Surprising how one would think such a huge snake would be slow and clumsy, until it actually starts moving. And scary, considering that even if a person is not usually it's prey, such a powerful python could easily overpower even an adult if it wanted too. Those things are 100 pounds of solid muscle.

@Sam Holdsworth definitely not, I've seen pythons half as long that weigh 250. This one is 20+ feet and super fat. It may have just eaten so that may be making it look fatter than it normally is, which would also explain why it retreated so quickly and had no interest in confrontation
That is definitely the biggest south African rock python I've ever seen. That is a dangerous snake if you have no experience in large pythons this one no one should never get near!

I’ve never seen a snake that large in a completely open field with no cover like trees, bushes, leaves, foliage etc EDIT: I’ve read comments saying along the lines of “it has no reason to hide” or “it isn’t worried about being out in the open and exposed to predators it’s to large”…..that’s not what I meant….a snake that large would never be able to catch it’s prey items being in an open field like that, it’s huge and any animal that even got close would see it and run. That’s why huge snakes like that typically are hiding around trees, bushes, leaves and foliage…it provides camouflage and they can ambush their prey.
Pretty sure it's not worried about being carried off by an airborne predator. I've seen decent-sized snakes (1 - 2 metres) sunning themselves on roads and roadsides, usually in the mid to late morning hours they are warming up.
The fact this snake is out in the open outside it's comfort zone tells me it's not afraid of humans and will strike if it wants especially if it's hungry. That's solid muscle ladies and gentlemen, and it's moving pretty quick for such a monster of a snake.

They sit nearly motionless for hours at a time appearing barely alive. So when people see one guy the first time out in the open moving faster than they can run it’s alarming. Jason thank you for telling us you never had a snake without telling us. This snake is moving 2mph not fast at all lol anaconda and most pythons do move slow unless there in water as there “ambush hunters” they don’t chase down there prey.
Had three pet pythons back in college, the largest one was almost 6 feet and was insanely strong. When you hold a python, you realise that they are nothing but muscles under that scaly skin. I cannot even image how strong something like this would be, it's easily over 20 feet. Scary.....

Find it a bit weird it’s out in the open like that. Wouldn’t it prefer being under trees/forest? Couldn’t something come down and make a go at it? I guess the size allows it a bit more flexibility and range of motion. Either way I’d feel inclined to shoot it so it wouldn’t snag a child or a pet etc.
Phenomenal creature. Imagine seeing a titanoboa, or however it is spelled. Sure we are lucky we dont live among such large beasts as the dinosaurs or giant snakes or sea creatures, but man, if only we could see them up close like if a museum were to make full scale animatronic models or something that were truly convincing!

Can definitely eat children and adult. Reticulated pythons hunt humans. Reticulated Pythons eat big preys weighting 500 lbs. Some individuals can definitely eat someone like big show.

I've kept several different species of large constrictor as pets over the years. Burms are the nicest and can truly be called dog tame if raised properly. The Retics and Rocks never seem to get anywhere close to that tame. Always gotta be real careful with them. Especially around feeding time.
After several assorted boas and a rock python, got a male reticulated a few weeks old. As it reached juvenile age, about 7 feet, became hyper aggressive. Attacked and bit if possible, coiled up and sprayed if managed to grasp. No fun
Cool thing is once there big enough you'll become dinner, sdh, I'd like to see you train it to sit ,or speak, anything coil up, tame? Dude one day you'll see what I'm saying, meanwhile hopefully no kids live in or around you and your pets!!!smdh

Never underestimate a snake in general, the only thing that would keep you safe is keeping enough distance from it. It could use 3/4 of it's body to strike with so that's a lot for a snake this size, beware....
Not for long. People always fall down or crawl away when chased by large things that want to eat you. Or Hollywood monsters starve. Sometimes they do everything they can to jump in the monsters belly.
The sound of the grasses moving in the wind as the snake treads through the Savannah is this snake in it's element, no music, no annoying narrator, no one trying to kill/move the creature, the animal is simply navigating no different than any person would be - likely trying to find shelter before the rain. Very cool footage.
I always picture these things living in jungles or swamps…it’s weird to see it out in the middle of these hills…but then again, I’m not exactly a biology scholar🤣
@@sarahflett4247 this is in Balito in the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal,South Africa(in case you’re not South African)...this is part of their natural habitat, Kwa-Zulu is home to these things along with one of the most venomous and fastest snake on Earth,The Black Mamba. They rule in that province...however it’s not that often that you see these in such open planes...chances are there’s a ravine nearby with massive rocks where they hibernate. These things are lightning quick,don’t be fooled by that massive size...this one looks like an two year old...the length of the tail is a good telltale mainly. Wait til you see a massive 15,18,20m behemoth,it is scary to look at from 20m away I tell you.😉
The python was heading up the hill to its prime hunting spot. So it can ambush its pray as it heads up towards it and the top of the hill gives it some descending speed if it needs to give a bit of chase.

My Uncle ran "Snakes Alive" attraction in Chimney Rock, NC and he had "Penelope", which was an Indian Rock Python that was close to 20 feet long. It weighed 200 pounds. I was an 80 pound 10 year old at the time, and my dad was nervous when I was handling it; I could have probably become part of Penelope's body if she had decided that it needed to happen...

It’s a regular sighting in the hills of Ballito which is in the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa 🇿🇦...there’s most likely a rocky ravine nearby where they hibernate/its habitat. This looks like a younging...it’s no strange to spot a giant 15/18/20m behemoth in these parts of KZN. You haven’t seen or heard the power of this thing until you see it constrict a fully fledged Bull(Cow) from 20m away or so, you literally feel and hear the bones of a cow snap and crackle when this thing is about to swallow its prey. Caveat: pyhthons are lightning fast,they have the quickest reflexes of any big snakes,especially when hungry,it takes a split second for a giant 20m to strike from 6/8/10m away...it’s worse when their intended target(humans) are on their side(outside their periphery) or behind,they are highly instinctive and strike with so much speed it’s unbelievable. I heard the sound of a child,though it’s very rare that they charge head on but if it so chose, it would go for that child with such velocity that no one would dare be able to stop it...that’s how quick this giant is,alas the video’s not doing those movements justice,witnessing this thing move in real life is a pretty sight to behold but devilishly scary😉 Visit KZN,Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces if and when you wanna see these babies in action. ✌🏿🇿🇦😉

I came face to face with a snake that looked remarkably similar but about half the size, under a bridge in Arlington, Texas. My best guess is somebody dumped it once it got huge. I was walking through shin deep water when it exploded upward, standing to eye level. It loudly hissed, then bolted out of the tunnel into deeper water.

that's a free meal in the field like that to privative men living hunter/gather. it has very little defense if 2-3 grown men attack it with basic stone weapons. one guy will take the neck the other the body and tie the mouth off with basic string like material early man used. once the mouth is tied off it's all over, it can't constrict 2+ men working together with the mouth clamped down or a bag on it's head.

I've handled a 4 ft snake once and even though it was skinny, I felt its strength. I cant even imagine what kind of power this animal has

I've kept several different species of large constrictor as pets over the years. Burms are the nicest and can truly be called dog tame if raised properly. The Retics and Rocks never seem to get anywhere close to that tame. Always gotta be real careful with them. Especially around feeding time.

After several assorted boas and a rock python, got a male reticulated a few weeks old. As it reached juvenile age, about 7 feet, became hyper aggressive. Attacked and bit if possible, coiled up and sprayed if managed to grasp. No fun

Not for long. People always fall down or crawl away when chased by large things that want to eat you. Or Hollywood monsters starve. Sometimes they do everything they can to jump in the monsters belly.
The sound of the grasses moving in the wind as the snake treads through the Savannah is this snake in it's element, no music, no annoying narrator, no one trying to kill/move the creature, the animal is simply navigating no different than any person would be - likely trying to find shelter before the rain. Very cool footage.

@@sarahflett4247 this is in Balito in the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal,South Africa(in case you’re not South African)...this is part of their natural habitat, Kwa-Zulu is home to these things along with one of the most venomous and fastest snake on Earth,The Black Mamba.
They rule in that province...however it’s not that often that you see these in such open planes...chances are there’s a ravine nearby with massive rocks where they hibernate.
These things are lightning quick,don’t be fooled by that massive size...this one looks like an two year old...the length of the tail is a good telltale mainly.
Wait til you see a massive 15,18,20m behemoth,it is scary to look at from 20m away I tell you.😉

The python was heading up the hill to its prime hunting spot. So it can ambush its pray as it heads up towards it and the top of the hill gives it some descending speed if it needs to give a bit of chase.

My Uncle ran "Snakes Alive" attraction in Chimney Rock, NC and he had "Penelope", which was an Indian Rock Python that was close to 20 feet long. It weighed 200 pounds.
I was an 80 pound 10 year old at the time, and my dad was nervous when I was handling it; I could have probably become part of Penelope's body if she had decided that it needed to happen...

It’s a regular sighting in the hills of Ballito which is in the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa 🇿🇦...there’s most likely a rocky ravine nearby where they hibernate/its habitat.
This looks like a younging...it’s no strange to spot a giant 15/18/20m behemoth in these parts of KZN.
You haven’t seen or heard the power of this thing until you see it constrict a fully fledged Bull(Cow) from 20m away or so, you literally feel and hear the bones of a cow snap and crackle when this thing is about to swallow its prey.
Caveat: pyhthons are lightning fast,they have the quickest reflexes of any big snakes,especially when hungry,it takes a split second for a giant 20m to strike from 6/8/10m away...it’s worse when their intended target(humans) are on their side(outside their periphery) or behind,they are highly instinctive and strike with so much speed it’s unbelievable.
I heard the sound of a child,though it’s very rare that they charge head on but if it so chose, it would go for that child with such velocity that no one would dare be able to stop it...that’s how quick this giant is,alas the video’s not doing those movements justice,witnessing this thing move in real life is a pretty sight to behold but devilishly scary😉

I came face to face with a snake that looked remarkably similar but about half the size, under a bridge in Arlington, Texas. My best guess is somebody dumped it once it got huge. I was walking through shin deep water when it exploded upward, standing to eye level. It loudly hissed, then bolted out of the tunnel into deeper water.

If you have experience with snakes, you can immediately see that this snake is afraid and flees from the cameraman.
that's a free meal in the field like that to privative men living hunter/gather. it has very little defense if 2-3 grown men attack it with basic stone weapons. one guy will take the neck the other the body and tie the mouth off with basic string like material early man used. once the mouth is tied off it's all over, it can't constrict 2+ men working together with the mouth clamped down or a bag on it's head.
