How to Study Smarter, Not Harder: The Tagging Method
Natalie Wilcox, a neuroscience post-grad at Queen's University, shares how understanding the brain’s processes can transform your approach to studying. Many students see studying as a task to check off, but Natalie emphasizes that it’s a continuous process deeply connected to how our brains retain information.
In this clip, Natalie explains how studying ""tags"" memories with importance, helping the brain prioritize them for long-term retention-just like decluttering and organizing your phone storage. She shares creative strategies to retrieve information when it seems lost, like recalling peripheral details during a test.
If test anxiety or blanking out during exams feels all too familiar, this clip offers practical advice on how to encode and retrieve memories effectively. Learn how to optimize your brain’s natural processes to enhance your learning experience and ace your next test.

I’ve read that some Autistics may lack pruning- so they have extra of whatever kinds of neurons are not pruned- maybe like extra facts and tons of unwanted memories… ?! And extra sensorial experiences, potentially, too

I'm somewhere on the spectrum, and certain relatives have suggested it. I have a grandnephew who's somewhere way out on the spectrum, but the family is there for him. They're not there for me at all, instead I am banished and never invited to any family get-togethers. They seem to think I know enough to know better, or something like that. I'm glad some people are more understanding about me, but then they have no familial obligations to care that much so I'm here in a world of my own.

I’d add that over 200 genes have now been associated with autism, but yes, the overall issue seems to be lower “pruning” of less used neurons, and therefore a larger, more sensitive, more interconnected, but less organized and efficient, brain. This explains the overarching difficulty with processing inputs; either overwhelm or obliviousness; that tie together the various difficulties encountered by autists. I must say, I often feel that the goal of the world is to destroy me via information overload, but I do understand that others must just process much more quickly… and yet I am very bright, able to understand and retain information very well… given enough time… 😮‍💨
