- Thanks for all your comments and suggestions for a guitar riffs video of The Cure! There are so many to choose from and in the end I probably leaned a bit too much towards the earlier post-punk stuff (possibly due to the minimalist style of my videos), but there are a few late '80s/early '90s ones included also. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!

I love how a majority of the riffs are from the Three Imaginary Boys/Boys Don’t Cry Era. Even though the Album is pretty much a black sheep in the Cure’s discography it contained so much energy and potential. It’s criminally underrated
Michael Dempsey has to be one of the most underrated bassists in history.
@@Julio4870 the whole band was so tight even on their first album. Ironically Robert was the weakest link given he still hadn’t learn how to use and control his voice. His guitar skills are superb even early in their career
I wish Three Imaginary Boys got more of the respect it deserved. For all the albums The Cure ever made, I always keep coming back to that one because I really love the sounds on it. It's probably the most underrated album of 1979 (or the post-punk era in general).
You could already see they had something different from all the other bands of the time
@@efficiencygaming3494 same it’s legitimately a fun album
Am I the only one to think that some of these riffs would have fit on a Nirvana album?
Absolutely class. Sound is spot on. Love that Push riff
Tuve la misma sensación cuando comencé a escuchar los riffs: estos parecen riffs de Nirvana!!!!!
yes
All I want above all
4:55 END ❤👍
Unique in simplicity, born through experimenting and not wanting to play tired / trad blues-based riffs like the guitar “gods” of the day and thank heavens for that 👏
The post-punk ethos
I like how you chose some more deep tracks over singles. Really shows how good the cure is outside of “radio” songs. Love it!
Thank you!
the melody in Lullaby is so cool, my favorite song on that album
Great choice. The Bass Line in "Jumping someone elses train" is great too
As it is in ‘another journey by train’ as well.
Very nice job getting the Flanges at the right speed & level. Bravo.
Thank you! I didn't spend too long dialing it in, just went for something that sounded similar.
@@bloxsy_ speaking of flangers! what flanger do you use? and what setting do you usually have for that slow 80s post-punk tone?
Clicked as fast as I could
Thanks dude!
You had me once you started by choosing those “obscure” songs, and then you came with Prayers for Rain... and that was it... 👏😃 Absolutely perfect, mate! Thanks for it
Thank you!
I’m a simple man. I see someone cover Cure riffs, I click the video
Thanks. This proves the high quality of writing of Robert Smiths. His is one of the best composer, writer and singer in rock history.
I’d love to see a video on Siouxie and the Banshee riffs! Jigsaw Feeling is probably one of my all time favorite post punk riffs
Good idea. Add to that Spellbound and Hong Kong Garden!
2:39 is straight up skills, jumping to that chord with the quickness. Dang dude 🔥
Three Imaginary Boys is a great riff to play, one of their best and most inventive
It reminds me of Wonderwall by Oasis. A bit!
What’s the 4 chord? Em / G / B / ??
@@iamerikr make the G chord shape but go up to the 7th fret, this gives you the root note of B again but a different voicing
@@kevinbutler94thank you !!
What a cool chord - and such a great chord progression
Congratulations, you did very well!
The cure, best band ever
Thank you!
I first heard “A Forest” by Frankie Rose and thought it was so good! Fire in Cairo or Grinding Halt gotta be my favorites
First album best album
keeping the drums and bass in sync is something so simple that i think a lot of people miss when covering Fascination Street that you nailed exceptionally well
I love how your focus was on their early songs, which is where I think many of their best riffs come from. You even nailed the flanging on the "Primary" riff like a boss! Sounds just like the record!
The Cure had an outtake from the Three Imaginary Boys sessions called "Play with Me" which has a deliciously fun riff for a song that apparently wasn't considered good enough for the final album. Even their songs which didn't make the cut had nice riffs...
Thanks. Yeah I was really into the early stuff. Love the Three Imaginary Boys album, I should check out more of those demos and outtakes
the cure has so many great riffs this video couldve been double the length and still have more to do. would love a part 2. my favorite cure deep cut riff has to be Underneath the Stars. criminally underrated song and album
Love it as always. Thanks
Liked and subbed
Brilliantly played by a brilliant band 💯🔥🎸❤️
Great job highlighting Robert Smiths diverse and creative guitar style.
The bass strumming on The Exploding Boy!
All I want is my favorite cure riff. The first time I heard it I must have listened to it 50 times. So raw.
Good choice of songs and good tones. What did you use amp sims? Or digital
Processor ?
Thanks. I used a Boss Katana, using the USB output from the back of the amp. All the sounds are from there.
Excellent video. If b-sides were included, I think the demo version of "I'm cold" has a cool riff.
Great choices! Very heavy on the early stuff, which I love. You don't see too many 3IB songs played on TH-cam. Excellent watch!
Top exponent of the Fender VI. Top instrument imo.
I've never played one but it would have been useful for this video for sure.
Muy característico en el sonido de The Cure, en el album disintegration está lleno de Bajos VI y hace que me enamore de esos sonidos.
The Cure riffs are very ingenious, I could watch their entire discography in this video series
Hey that was fun. Just brought me thru so many years of my life in 5 minutes. And you did a great job!
Thanks!
I find myself coming back for this video once in a while. I love that you played End, it's my favorite by them and very overlooked
Thank you so much. I need to play some more Cure. End was my favourite riff too.
@@bloxsy_ Yeah! A second part of this video would be very awesome, so many riffs to choose from. Cheers!
love Hundred Years!
You nailed this one!! I would love to see a second part of this video
Thanks. Yeah, I will consider it!
Part 2 please
Lullaby is a masterpiece!!! it’s so pretty
my god the tones are perfect
i wish there were the settings.
i love all your videos, when are we getting a modest mouse riffs episode?
Just a slight criticism that’s not even really a criticism: 10:15 Saturday Night should’ve been in here. But apart from that very, very minor issue: all these riffs were excellent. I love the fact that most of them were from ‘79 to ‘82; as that’s my favourite era of The Cure. Great video mate. :)
Once again you nailed it!
Thanks!
Bang on as ever with the choices. The early punk stuff was so great but I really have a soft spot for the push riff
These are all great picks. The Push riff is so underrated.
Thanks for this!
Thank you!
Estos riffs son demasiados buenos... Algunos me transmiten una sensación punk, y eso me encanta.
Well done! You picked some great tracks!
Great cure riffs man!!!
Yes, finally. 👍
Great choose of Songs. Thank you 😊. All i want ist defenitly one of my favourite Tracks of all Time
Excellent job!!
Brilliant! And great to hear the oldies! Cheers!
Super !! Du debut à la fin ! Love the Cure 🖤
Great video
Sounds great
What a fantastic band they still are
Thanks mate.
I didn’t realise you were a Cure fan too. You have gone even higher up in my estimation now. Kudos to you. Really nicely played. I really love the Push riff, I can just about play it too now. ❤
Thank you. Yes I have started to become more of a fan recently. I'm into the early stuff at the moment, especially the first album.
@@bloxsy_ I like all of the cure albums, the highs, the lows everything. Even the early albums are great. Check out the cure in Orange live video if you haven’t seen it. The live version of a forest blew me away when I first heard that. Still my favourite song of all time.
fire in Cairo is a great riff to play on acoustic guitar
What a selection, really great
Thank you!
This is really well done. Great playng, effects which all sounds very accurate. I am not as familiar with the early era. Would like to hear some later stuff too. Great work on this. Thanks!
#thecure4ever!!!!!!!
Plastic passion is probably my favorite cure song !!
END - Masterpiece!!!!!
You should keep doing the guitar/bass combos. Really cool to hear multiple parts together
Lullaby has got to be my favorite
you rock
Very well played 👏🏻
Thank you
Great job!
Thank you
OMG !!!! Amazing find / suggestion. I love it. And on top of it, All I Want ! That would be great if you could do a full video on how you play the rest of it :)
That’s a good idea. I enjoyed playing that one so it would be good to explore the song further
@@bloxsy_ Looking forward to it :)
Shake Dog Shake has one of Robert Smith's best guitar arrangements
Two of my personal favourite Cure riffs are Wendy Time and Hot Hot Hot
I like this riff.
All I want riff is one of the best !
❤
Fantastic!😊🤝🤝🤝🤝👏👏
Joli travail !!!bravo.
Exquisite taste my friend
Thank you!
Amazing!!!
Thanks!
Isn't the last chord in Three Imaginary Boys just a normal Eb aug? Pretty sure that's what R.Smith plays in the live versions. Love your videos btw.
Hmm I don't know, it looked to me from the live versions like he was sliding the G chord up to the B playing some of the open strings. I could be wrong, it's hard to tell from the live videos as they're so dark.
👌
Great video and incredible riffs. Also, what's your guitar model? Thanks!
Thanks! It’s a Telecaster and Vintage V65
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks!
best cure song is dark entries. the best song on The Black Parade.
Note: trying this again because last time this joke got a bunch of likes on the punk nirvana riffs video
Thats a nice Vintage
10 Slowdive Songs !
очень люблю The Cure!!!☺️
Lol Robert smith is definitely the indie version of Dave Mustaine cracking out insane riffs for their respective genres and firing everyone else in the band 🤣
❤🔥
Can u make a top video riffs of:
-The Strokes
-Pearl Jam
-The Libertines
-Arctic Monkeys
-T Rex
-Interpol
@luke5100 are you his mommy?
Actually done a few of those already: Pearl Jam, Arctic Monkeys and T.Rex are on the channel. Was thinking of doing a Libertines one though and Strokes would be a good one too.
🙏❤
отлично!!!👍👍👍
Luv ya!
I'd say you were J mascis; if J mascis could ever be bothered. Which he wouldn't. ...Ever.
But still luv ya Bloxsy.
I’d love to know how/ what the chord shape is for all I want I love that song
dang, you had 10 mudhoney riffs, is it worth waiting for green river riffs? (even tho their discography ain't that big)
Ah yes Green River, need to do one of those.
Was hoping for 1015 on a Saturday night....take me back to when I was 13 and a girlfriends brother gave me a mixed tape that had the cure and violent femmes on the other side... P90s rule
But nice tele
3:56 I'm gonna get booed so much for this, but "Prayers for Rain" is the only song I liked on Disintegration. I like most of the Cure's other songs, but something about this album just bores the shit out of me. I would like "Lullaby" a little better if it wasn't the only other Cure song that gets regular play on the radio.
You should check out the live version of the title track (Disintegration) from the Wembley show they played in '89. It has so much more energy than the album version and Porl Thompson's syncopated rhythm guitar adds so much to the track. Robert's vocals are incredible especially as the song hits its emotional peak, he puts his whole soul into it.
The cure é beleza pura
We Need The Smiths Riffs!
You think we could get tabs for these please? Also All I want is my favorite guitar riff from the cure
The Clash Riffs
Hey! New bass??
I've had it a few months but put a different scratch plate on.
Whay kind of guitat do you use?
It’s a Fender Telecaster and Vintage V65
Do you think Subway Song influenced Seven Nation Army?
How you get this tone
