust her but in big crowds with lots of noise I'd run too
    But seriously stop being so imm

    The whitakers are never cruel to their horses I agree, but my old instructor rode at HOY's and her daughter went up to ellen and asked for an autograph while ellen was drinking a pint. Ellen said "No. I've been doing them all day and i'm sick of fans!" and carried on drinking! Please bare in mind the little girl was 6! But yeah, a great family of riders! xx

    I have ridden many showjumpers, up 1.40m classes so don't judge me. And her horses buck because they are young and full of feed. When she's at these events she doesn't go there to train her horses she goes to compete, that's why she doesn't make a fuss of it. She trains at home as most riders do. It's different at shows etc some classify that as a "training run" but these are proper events

    Ever since I read in a magazine interview that Ellen only lets her horses out in the field for one hour a day I lost respect for her.... a horse should be able to be a horse whether it be an expensive competition horse or not!! They're living creatures, not just money making machines :)

    I'm just talking from personal experience, I've been riding for 12 yrs, am only able to once a week, but my legs always hurt at least a bit the next day. I take this as a good thing as it means I have worked hard and therefore ridden properly- with the horses I ride you pretty much need your legs on constantly. I don't mean literally dripping, but surely you can't deny that riding is hard work and it makes you sweat? Everyone at my yard would agree-I see them after lessons looking knackered!

    @Bubble734 It really doesn't matter if the horse has thicker skin. It's meant for natural purposes to protect them from their environments, not to be whipped. Most of these horses get slaughtered after there's no use for them. Some people find this a sport, which is laughable because the only person doing the work in this case is the horse.

  • @MissStooShee

    Ellen is a really good rider- who wouldn't take a tumble after a stop like that. To be honest if she did hurt her horses surely it would have come out by now. I agree with 27misssophie. she is a lovely person. i have a really good bond with my horse and we still took a tumble at a one day event this year:s

    @XxpunchyMunchxX It's a competition they do every year at HOYS (horse of the year show). What happens is there are five fences and each round they go up, with the fences getting bigger throughout the course. If you get a refusal/pole etc then you're out :)

    I own a mare and I honestly dont think I would act any different if i didnt own her I dont act snobby or think im better then anyone else, I let my friends who dont have their own horses on my mare. I just think people think that because we own or horseride we act as if we're higher then them because its expensive?I do agree though that many people do argue over little things but I think it's because horses are animals, there alive and can feel things,People will always argue about that.

    Actually, the main idea of a noseband is to prevent gaping. I don't use one - don't need one. But make no mistake, grackles can be extremely severe and do NOT as a general rule improve breathing. A normal cavesson does all the job you normally need ;) And look at the majority of racehorses - they do NOT wear nosebands (see I'll Have Another in the Kentucky Derby and he certainly did have breathing assistance in the form of that strip!!) some do, but not the majority.

    to whatever person we are arguing with: if you don't half halt horses who have a strong lead to the jump, they will take a bad spot, or over jump and then have the chance of HURTING THEMSELVES. What would you liked her to have done? She was in no way ripping on the horses face it is called a strong half halt. I don't like using them either but if you need to too control the horse it needs to be done. though, I would love to know what kind of push button horses you are riding hahaha

    Scoutpup you are right a lot of girls do that and I love all the horses I have rode in my 8 years of riding. No I don't have a horse but ever time I win or not win I still say "you did will" to the other girls. what are you supposed to use, then? Nosebands restrict horses breathing and pulling on them makes it harder for them to breathe, bits don't interupt air flow as horses don't breathe through their mouth.

    @annaunddaslicht yeah coz falling off is really cruel..??
    horses' skin is really thick, hitting doesn't hurt them like it hurts us. She was the only person in the situation and as a skilled rider she obviously felt it was necessary to hit the horse-this could have been for safety, if her horse learns that it's ok to refuse all the time she is a lot more likely to fall, and if the horse had not been 100% going for that fence the next time there could have been an accident.

    the horse was rushing the jumps abit so i can see why she had her reins tight. after all, you dont know the horse so you cant make assumptions about her riding ability.

  • @horseybabe12100
    @horseybabe12100 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    For a starter Ellen Whittaker didn't "beat" her horse it's called discipline, you won't find any good horse that has never had a "smack" in it's life she obviously doesn't want her horse spoilt. She has an amazing talent and the horses don't do the work for her, its 60% horse and 40% rider, when you can ride as well as her then you can criticize her but until then keep your mouth shut!! Secondly She doesn't yank on their mouth the adjusts strides and her horses buck because they are either youn

  • @cantcanter
    @cantcanter 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    and I've said, I don't like how Ellen is riding and how she doesn't let go of her reins.
    That said, just because your horse was abused doesn't mean that it's an excuse to let him get away with things. It sounds like he knows that using a bit means he can be naughty, and you won't punish him for it. Plenty of abused horses have bits and work fine, using the excuse 'he was abused' really counts for nothing.
    My boy has a bit because he's strong, and you need control. He has a strong bit.

  • @nevilleandjazz2011
    @nevilleandjazz2011 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    how else is she supposed to make the horse slow down huh?
    yes she shouldn't be constantly pulling at the bit but this arena isn't that big and negotiating turns, at the right speed and the correct amount of strides, these horses are often energetic and need a little bit of reinforcement to make the horse listen. Just reminding you that the horse weighs so much more and it takes heaps of skill to work out the strategy that works best for you, in her case it is making the horse listen.

    Horse slaughter is done very humanley in the Uk, having rescued 3 horses from slaughter I should know, its very pain free and calm and they have to have DEFRA vets there and clean the whole place out after every horse to keep the stress levels down! Sorry if you think this horse went for slaughter but I very much doubt it did, and yes top competition horses that have lost their buzz do go for slaughter unfortunately but its a fact of life and its not your decision.

    @gammon30162 There's no video evidence that has been uploaded. Consider this: of course there is no video evidence, no one wants to persecute her because she's loved by the fans of this sport. If this was escalated, the committee would come under fire from animal rights groups, but there are accounts of people seeing her get frustrated and beat her horse. I am quite sure she was embarrassed and doesn't do it anymore or at least does it later when there are no cameras around.

    @mystables97 If they had dodgy legs i don't think they'd be jumping this height lol :L I just think horses deserve to be out in the field, to be themselves for longer than an hour a day! Horses can't be wrapped up in bubble wrap for the sake of competitions, their well being is far more important... but that's just MY opinion :)

    @tulipsxw2 I'm not denying that horses are slaughtered, I'm aware of that and think it's terrible (although don't really see how it's very different from other animal slaughter) but the horses being slaughtered are NOT top competition horses who are no longer competing, they are normally unwanted + unridden (not saying that's a good thing.) I think racehorses who don't make it are occasionally killed but racing is a different sport to showjumping/dressage/eventing.
