- Navigating accommodations in college can be a challenge, but it’s completely doable with the right approach! When Sydney started @cuboulder , she realized the process was much more hands-off than in high school. Here's what she learned and the steps she followed to ensure her accommodations worked for her:
1️⃣ Start with Disability Services: Apply for your accommodations as soon as possible. They’ll either approve or deny your request and send a letter to your professors outlining what you’ve been granted.
2️⃣ Introduce Yourself Early: At the start of each semester, email or meet your professors. Let them know you’re in their class, and confirm they’ve received your letter from Disability Services.
3️⃣ Stay Proactive: Before every exam, double-check that your accommodations are in place. Email your professor or the testing center if needed-don’t wait until exam day!
4️⃣ Communicate Clearly: If you run into issues, explain the situation respectfully and work with your professors to find a solution. Building trust goes a long way!
5️⃣ Consistency Matters: Show your professors you’re serious about your learning by being proactive and staying involved in your academic journey.
Advocating for yourself isn’t always easy, but these steps have made all the difference for Sydney. If you’re navigating accommodations in college, take this as your guide to start strong!
