I say this as someone who is absolutely a bigger Batman fan than a Spider-Man fan: This is what makes Spider-Man the greatest superhero of all time. It's more than just catching people falling from exploding buildings and socking super villains in the face. It's being there for them in these human moments. Caring about them and connecting with them. He's a man trying to do the right thing, no matter how small. That's what a hero should be.
I think it’s why a lot superhero media these days miss the mark. They think we’re in it for the power fantasy, but superheroes at their peak is still about humanism.

Batman not killing people is a core tenet of who he is, not something that he grows out of as he get old. Zach Snyder version of superhero is what a 13 years old think is edgy.
Batman will always be my favorite, but Spiderman is always the best. I've been in a dark place lately. Sometimes, I read Batman, just as a way to vent those dark feeling and emotions. Try and see how I can use them in a positive light. But other times, I read Spiderman, and it always reminds me what it means to be a good person, and how important it is to see the best in everyone.
This was literally the last thing I experienced in this game to get 100% completion. My thought process was "Howard! He's cool! That'll be a nice wholesome way to cap off this game!" Damn.
*What makes this death so hard is that Howard had been fighting for a long time, despite that, he continued to find a way to keep going... And he died satisfied. I remember in the first game how hard it was to catch those birds and the genuine joy i felt after bringing them to Howard. I've been fighting long battle with depression, and some hiw i keep winning no matter how hard it was. Thank Jesus for that. I've been so proud of myself and how ive been handling everything. Thats what makes me tear up, because i can relate to Howard. Keep fighting the good fight guys!! You got this!!💪❤*

Yep, this and Miles' mission where he finds the grandpa in the park are the two FNSM missions that stick out to me above all the rest. I really enjoyed sitting there and listening to him share stories about his passed wife while also feeling for him knowing it hurt at the same time.
"Not many folks have been kind to me in my life." And the sudden silence afterwards is what got me emotional for Howard from knowing that he passed. From meeting him as Spiderman in 2017 up until now I couldn't help but to pause the game for a moment and shed a few tears for him
The way my jaw dropped when I first played this mission. This was so left field and definitely left an impact. For as simple as it was, this is one of the best side missions I’ve ever done because of its own side story and the personal investment over the history of this specific Spider-Man.
This might be obvious to some, but Howard is actually voiced by Dave Fennoy, the very same guy behind Lee Everret from Telltales The Walking Dead, I think that plays a large role in why I like Howard so much.
You can hear the sadness in Pete's voice when he says "the flock is free". To all the PS5 owners playing this game I'm sure this is hitting in the feels.
I genuinely cried watching this. Howard was one of my favorite characters from the last game. Didn’t think this would be the last time we’d see him😣. But this is also what I love about Spider-Man. Not the giant battles with villains or team ups with other heroes. Just a guy doing what he can to help everyone. A friendly neighborhood Spider-Man
Legit cried my eyes out. I was expecting another "help me catch mah birds spiderman!" I groaned to myself when I realized it was a Howard mission but the instant Pete sat down next to him and was just chilling with him I knew what was coming. Seriously cried more when Howard was gone than the end of the game.
Honestly made me tear up, I liked Howard, and as soon as that song played (which was a great song) I knew he was about to die, still didn't make it any easier when I returned to the dock, only to find that he had indeed passed away, just... damn.
what really hit me, was when he didnt respond to spider-man, i knew his life had come to an end, its sad, but howard will always be the best civillain we'll ever meet
The song "Seabird " and i share a very strong emotional connection. I can't help but feel recognized by the lyrics and music. You can't imagine how much my heart swelled up when it started playing while Spiderman glided and swung through the air, followed by the flock of birds we've chased. I think Spiderman is an inherent force of good and human spirit. More than an action hero, to me, he's the hero of the people. Always willing to empathize with someone and help in small but human ways. I truly can't express how much joy this segment has brought to my entire life.
It’s sad but I’m glad for Howard. He gets to reunite with his wife. As a man that lost my wife to cancer when our only son was 9 months old, this hit hard.

These games get a lot right, and have a lot of love with all the suits, references, photo mode, but stuff like this is why these are truly inspiring and emotional masterpieces

I was expecting some fun pigeon chasing, but instead I lead some pigeons to a new hope listening to seabird in the background. I knew something was off and it still surprised me. I teared... No cried over this. It hurt. Had to pause for a few minutes to process that. Gonna be weird seeing another game without him. Enjoy your adventure with your wife, Howard.
In the 3rd game there better be some sort of memorial for Howard that you can visit, like for Jeff and May. I know Howard wasnt as close to Peter as May or even Jeff for Miles, but it would still be nice
It was predictable but in the best way so beautiful. I played this one with Miles, after he saves the Music Exhibit, you unlock a very snazzy Suit Jazz outfit. One of the most memorable side ventures in all these Spidey games for me.

not tragic but rather bittersweet since he's finally going to see his wife in the afterlife after 20 years but i gotta be honest, this side mission really broke me down to tears and it was hard to hold it back.
I have always loved Howard. He was so cool even in homelessness and poverty. He found purpose in doing the little things one day at a time. And he had a strong sense of loyalty for his wife and his birds, which showed loyalty to him and the Spider-Men in return. He was everything a human being should be. Needs to be, even. I will always miss him. 😢😭❤
This was the last FNSM mission I did and it was a total accident. Howard was a simple character, but one you can understand. As much as I saw what was happening, it still makes for something I couldn’t really help but to tear up about.

There are so many people in the first game that none of us thought anything of, Howard, Hailey etc, But then, they die, and we feel it. Howard was set up as an old man who lost his wife ,fighting his own personal battle with cancer. And we have to return his pigeons to him. They were hard to get, and now we may never get that feeling again. R.I.P Howard, I hope you're in a better place.
This reminds me of the Post Civil War story where Peter meets the One Above All and he showed him all the people that would’ve died had Spider-Man not been there to save them

I used the Amazing Spider-man 1 suit in the first game when helping Howard, then this one I used the Amazing 2 suit for this mission so it was more emotional for my first time playing
Man I thought this would be a fun pigeon mission, Insomniac Games truly pulled my heartstrings, Howard’s emotional speech and then passing broke me big time, couldn’t stop my tears. 😭
It was such a gut punch at the end of this. I'd seen it coming, or rather I knew Howard had some bad news of some kind from his demeanour and the way he was talking, but I didn't expect him to have literally dropped dead after that last phone call. All his stuff was side-content, but he is the only non-story essential NPC who has left the most impact on the franchise. Hopefully whatever comes after Spider-Man 2, whether it be another spinoff or moving straight onto Spider-Man 3, Howard is remembered by Peter and Miles.
Damn… that hit harder than I thought it would. I really liked Howard and that he was the simple homeless man that Spidey visits. Then boom, life passes and he’s gone. :(
i do think the writing felt too cheesy and predictable to get emotional most of the time in this game, but this one was a nice lil farewell to a side character, also dope cruising to the song
As soon as I heard "I'm finally goin' on an adventure", I started to tear up. Almost couldn't finish this mission, because I couldn't see where I was flying. Beautifully done.

I don’t cry, at all, but when I was flying over the water across the buildings over the bridge and the sun shining on me with the birdies surrounding me and the song started playing I felt a release I haven’t felt in a long long time and the tears started running. Absolutely beautiful mission and i am so grateful this was the game I chose to get back into gaming. Don’t worry Howard, the flock is free 🕊️
Cried profoundly on this one, it just got me
There are so many people in the first game that none of us thought anything of, Howard, Hailey etc,
But then, they die, and we feel it. Howard was set up as an old man who lost his wife ,fighting his own personal battle with cancer. And we have to return his pigeons to him. They were hard to get, and now we may never get that feeling again.
R.I.P Howard, I hope you're in a better place.

I remember helping Howard. He was a nice character and it’s sad to see his death especially after hearing his story in the first game.
This reminds me of the Post Civil War story where Peter meets the One Above All and he showed him all the people that would’ve died had Spider-Man not been there to save them

This mission is the saddest😢😢 like this is so heartbreaking, that man loved life despite his living situation, people like him are an example no matter how rough and tough life gets, look at the beauty of it and love ur life, instead of hating ur life cuz ur going through rough times, don’t mean life isn’t still beautiful and something to love❤️🩹thank u Howard and insomniac games for teaching us this lovely lesson about life✨❤️🩹 Howard is a great character, he will be missed💪🏽😢 again, thank u insomniac for creating a character like Howard, I’ve learned alot from that character alone

When I got this mission, I thought to myself, “oh no, please don’t make chase pigeons around again.” Now I wish they just made me chase pigeons.
This mission hit hard. Almost makes you wanna collect the pigeons in the first game all over again.
Playing this really warmed my heart.
This is why Spider-Man is the best Super Hero of all time. He's not just protecting the Friendly Neighborhood, He's part of it. He's friends with everyone in it.

I used the Amazing Spider-man 1 suit in the first game when helping Howard, then this one I used the Amazing 2 suit for this mission so it was more emotional for my first time playing

Man I thought this would be a fun pigeon mission, Insomniac Games truly pulled my heartstrings, Howard’s emotional speech and then passing broke me big time, couldn’t stop my tears. 😭
It was such a gut punch at the end of this. I'd seen it coming, or rather I knew Howard had some bad news of some kind from his demeanour and the way he was talking, but I didn't expect him to have literally dropped dead after that last phone call. All his stuff was side-content, but he is the only non-story essential NPC who has left the most impact on the franchise. Hopefully whatever comes after Spider-Man 2, whether it be another spinoff or moving straight onto Spider-Man 3, Howard is remembered by Peter and Miles.
I think what really truly got me was the sad trimble in Peter's voice when he got back to see Howard. Only to find him gone.
Damn… that hit harder than I thought it would. I really liked Howard and that he was the simple homeless man that Spidey visits. Then boom, life passes and he’s gone. :(
