    "what the hell is that?" THAT would be what is called a hurdy gurdy

    I think this song is awesome and that this band deserves more recognition than they're getting because there aren't too many bands that makes music like this, in the traditional folk singing style, adding orchestral pieces and some metal on top, to give it more depth.

    The song is about God's creation, humanity's rebellion and it's inevitable subsequent fall.

    My aunt used to have one of those hand-cranked harps back in the day. She called it a "Drone Harp." I dunno if that's the correct name for it, but it certainly fits. She bought hers in Israel.

    They're truly amazing, this band and these guys. I've had the honour to meet some of them at my first ever show this year and they're just the sweetest. I love this song, and like you, I also thought it was "effing cool!" So you're not alone. Great vid! Enjoyed it. ✨😊

    Good critique Pete, as always. I agree about the length. They do play live with choirs and orchestras. It would make a great theme song to a game set in Viking times. Cheers matey. btw I love your intro !

    'What the hell is that'? That is a hurdy gurdy, the instrument you were interested in in the Eluveitie song, King, believed to originate sometime before the 11th century in Europe or the middle east. It may not be metal, but there is a band called Arcane Alchemists that feature one. If you're interested, the song Transmutation is one you might enjoy

    The whole thing with this band is that the mixture of gregorian vibes are SO strong that i just cannot love it! as i have not been a big fan of slower paced Folk metal, but am a huge fan of Gregorian chanting and all things medieval in sound makes me happy to have found this mixture!
    I remember how tho, I was live streaming on twitch tv and was playing some old medieval like games while I was listening to mostly Folk and more Folkish like metal when this came on. I had to quit the game because those vocals killed me really damn hard! I loved it!
    When I later found out they are from Gävle I had to ring my friend who lives there! Amazing band with an AMAZING sound, Wish I could meet them to get some tips on how to sing like that!

    I don't know why but I hear a little bit of Týr in this song.
    Týr is a band I think you'll like. Folk/Norse proggy metal band with loud and clean vocals.
    Their sound is somewhere between thrash and power metal. Most but not all songs are in english.

    If you like folk metal you should react to one of the genres founders Cruachan! Their songs focus around Celtic myth, legend and putting a metal twist on traditional Irish songs. I would say listen to "Galica," "Some say the Devil is Dead" or if you in the mood for some sacrilegious fun listen to "Pagan" or if you hate kids "Blood for the Blood God" from their last album

    • @swarm69
      @swarm69 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      chris davis I like doom conan and electric wizard are up there in my favorite bands but even they aren't afraid to swap it up with regards to tempo. I mean idealy it gets slower right? Shifting the tempo down to glacial is still a change.overall i wouldent say this felt very doomy, not slow enough and i didnt feel like i was beeing crushed to death at the bottom of the ocean by the sheer heft of the guitars. Still just not my bag I suppose
