@@dave_clarke I mean, most of placebo records got really lukewarm reviews and his guitar playing itself is never regard by publications or other players even. You can be famous and still be underrated but I see your point

The guitar on Placebo's first album is what encouraged me to start playing guitar and looking back both my guitar and bass styles take a lot of influence from Placebo
Surprised (well, maybe not) that you went here, and I love it! Placebo was amazing live. Dude, you're on a sonic kick lately... I was blown away by your Sonic Youth riffs videos. I love how you isolate the riffs and sounds so damn perfectly whatever you play. I have played these songs, too, for a long time, but the clarity you bring is helping me become a better player because I've missed some important nuances -- saying this as an amateur guitarist of 30+ years. I am still learning every day and don't often come across people interested in these sounds very often. Thank you, Bloxsy.
Thanks mate. I want to do some more Sonic Youth as there's so much to explore by them! Yeah I've found myself paying more attention to those nuances by playing this way. It's helped me too.
Saw them this weekend at download and they were great. Played mostly stuff of the new album but they played bionic and infra-red which are my favourite songs
One of the first decent bands I got into as a kid in the early 00s. Brilliant choice! I was only reflecting recently on just how excellent Sleeping With Ghosts is so I’m glad to see you featuring some of the best riffs from that album.
love these sort of big pedal note riffs, very much my own style of playing too. alongside the tone and riff selection you've got awesome rhythm man great stuff
Just popped "Without You I'm Nothing" into my car's CD player again today after a looong time of not listening to anything Placebo related, and guess what was the first recommended video in my feed next time I got online? So just remember, your devices are most definitely always listening to you, and I guess I'd just like to say "Hi" to whatever CIA lackey is having to review/monitor all my boring ass activity.
I expected the last entry was going to be a literal placebo, where you didn't actually play anything but did something to make it seem like you are great guitar player or something.
@@MrColaKO The first album is very different too. From "Black Market Music" (despite being a good album) Placebo didn't change his sound and structure.
May i offer my own top 10 of their riffs?)) 10. Pure morning 9. English summer rain 8. Black market music 7. Evalia 6. Lady of the flovers 5. 36 degrees 4. Hang on to your IQ 3. Every you and every me 2. Come home 1. Come home (again!!!))) Thanks))
first impression of this band. i thought their riffs were gonna be much heavier and badass, the name of the band made me think so, placebo sounds menacing
Thank you. There wasn't any particular pedal. I used a Boss Katana amp and all the sounds were from there for the whole video. On Nancy Boy and Bitter End it was just a Distortion effect. On Meds it was just a 'clean' setting but using the neck pickup for a softer sound. Hope that helps.
Thanks. I have only just realised how to save the patches recently so haven't really done it before but I'm going to start sharing them somewhere, if I can. I didn't have the Placebo patch saved unfortunately, I just always set it in the moment.
Your sound is so good for play placebo ! Sorry for my enflish man, i'm french 😅 What pedal do you use for having this sound? What is your adjustment ? Thank you !! 😊
The guitar has Wilkinson hardware in which is very good. The pickups are Wilkinson p90s. I'm happy with mine anyway but the squires are also meant to be good but I haven't played them.
I had never realised how boring placebos riffs were before this video. I also hadn't realised how unoriginal they are. It's like Sonic Youth if Sonic Youth had zero inspiration.
This was great! May be an unrealistic suggestion, but any chance of some Mansun? Take It Easy Chicken Wide Open Space Legacy Everyone Must Win A good few gems
Brian Molko is a really underrated player/songwriter. Amazing
Yeah, he really knows how to write a song. Probably doesn't get enough recognition.
Yeah, he is a poor guy who writes great songs and works at walmart, very underrated
@@dave_clarke I mean, most of placebo records got really lukewarm reviews and his guitar playing itself is never regard by publications or other players even. You can be famous and still be underrated but I see your point
Many of these riffs are by Stefan Olsdal too.
@@pontonmscand on top of that he sings with vibrato and all kind of good stuff, Brian is indeed underrated
Placebo’s debut album is a collection of awesome riffs. Bionic and Hang On To Your IQ have memorable stuff too.

As a big Placebo fan I thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you for writing the tunings as well.
Thanks for watching!
Love all the Sonic Youth vibes in their riffs
Kind of like a glam Sonic Youth? Kind of.
They where huge fans of sonic youth, the guitar playing was very inspired by Thurston Moore so where the tunings

Solid playing!! Loving those riffs that basically motivated me to start learning the guitar.

Thank you. I've been a placebo fan for years now I have the time to try and learn some of their songs.
They played 2 miles away from me the other night and I could hear it. I realised that most of their songs have 2-chord progressions.
Top fare as ever, and the tone from that V65 is awesome.
Thank you for including the tunings in the chapters or whatever they are called!
No problem :)
Very underrated band imo. Nice going!
They got almost 4 millions listeners on Spotify at mount. This band had many world tours also. I don't think that Placebo underrated
Some of the finest fuzz jazzmaster riffs ever written! I would add Slave to the Wage to the list

One of my all time fav bands, since I was a kid. Love this 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Awesome video man, you nailed the tone perfectly, thanks for making this 🥺🙏
Thanks man! It was fun making it.
If I may ask, which string gauge did you use for the F tuning?
I was using a set of 9s for all the songs. I didn't change the strings for any of the tunings.
@@bloxsy_ Even the high C string? I mean, in forums I've read that the high C should be gauge 11 or 12
It probably would sound better with that, but I could never be bothered swapping strings.

Certainly takes a skill to write all your songs on one string and at the same tempo.
They’re not the same tempo, use your ears
Neither are they all on one string. As a Rush, Tool, Devin Townsend and Opeth fan: how do you figure that?
