Kuhlis are so great it would be crazy breeding tank with 50+ lol. I have 10 in my 20G long (76 x 33cm) tank along with; 3 Vampire shrimp, 3 Peacock gudgeons, 7 Otocinclus, 12 Pseudomugil luminatus, and a colony of yellow back neocaridina. The kuhlis are so active all times of the day and they barely use up any bioload since they’re bottom of the food chain.
Just bought an Oase 175 and have assembled it, now need to decorate. I may well copy this scape. Love the simplicity of the cycling period. Most other tutorial videos make it seem like rocket science, with water changes every 2 days for up to 6 weeks. Thankyou for a great video.
You mentioned a small gourami. I’d go with honey gourami. They are the funniest little fish, pretty and social and very curious. I have six of them in a 90 gallon community tank with all nano fish so they are my “centerpiece fish” and they really are fun to watch.
Which hillstream loach do you fancy? Reticulated (most common in the hobby) red tail, Vietnam tiger, Blue fin, Gold Ring, Borneo, bloody Mary, abditus, or one of the other 200 or so species?
@Chompchompyerded agreed! They are my favorite to watch when they race around the aquarium. I have a two in my 29 gallon named Speed Racer and Wiggles ❤
I literally held my breath while you put the first boulder in and got it positioned! Well done! I'm new to your channel, so I've never seen that filter before, and it's so good! I love the scape! :)
Let me know which fish would be a cool addition. I am thinking Kuhli loaches, Hillstream Loaches maybe a smaller Rainbowfish. I cannot decide, but luckily I have you guys and girls.
Hillstream loaches are one of my absolute favorites. There's many varieties to choose from and the way they interact within the aquarium is so neat to watch. Obviously that's my vote.
I'm partial to hillstream loaches and I think they'd appreciate all those rounded rocks. I also really like honey gouramis because I have had one named Old Gregg in my community tank for over a year and a half and he is terrific. Looking good!
It's perfect for hillstream loaches. It will also be a perfect spawning and breeding ground for making baby hillstream loaches. The eggs and babies will go down between those rocks and no other fish will be able to get to them.
Hatchet fish would be a nice addition and not seen very often because many people don't use lids. But you have that great lid, so now's your chance to get hatchet fish.
Hill stream loaches would do well in this set-up Matt. Also a couple of female powder blue gouramis would look fabulous with the other coloured fish you have.
That is the most amazing filter I have ever seen with all the various uses (options) it has to it. What a great idea, they really re-invented the filter there. Bravo!
That was fun and I will admit I held my breath when the first big cobble was going in. I think some type of loach would be great and I do love a gourami, but whatever is decided it will be lovely.
In a few months adding a group of Hillstream loaches to comb over those rocks are a must. A group of Sparkling gourami would be a nice contrast to the barbs.
I wouldn't mind looking at that in my living room! Very nice. Big fan of kuhli loaches, you can never have enough of those. But maybe Borneo loaches? And a group of gobis could also quite happily live there I think
Borneo loaches are members of the same family as hillstream loaches, and live in the water in much the same way. Either would be quite fine in this tank. Kuhli loaches seem to be a fan favourite here, and in fact I put both kuhli loaches and hillstream loaches (any sucky loach will do) in my list. We will probably never see the kuhli loaches, since they'll just hide all day between the rocks, and come out at night when Matt's gone to bed. He'll think they've all died until he takes the aquarium apart, at which time he'll find a noodle pile under the rocks.
@@FishShopMatt It will be a good teaching moment to show people what to do so that they can see their aquarium noodles on rare occasions! Sub-substrate caves which are fitted next to the glass are one of many good solutions. Leaving a tank un-scaped and bare is another, bordering on criminal, way of doing it.
Beautiful scape Matt! I appreciate your approach and visual balance for this setup. Amazing how the simple rock foundation became elegant with the addition of anubias and a few sticks. Definitely takes a good eye to do what you do. As a contrast of scale to the big rocks, it would be cool to see some Pygmy Corydoras, who would probably breed all over that tank.
I like the concept of staying with Asian fishes in this community tank. I was thinking a couple honey or dwarf gourami would be nice. Great idea for a video, getting community involvement.
Really enjoyed this video! At first I was thinking the choice to use only Anubias would look kinda plain...but WOW! It looks great, especially with those large round rocks! I think some red barbs would really pop!
Funny how your Gold Barbs are the bravest. Mine are fully grown so quite chunky yet, they're the biggest scaredy cats in the whole tank! Always quick to hide away at the slightest movement yet, the Cherry Barbs, Rasbora's and Cardinals couldn't give a monkeys 😂
What a great setup! I love all the Anubias; definitely doesn't need more light, possibly even less. 😅 The barbs are a great choice. Kuhli loaches and hillstream loaches have already been suggested, but towards the water surface maybe a slightly bigger shoal of Rasboras or Danios, if you keep the Asian theme going.
That's a great scape Matt, I've got a 130 tall tank that I'm looking to scape and put in the unused fireplace. Everything I think I've got it planned out I see one of your vids and change my mind. Great work 👏

Nice video. I'm getting fired up to get back into the hobby. 😊 Love ❤ the way you placed the 3rd large boulder. The placement will prevent the 1st boulder from shifting & mistakenly shattering the tank.
