Over all, I really like it, but I think the you are right about the gargoyles. Adding a patina of bronze or even copper would break up the large brick faces and provide a frame for each section. I think the different brick colours has added greatly to the look of would otherwise be large monotone surfaces.
I am actually going for a newly finished pyramid for my Aztecs and as such each level will be finished in bright colous as the levels were usually rendered and painted. So red on the ground level, orange on the second level and yellow on the third, with a vibrant blue for the building that sits atop it. Nothing if not colourful, but then the army itself will be painted in primary and secondary colours. It should be my most whimsical army and represent a riot of colour on the board, with all my jungle terrain in the background.
Ziggurat is the correct terminology for this build.
Also something to add to the modularity, attach the gargoyles with magnets and tiny snippings of tin, that way the corner pillars can be changed up with anything you’d like; orbs, cherubs, dragon heads, piles of skulls, etc.
Ahhhh good idea! Something to try out for next time.
Great result with the spackle - would not have thought it to work that well when you initally brushed it on.
Trust me, I was clenching the booty for a minute or two… Turned out great!
Always loved the idea of pyramids and Ziggurats are always good fantasy fuel. Great video as always sir.
Thanks Ryan! Glad you enjoyed the build! 😬
Great job, and I think the gargoyles look great. Keep 'em coming.
Thanks Thomas I appreciate it buddy!
This is a great take on the Frostgrave scenario, The right hand and the left hand. I love seeing your visions of the scenarios.
Thank you! There are definitely a handful of scenarios that need a "pyramid" of sorts!
@DiceChatter my interpretation was a tall two stepped building with scaffold surrounding it. The shape is still a pyramid but its more versatile with the rest of my terrain.
You want spicy?! I got spicy 🔥 Donny mate, we are literally lapping up your videos by the second! This has given me so many ideas and I frigging love how you broke the mould with that paint scheme. Keep it up bro!!
Hahahha! I love it Robbie! Appreciate it bud. Always enjoy reading your comments!
@@DiceChatter in the quiet words of Starship Troopers, I'm doing my part 🫡
A fun idea might be to put magnets into those corner pillars, that way you could change out the gargoyles for other statues depending on the theme
That is a wonderful idea!
I really like how the gargoyles turned out. Not only do they look like they've been eroded by the elements, but since they don't jump out at you, they'll read as a lot of different things without close inspection. That could mean that you'll get more use out of the pyramid.
I like the way you look at things Jacob! Appreciate the insight!
Nice build. I do really like the idea of laying bricks on office paper and then gluing that onto the structure, definitely be giving that a try.
Hope it works out for ya!
The coin idea is great. I did the same thing with loose pennies for my wall spells in frostgrave to keep the pink foam from falling.
Hey hey! Did the same thing for my walls spell as well!
Very nice ziggurat! Love the paint job.
Thank you! The ziggurat was also used as a bit of inspiration!
Very cool! Slightly tangential thought, but I bet a lot of your terrain building knowledge would carry over into cake decorating. My mom used to makes cakes professionally and a lot of steps you take in this video are very similar. I would definitely think a pyramid cake would be pretty awesome :D
Damn it Justin… each modular section a different flavor. Or maybe marbled! Uh oh…
I think this would be a perfect choice for a super basic oil wash. For something this big and weathered, even cheap oil paint would work well. It'd darken down the spackle in the recesses and add a bit of extra color interest to the piece. Still, it looks great even just as-is!
Great suggestion! Maybe something I’ll look into for future builds.
Sweet build! The paint job looks great with the spackle over top.
I think for the corners, you could have either omitted the pylons and gone with mitered corners - or taken them up taller to stand above the level of each platform. That would have also provided some cover to minis on the platform.
Appreciate the criticism. Next time around I’ll think about changing things up!
Greaaat terrain! That proxon is mega 💪
😍 The timing is just perfect for me, this was to be my next build😂👍🏻. So thank you very much.
It came out awesome, I do agree with your thoughts on the statues. Really nice build my favorite thing is the stonework, simply beautiful. Great job!!!
Happy to be of service! Hope the build goes well!
Nicely done Lord Donald! As mentioned before, I do really like the "chaotic" layout of the bricks! Well done! 👍😊
Thanks Mr. Leif! Appreciate it buddy ol pal!
Impressively done! I admit, for much of it, I was wondering how you were going to do those dang corners lol - quite the creative solution! It's also a piece that I can see having uses in many terrain settings - from jungle to desert to a decidedly incongruous town. Even beyond the actual battle usage, there's all sorts of fun implications for narrative campaigns.
Also, count this a vote for a stone experimentation video! I've seen a few different methods (e.g., all-grey, building up from a coloured base, using multiple colours of washes, etc.) and it would be neat to see how they stack, or what other techniques could be conjured. Honestly, in my experience? Stone is one of those understated, yet surprisingly difficult things.
Thanks a bunch! And I’ll happily take the vote. Looking forward to trying some random things out. Maybe I’ll find something worthwhile!
IMPRESSIVE !
Thank you!!!
I applaud you with 'The right hand and the left'
Hahaha! Appreciate it!
If you have access to a laser engraver those are enough to cut through thin eva foam 1/2/3mm it could help you get the little bricks for the side faster. Knarb Makes has made great use of this.
Thanks for the tip! Something I may look into!
Love your work mate. The rocks and bricks look so good!
Thanks Shawn! Appreciate it buddy!
Awesome work as always! I love how modular your stuff is and when I get back into building terrain again, I will follow a lot of your advice!
Thanks Cage! Glad you enjoyed the build!
I really like the paint job looks suitably ruined. Another great build, well done 😊👍
Hahaha! Thanks Harry, appreciate it buddy 🤓
looks. AMAZING.
Thanks Shane!
That came out really good!!! I've been thinking about doing one of these for along time, think this is my incentive to get it done. Thanks!
You should! And good luck!
Spectacular build!
Thanks Will!
Another great building 👏 but where are the stairs for the opposing player - which would make it a fair centrepiece? 😉 okay Egyptians didn’t built that either.😅
I love your videos, so much fun to watch and respect for trying new techniques and color schemes. Can’t wait for a battlereport containing that awesome pyramid.🙏
Good point about the stairs though! Should had thought about that. Though, I’m glad you enjoyed the build!
the content, the conciseness, the consistency, the audio, the voice over and script, the video quality, the cinematics, omg how have i never come across you before??
subbed and in love with these builds ggwp! :O :D
Welcome CastleCrusader! Happy to have you along for the ride, and I appreciate the kind words 🤓
Awesome build. Happy you’re back making videos. Your channel is top quality. Thanks
Thanks black grail! Been enjoying it as of late! 😃
That's so many bricks, but the result is amazing! The pyramid has a massive and imposing vibe, great work!
I have to say though, the grout grabs a lot of focus by being brighter than the rest. It looks like it was done recently, as opposed to the rest of the pyramid which looks decrepit and worn.
Interesting thought. You make a good point Keggers. Maybe adding a touch of an ink to the spackle wouldn't be a bad idea.
It looks great! Terrain is key for inspiration and fun gameplay :) I love the odd stones in diffrent colours (red/grey/etc).
Always want to try and mix up the paint scheme. Just happy it worked out!
Looks awesome!!!
Thanks a lot!!!
@@DiceChatter you are welcome 🤗
looks amazing ^^
Thanks! 😄
Grreat Build!
Thanks Pat!
I want it 😮😮
Too bad! It’s all mine!
Great video, love this! How long did it take you to make it roughly?
Thank you! Time wise, I'd say from start to finish accounting for dry time, a few days of work or a long weekend. Assuming you aren't working on this project 24/7!
