    Over all, I really like it, but I think the you are right about the gargoyles. Adding a patina of bronze or even copper would break up the large brick faces and provide a frame for each section. I think the different brick colours has added greatly to the look of would otherwise be large monotone surfaces.
    I am actually going for a newly finished pyramid for my Aztecs and as such each level will be finished in bright colous as the levels were usually rendered and painted. So red on the ground level, orange on the second level and yellow on the third, with a vibrant blue for the building that sits atop it. Nothing if not colourful, but then the army itself will be painted in primary and secondary colours. It should be my most whimsical army and represent a riot of colour on the board, with all my jungle terrain in the background.

    Ziggurat is the correct terminology for this build.
    Also something to add to the modularity, attach the gargoyles with magnets and tiny snippings of tin, that way the corner pillars can be changed up with anything you’d like; orbs, cherubs, dragon heads, piles of skulls, etc.

      Ahhhh good idea! Something to try out for next time.

    Great result with the spackle - would not have thought it to work that well when you initally brushed it on.

    This is a great take on the Frostgrave scenario, The right hand and the left hand. I love seeing your visions of the scenarios.

      @DiceChatter  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! There are definitely a handful of scenarios that need a "pyramid" of sorts!

      @DiceChatter my interpretation was a tall two stepped building with scaffold surrounding it. The shape is still a pyramid but its more versatile with the rest of my terrain.

    A fun idea might be to put magnets into those corner pillars, that way you could change out the gargoyles for other statues depending on the theme

    I really like how the gargoyles turned out. Not only do they look like they've been eroded by the elements, but since they don't jump out at you, they'll read as a lot of different things without close inspection. That could mean that you'll get more use out of the pyramid.

    • @DiceChatter
      @DiceChatter  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Very cool! Slightly tangential thought, but I bet a lot of your terrain building knowledge would carry over into cake decorating. My mom used to makes cakes professionally and a lot of steps you take in this video are very similar. I would definitely think a pyramid cake would be pretty awesome :D

  • @brendanarmstrong7802

    I think this would be a perfect choice for a super basic oil wash. For something this big and weathered, even cheap oil paint would work well. It'd darken down the spackle in the recesses and add a bit of extra color interest to the piece. Still, it looks great even just as-is!

    • @DiceChatter
      @DiceChatter  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great suggestion! Maybe something I’ll look into for future builds.

  • @manjr
    @manjr 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Sweet build! The paint job looks great with the spackle over top.
    I think for the corners, you could have either omitted the pylons and gone with mitered corners - or taken them up taller to stand above the level of each platform. That would have also provided some cover to minis on the platform.

    Impressively done! I admit, for much of it, I was wondering how you were going to do those dang corners lol - quite the creative solution! It's also a piece that I can see having uses in many terrain settings - from jungle to desert to a decidedly incongruous town. Even beyond the actual battle usage, there's all sorts of fun implications for narrative campaigns.
    Also, count this a vote for a stone experimentation video! I've seen a few different methods (e.g., all-grey, building up from a coloured base, using multiple colours of washes, etc.) and it would be neat to see how they stack, or what other techniques could be conjured. Honestly, in my experience? Stone is one of those understated, yet surprisingly difficult things.

    If you have access to a laser engraver those are enough to cut through thin eva foam 1/2/3mm it could help you get the little bricks for the side faster. Knarb Makes has made great use of this.

    That's so many bricks, but the result is amazing! The pyramid has a massive and imposing vibe, great work!
    I have to say though, the grout grabs a lot of focus by being brighter than the rest. It looks like it was done recently, as opposed to the rest of the pyramid which looks decrepit and worn.

    • @DiceChatter
      @DiceChatter  11 หลายเดือนก่อน
