I hope there’s at least one preacher who has been groomed to follow in Bishop Spong’s footsteps. Even so he can never be replaced. It’s really gonna be a sad day when he dies. However his work will carry on.

Maybe this is the new way of everyone being on the same page a common sense belief in a progressive spiritual existence ....I found John has given me a hope for us all to get away from being to materialistic ...

I really respect Bishop Spong for trying to welcome GLBTQ people into the Church just as they are, and to fight for marriage equality, but I think he goes too far in some of his theology (though I will always respect his point of view, which comes from a place of deep integrity and honesty). But there are MORE than sufficient scriptural reasons to be welcoming, accepting, and totally embracing of gay people and their unions.

1:48 if the idea that we were born in sin isn’t true post Darwin, then it never was true ever… I don’t have a problem with people saying that Christian’s authority (the Bible) is completely absurd. I’m used to it at this point. I have a problem when people call themselves Christian and reject the authority of the Bible. Just say you reject the Bible and like some of Christ’s teachings. But don’t call yourself a Christian. Much less a bishop 🤣
