I’m from the u.s and have never heard of maidenhead before and so I looked it up and it means “virginity” according to google so I was so confused by how you used it in a sentence but then realized that’s the name of the shop Matt works at 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Beautiful! I knew you could buy a plant that's on a stone or piece of wood, but I did not realize that you could buy a huge piece of wood with lots of plants. That is amazing!
When you said something went wrong I was worried for a second the wood had leached tannins or something. I’m not surprised it sold so quickly it looked great with the fish swimming under and over the little tunnels the wood created. And luckily for us viewers this means we get to see you scape it again 😊
Not going to lie, I was a little frustrated on how incredible it looked with so little effort. I have spent HOURS scaping to come up to a similar level of cool. But that tank you did was super impactful, right sand, right stones, right fish, the big wood planter was literally the centerpiece and star of the show. Well done, I'm excited to see what's next. Maybe you can make up a few small /medium pieces like the others for a "drag and drop" bogwood scape collection
I'm not surprised at all that it sold that fast. That was a fantastic piece of planted wood. It looked beautiful. Hey if you have several smaller pieces of that wood covered in plants, then use those in the tank. You basically have a blank slate to work with. So, yeah, grab some of the smaller ones and scape away. OR order another log like the big one and set it up. You've already got the slate in and ready to go. It really did look great Matt. You showcased just right. Thanks for the video. Loved it.
That looks, well looked, incredible. Giving me ideas. Got another two tanks to set up. How good it could look with some wood and plants glued to it, an easy way to increase height of plants, more hiding spaces, plants with roots in water so better filtering....... Thanks matt, another idea to add to the mixing bowl
haha! Same, I would have liked a couple more feature fish in there but I kinda feel the fish were secondary to that fantastic bit of bogwood that was the true star of the show.
That planted bogwood is the most beautiful piece I've seen! Love the arch for watching the fish swim through. So many scapers fill them in. Amazing aquascape Matt!
sounds like a market and video content heaven. Make the Bog wood for video content and sell it to customers. win win. and you will get to change out a tank and re-scape on a regular basis.
Hi Matt, I visited your store on Thursday & couldn't believe the huge piece of planted bogwood had already sold. I bet it was MD, who else could've afforded it! Love your TH-cam channel.
Holy smokes, it sold already?!? Well I'm annoyingly pleased for you, to have sold it so fast, LOL But I could deffinately see how it could go that way, as it was amazingly beautiful! The way you had it set up on the slate pieces, and fish swimming under and around it, well it was just a gorgeous site to see! Looks like a great way to have an instant scape, and I hope you get another piece to sell, because I think it could be quite a popular item, for instant gratification lovers! Well, at least you have another tank to scape, maybe with MD, from it, right? :) Thanks Matt!
I loved that huge planted bogwood, and the way you scaped it. However, when the bogwood was gone, with all those small fishies swimming with the black background, it seemed like they were in space. Very nice still as the rockscape made it like a the surface of a planet. :) Cheers!!! On to the next project!! Can't wait!!!
This shows that winners win! Having the good taste to let the bogwood actually be the star it is sold it! I'd have done differently, yellowy-white sand and blue and white fish, and it would still have looked good. Thanks for showing us this. I look forward to seeing variations.
Wow! What a great tank. I hope you get more of those big big wood pieces in. It would have been cool to have it up for awhile. Anyway. It was a good sale. I bet they love it. You had it up so pretty that they couldn’t resist. 😊
Wow that's an awesome piece of wood! Would love to know how much it sold for, over here in Australia that would have easily been $500+. Great video Matt thanks.
Cracked me up When you rammed the trolley through things in the store 😂 and when you wiped your arm on you after touching the bog wood 😂 I do the exact same!
I'd have snapped that bogwood up too Fish Shop Matt. Absolutely beautiful, definitely inspired me for my next tank, as it's a centrepiece and all sides will exposed I think something like this will be lovely. Personally I think as the tank is stone then you should use stones as the main feature. Lovely video to watch.
@@FishShopMatt oh and I just finished watching it lol (as I always comment halfway through for some reason) but a shame that it got sold that quickly, although I do get it hahah, I would have bought it probably…..
I love watching you and MD. Wish I could visit your shop, but I live in Florida in the US so not going to happen any time soon. But I will keep looking forward to new videos and I have learned a lot about aquascaping and fish keeping. Thank you for doing what you do!
What a piece of wood!! Love the Reed tetra (Hyphessobrycon elachys) can’t wait to do another biotope for them within the next year or so. Nice video as always Matt
Looked amazing while it lasted! It was amazing to meet you and see the tanks in person. And see this tank before it was sold! Can’t wait to see what you did with MD
matt is so humble and really active he is what i wanna be in the future having a bestfriend doing scapes and just all in all enjoying what he loves most fish Not to mention matt you've helped me with alot of my scapes and algae problems cheers
Used to have a 4ft long log fully covered in java fern in my 6ft tank! Took so long and so much money to achieve but was worth it! This was around 18 years ago before i had camera phone so got no pics. Had sand substrate and tonnes of jungle val along the back of tank. Fish wise just had a big group of clown loach sone were about 12", then rainbow fish n cardinal tetras. Sad day when i had to break it fown n sell it off to move house.
Looks great, should there be no requirement to have a dirt/soil substrate underneath the sand to help with gaseous exchange etc. or is it because the plants aren't rooted into the sand substrate theres no need? Last time i tried a sand only substrate it went bad and stunk of rotten eggs
Hi mate, i just got myself one of these tanks. Currently cycling it and getting things ready for scaping. Will you or have you done a video on maintenance of the filter? It's the one thing I'm saying due to the way the sump is setup inside the tank. Thanks
Your fossil could just be a mineral deposit that grew between the layers in the rock in a dendritic pattern. It looks consistent with this, but the picture wasn't clear enough to tell for certain. I do have formal university level training in basic fossil ID before anyone asks.
Sooooo cool it looked awesome great scape FSM 😎 I wish my Maidenhead would stock half the different types of nano fish your store does and pieces like you just scraped I’m so far away and so jealous every time I watch yours and MD fish channels 😂😎
Looks fairly sharp and knowing you from watching...You would surely both check for edges that are too sharp AND choose fish that need all thier fins.,.
@@FishShopMatt. Could you plant your own huge chunk of wood and sell it at a profit? I suspect you would need to grow it on for a time to have it look as lovely as that piece. There wouldn’t be the shipping charges or import taxes. (I am assuming it was imported.)
@FishShopMatt Obviously I'm VERY late to this one, but that 'fossil' at the start of the video is called a dendrite. It's actually a growth of minerals between rock layers (usually sandstone). As the mineral growth migrates between the layers it branches out and looks like a leaf. It's an extremely common mistake to make, because they sure do look like fossils.
I Really curious to see the result in 2-3 month . Anubias is very complicated plant for me because always something wrong. Green spot , yellow leaf, not a lot of leaf, …

I believe you are correct andiebosley. It is known as pyrolusite dendrite and is an oxide deposit of manganese. It is not a fossil fern or plant.

I wonder how much that was sold for... and would be really cool to see you setup ur own bogwood with the plants.
