Finally, I felt like insane person for liking the movie. That was great Elseworld story. You guys really voiced my thoughts on this and pointed out some details that I need to think about. Great podcast! Thank you for your honesty
I love how the movie directly shows how people don’t care about Arthur and abandon him when he doesn’t give them what they want, and then fans do the exact same thing with zero self awareness
This comments right hear opened my eyes. I was so ready for them to shit all over this movie like everyone else, and was disappointed they enjoyed it (which sounds rude now that I say it). But your comment really put it into perspective. I like musicals, I like Gaga's singing and I love the cast, why am I so eager to hate this movie just cause I though the 1st was good.
I agree and disagree. Lots of blind hate going around for this movie, lots of misinterpretation too. But your statement doesn't really seem relevant. If the fans that are abandoning their muse when they disappoint them you are referring to are Joker fans, this movie isn't even technically about the Joker. So if Joker fans don't like it, I think they have that moral right, it's not even a Joker movie. I'd even argue Todd Phillips abuses the DC name to tell a completely separate story and get the money and views by using that name.
Yo just wanted to point out that it isn’t Diedrich Bader that voices the clones and Klaus on American Dad, that’s Dee Bradley Baker, an absolute goat with an insane voice acting resume
I feel there was a lot of people that wanted to this movie to fill the hole that heath ledger's joker left and the end of Joker 1 sets you up for that kind of feeling so I do get it. But I did enjoy the movie a lot after I just allowed it to be a Arthur Fleck movie. That being said, both films are a unsatisfying take on the Joker, Audiences weren't tired of the character and looking for a reinterpretation, they clearly wanted the real deal. It's kind of interesting that this film has some parallels to the Telltale Batman game also featuring a version of a psycho Harley that is manipulating a guy coming up to assume the role of Joker.
Yeah that’s my thing with these movies. As good as they are, they never felt like Joker movies to me, cause in the comics, Joker has no origin. All we know of his past is he was once called the Red Hood, but nothing more than that. Giving him an origin, like the movies do, it never felt quite right. So having that mindset, I feel I was able to enjoy the movies much more for what they were, not disappointed that their “Joker” isn’t the actual Joker
I watched this episode before watching the movie. Watching this episode made me want to watch the movie because it gave me hope. I’m so glad I watched the movie. I thought it was a decent movie. I certainly don’t understand why it “bombed”. I guess people were hoping to see Arthur Fleck become an embodied the joker. It couldn’t agree more that this movie is truly about consequence. Great episode!!!!
Well if the it's about the consequence of snapping at the behest of an oppressive society then the lesson is... Just suck it up? I would usually say that makes sense but Arthur's life MEGA sucked so I don't think that should really apply to his character. There was no silver lining in his life to hold onto before he turned into joker. His choices were: live in an inescapable hell or go insane. The consequences of being fed up with an unfair existence lol. What a great lesson.
I'm really interested in hearing what y'all think about the new Penguin series. It's been way above my expectations. I've only ever known the characters from the Adam West and Tim Burton Batman movies. So I'm curious if there are any comics you have read where he really shines.
There's some valid criticisms for this movie but the online hate seems to be mostly unwarranted. I've seen a lot of "reviews" that are from people who clearly didn't even see the movie. If everyone who tweeted "it sucked" actually saw the movie it would have made more than $40mil. My suggestion - if you liked the first movie keep an open mind and you'll probably enjoy the sequel. If you didn't like the first movie then this sequel is not for you.
I wasn't going to go see it, but after watching this podcast (I did see the first one) I went today to see it. It was a good follow up, but just like the first one was a 1 watch movie. I never need to see either again.
@@arcadestickgaming6601it’s a good movie, but the ending makes no sense. I know it’s more far fetched, but the alien thing in the comics was more reasonable, given Adrian’s philosophy of “humanity can’t band together unless an unknown force makes them”
I don’t hate this movie but I didn’t really like it because I thought the city would be explored more, and I also thought we’d see more of him out of Arkham. But I do see what the movie is.
I can’t believe these are considered hot takes. I enjoyed it. If the ending was a reference to the 80’s joker, I don’t see the justification for the hate. If it was the father of the heath ledger joker, or something along those lines, I still don’t see it. Different writers create the stories we love and try to tie them in together or make references. That’s comics. They hint at the connections between universes and make us think of who might show up. I also think Arthur banged the dude he kissed in the movie and hallucinated thinking it was Harley. A sign of evidence is that he couldn’t get it in and asked if she could do it. Maybe the hole he was looking for wasn’t there.
